Basketball in The Sims is played on the SuperDoop Basketball Hoop, which must be placed outside. If Unleashed is installed, Sim Central Park in Old Town has a couple of basketball goals.

While adult Sims don't gain much fun from it, and usually won't stay long, children stay around 35% longer.

Basketball returns in The Sims 2: FreeTime with the H-O-R-S-E of course Basket Ball Hoop.[n 1] It builds Body skill, increases Sims' fitness, and builds enthusiasm for the Sports hobby. One or two Sims can play, and will take turns making baskets from different angles, but cannot play an actual game.

Sims will change into athletic wear when playing. If a Sim autonomously decides to shoot hoops, he or she will continue walking to the court even if the player cancels the action.[n 2]

The object includes both the goal and the court, and it can be placed on flooring or terrain. There are two versions, one with a green court, and one in which the court is invisible. It must be placed outdoors because the top of the goal is higher than the top of a wall. However, it is possible to build an indoor basketball court by either placing the object first, then building a two-story (or higher) structure around it, or by using the moveobjects cheat.

The name is a reference to the variation of basketball known as H-O-R-S-E, and the saying that "a horse is a horse, of course".

Basketball returns in the store set known as Level Up, which contains a functioning basketball hoop. As in The Sims 2: FreeTime, Sims will change into athletic wear when playing. If a Sim autonomously decides to shoot hoops, he or she will continue walking to the court even if the player cancels the action. There are two types of actions; practice dunking and a challenge basketball contest.

The Sims 4: City Living

This section is in need of additional information. You can help The Sims Wiki by expanding this section.

Basketball hoops were reintroduced with the City Living expansion pack. Playing basketball provides a boost in fun, but reduces hygiene. It builds the athletic skill.

Sims can choose to practice shooting, practice dunks, practice dribbling, shootaround, or "Dream Big". Sims can also challenge another Sim to a dunk or shootout contest.

Winning a basketball game will give Sims the happy emotion. However, Sims will get angry if they lose a basketball game.

Notes

  1. This is the spelling used in the game files.
  2. This mod from Cyjon fixes this.
