Irving is the second born child of Jabez and Lydia Cold in 1947. Irving found growing up with two other sisters to be quite fun, she would think of games for the three of them to play. Irving was the clever one in the family, but would not speak to the others as she would most likely be reading or playing.
Irving excelled in school, she was the top student in any class. One of her teachers, Teacher Xing, from Shang Simla, pointed out Irving was one of the best students she had ever taught (besides a young, Chinese, rich girl named Cho). Roz arrived at Irving's group of friends, and asked if she could be friends with them, one of the boys at the table, Robin Spritz asked Roz what the square root of 81 is, to which Roz replied she didn't know, they dropped her out the group before she could get in.
Despite her knowledge, Irving wasn't offered any immediate jobs, so she put away any hatred she had towards Roz and joined her in her hat shop. Irving would work the till. In 2016 Irving, Roz and Miliscent all moved together to their old house.
