The Sims 2: FreeTime

Competition is a group activity where Sims compete to win a contest. This is a new feature introduced in The Sims 2: FreeTime. There are 3 kinds of competitions, i.e. cooking contest, dance contest, and gaming contest.

Cooking contest

Sims competing in cooking contest

Sims can join cooking contests on community lot where a food judging table and a kitchen set are present. Only 4 Sims can enter the contest at once. Two premade lots that contain these objects are Copur Kitchen Cook-Off and Sue's (Secret) Kitchen hobby lot, though players can also build their own communal kitchen. Sims can make food for contest by clicking the refrigerator. The presence of kitchen is optional, because playable Sims still can compete if they bring a group meal food in the inventory from home.

To enter the contest, player must click the judging table and choose a serving platter from the inventory. Other 3 random participants (If the contest is run in the Hobby lot, the Cuisine hobby instructor will be most likely to participate) will begin to enter. They will place random food, even though they don't have any platter in their inventories.

Some elements that determine the winner include:

  • The quality of the food; whether burned or not
  • The required skill for the food
  • Cooking skill
  • Cuisine enthusiasm[citation needed]

The winner will get the cash prize 500 Simoleons and a blue ribbon in the inventory. It also gives positive memory to win the cooking contest. Note that even townies and other families can be rewarded the ribbon and memory. Sims with high enough cuisine enthusiasm will want to win the contest and fear to lose.

Dance contest

Sims can join dance contests on community lot where a DJ Booth from FreeTime is present. The only premade lot that contain this DJ Booth is My Muse: Music and Dance hobby lot. Oddly, Sims cannot use DJ Booth from Nightlife to enter the contest.

Sims can choose various dance types for the contest, including Solo, Smustle[TS2:NL], Hula dance[TS2:BV], and Slap dance[TS2:BV]. Nevertheless, whatever Sim chooses, other competitors will dance with their own style. For example, the player's Sim can be the only one to dance Hula, while the others are shy dancing, solo dancing, and smustling.

Four Sims can compete at once. The Music and Dance hobby instructor will be more likely to compete if the contest is held in the hobby lot. The higher the dance skill and the Music and Dance enthusiasm, the more likely a Sim will win. The winner will get a cash prize. Competing the contest will also build Body skill.

Gaming contest

Gaming contest doesn't require a specific object or place. It can be done in residential or community lot, but only contests in community lot will reward cash prize. Sims can enter the contest with multiple computers on the lot. They can choose any video games, providing the first one to enter own it.

This contest is the least advertising. Sims will usually start the contest, but no other participants will join afterwards.
