So today, I was wandering around the open-ended landscape known as the internet and I learned that today, GAME (a UK games supplier) "can't afford" to stock upcoming EA titles such as Mass Effect 3 and The Sims 3: Showtime. The firm have had financial troubles over the past year and every publisher is keen to support them...except EA. (link)
Seems that EA want too much from the suppliers for their games. That theory makes sense, especially as EA have a habit of trying to build their own Monopoly and blaming others for it. Not to mention that PC gamers can only activate their new games via Origin, unless it's an expansion pack to The Sims 3, which existed on Steam before Origin came around.
Not only do they financially screw things up for retailers, they also make things worse for the gamer (in a sense):
- EA games are always more expensive than every publisher except Activision (only because of Call of Duty).
- EA often send out excessively large "patches" which take up a lot of hard drive space (I'm running low as it is) and for some people, limits everything else they can download thanks to their small data caps (thankfully I have no data cap).
- EA have terrible customer service. Instead of replacing a broken disc or something, I'd either have to pay for a new one or pay a fortune on my phone bill ranting at EA all day.
So it's official, EA only care about money. Not only do they use Katy Perry to endorse their attempts at turning games into social networks but they just want more and more. Maybe if EA used the money that they get on things that people actually want, people wouldn't hate them so much.
