Trait is a personality system in The Sims 4, similar to the trait system in The Sims 3. The personality system as a building block of Sims in The Sims 4 is a combination of trait from The Sims 3 and aspiration from The Sims 2.

Not much is known about the trait system in The Sims 4 yet. In The Sims 4: Create A Sim Official Gameplay trailer, it exhibits several examples of traits that are possessed by Bella Goth and Mortimer Goth, who are featured in the trailer. Some more traits are also mentioned in The Sims community blog and at the E3 gamplay presentation.[1] The traits that have been confirmed are as following:

  • Genius
  • Bookworm
  • Creative
  • Outgoing
  • Romantic
  • Active
  • Bro
  • Insane
  • Glutton
  • Hopeless Romantic
  • Materialistic
  • Clumsy
  • Ambitious
  • Perfectionist
  • Hot-Headed
  • Loves Outdoors
  • Insane
Unlockable traits
Based on the Create a Sim video, giving Sims an aspiration will unlock certain traits, which might not be available as part of regular traits. The shown traits are as following:
  • Gregarious
  • Fast Learner
  • Sociopath[2]
