The Sims Wiki has created a '''{{WP|Discord (software)|Discord}}''' chat server that is open to the public. Like [[The Sims Wiki:Chat|Chat]] and [[The Sims Wiki:IRC Channel|IRC]], Discord allows people to communicate in real-time. Once a user account is set up, using Discord and joining the server is relatively easy.

See how much fun we have on the server by seeing our [[The Sims Wiki:Discord/quotes|quotes]] page!

;2. Voice chat

Don't flood or disrupt voice channels through the transmission of intentionally loud, repetitive, random, or irritating noise or audio. Don't play music in the channels like a music bot or use the voice channels as a music radio station. Use push-to-talk if your microphone keeps transmitting "dead air" or high levels of background noise. Keep in mind that you must be a "Trusted User" to speak in voice channels, although everyone can join and listen.

;3. Behavior
Line 66:

''#spammerland'' is a place for you to freely use bot commands, post random nonsense, roleplay, or goof around. However, you may not use ''#spammerland'' to attack or flame other users maliciously, upload NSFW content, or engage in hate speech.

Please note that you must have the "Trusted user" role in order to use ''#spammerland''; this is to prevent people from joining the server for the sole purpose of goofing off in there.

;9. Inactivity

;Muted
The muted user role is a special user role that is used by a select few bots on the server with moderator capabilities, although it can also be granted manually by any human operator or moderator. Users with the muted role have their ability to speak in text and voice channels revoked and are unable to add reactions to messages. Mutes may be issued in place of kicks or bans at a moderator's discretion to stop disruptive behavior.

;Nitro Booster
The Nitro Booster role is automatically granted to Discord Nitro users who have [https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028038352 boosted the server]. It does not grant any additional permissions, but as a thank you, boosters will be shown above all other users in the user list and be given a special role color. The role cannot be manually assigned or removed, and it is automatically removed if the user withdraws their boost or if their Nitro subscription expires.

Following the closure of the Music voice channel on October 21, 2018, this role is considered defunct.

==FAQs==
===Why can't I send any messages?===
To help protect against spam and server raids, everyone must have at least 1) a verified email address linked to their Discord account; and 2) be registered on Discord for at least five (5) minutes. In addition, make sure you're not trying to send messages to a channel you don't have the "Send Messages" permission for. On our server, you can send messages to almost any channel you can view. Try switching over to the ''#general_chat'' channel and see if you can send any messages there.

If you still cannot send any messages and you have followed all of the steps above, it is possible that a moderator or a bot has muted you, either temporarily or indefinitely. You may want to message a moderator for assistance.

===Why can't I attach any images/files?===
Initially, only users with the "Trusted User" role could upload and attach images and files. As of February 1, 2019, this restriction has been lifted. If you are still unable to attach images and files, make sure that you are not trying to upload files that are too big; Discord limits file sizes to 8 MB for free users, and 50 MB for Discord Nitro subscribers.

===Why can't I talk in any voice channels?===
Currently, only users with the "Trusted User" role can speak in voice channels, although everyone is free to join and listen to any public channels.

===What is this "Trusted User" role?===
It's a simple measure of controlling spam and server raids. Users with the "Trusted User" role can chat in voice channels and use emojis from other servers. It is ''not'' a "privilege" position and it doesn't grant you any authority over other users; it's just that we feel confident that you're not an obvious spammer or troll.

===How do I get the "Trusted User" role?===
Currently only server operators and moderators can grant this role. If you've been chatting on the server for some time, you may be granted the role. It should not actually take too much to get this role. If you feel that you have been chatting for some time and that a moderator may have missed you, simply type
!request-trusted
in the ''#role-request'' channel, and a moderator will review your request.

===What is this "Confirmed Wiki User" role?===
The confirmed wiki user role is our method of identifying who has an account on The Sims Wiki and has confirmed a link between that and their Discord account. This role does nothing on its own, and if you do not have an account on The Sims Wiki, you do not need to worry about it. If you ''do'' have an on-wiki account, see [[The Sims Wiki:Discord confirmation]] for how to get confirmed.

===I'm an on-wiki administrator. How do I get the Wiki Administrator role?===
[[Project:Administrators|Administrators and bureaucrats]] on The Sims Wiki need to attain the confirmed wiki user role before they can get the wiki administrator role. See [[The Sims Wiki:Discord confirmation]] for instructions on how to get confirmed.

===I'm an on-wiki content moderator. How do I get the Content Moderator role?===
See the question and answer above.

===How do I quickly contact server moderators and operators?===
The quickest way to do this is to mention ''@server moderators'', which will notify all online server moderators.

===What are the bots on the server? What can I do with them?===
The Sims Wiki, as of February 9, 2019, has '''11''' approved bots on the server. Most of them have public commands that anyone who is able to speak on the server are able to use. The bots are:
* '''blargbot''': Type
b!help
for a list of commands you can use
* '''Tatsumaki''': Type
t!help
for a list of commands you can use
* '''NotSoBot''': Type
.help
to get a link to the list of commands you can use
* '''PvPCraft''': Type
p!help
to get a link to the bot's documentation page
* '''Dyno''': Type
?help
to get a DM with a link to the bot's documentation page
* '''MEE6''': Type
!help
to get a list of commands you can use
* '''Miki''': Type
>help
to get a DM with a list of commands you can use
* '''Discord.RSS''': Used to power the recent changes feed in the ''#recent-changes'' channel. No usable public commands.
* '''Discord.Me''': Bot provided by the [https://discord.me/ Discord.me] server listing website. It automatically generates one-time use invite links for users who pass a reCAPTCHA when joining the server from Discord.me. Bot will always appear offline and works quietly in the background. No usable public commands.
*'''GamesROB''': Discord gaming bot. Only available in the ''#spammerland'' channel. Type
g*help
for a list of commands you can use.
*'''WikiaLinker''': A bot that converts inline wikitext links (e.g.
<nowiki>[[page name]]</nowiki>
and
<nowiki>{{template name}}</nowiki>
) into clickable links.

Please note that these bots are not maintained or owned by The Sims Wiki.

===What is the ''spammerland'' channel?===
The ''#spammerland'' channel is where the rules of the server are significantly laxer; users are free to use bot commands or goof off in the channel. They are still expected to abide by the rules surrounding civility and NSFW content. This channel is only open to Trusted users.

===I need help with Discord!===
If you need help with using Discord ''in general'', you can click the little question mark icon on the top-right corner of the app, or go [https://support.discordapp.com/hc/en-us here] to visit the Help Center. If you need help with using ''our server'' and your question hasn't been answered on this page, feel free to ask your question in the ''#help'' channel.
