So, some of you know that we have a weekly news blog that gets published on Thursday. This weekly news schedule went smoothly for over a year. Recently, we've been starting to miss these weekly deadlines. This is no one's fault in particular - everyone has busy lives and sometimes, even if you're available, you don't feel like putting the effort into writing a blog. But nevertheless it is happening, and I'd like to see if we can do something to remedy this.

I don't have any particular proposals, but I would be very interested in any ideas people may have. Also, I'd like to encourage anyone - administrator or not - to consider helping us write the weekly news. With some exceptions, the news tends to be written by either Lost Labyrinth or myself; having one or two more users to write it would take a lot of pressure off of the two of us and would ensure that we don't miss weeks.

Ultimately, I think the weekly news blog is a good idea and we should try to keep it going strong. - LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 20:06, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

I'll admit, I rushed out a late news blog today primarily for the sake of having one. Writing a news blog is not an easy task, even if one was to put minimal effort into it, and more users to assist writing would certainly ease the recent lull. Maybe we can start a recruitment drive to get more users onto the news team or something. I don't know how we should go about this nor should we force it on anybody but that's all I got. So right now, my only contribution to this forum is basically me begging for somebody, admin or not, to join up and write news blogs. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 20:14, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

@K6ka: True, but that doesn't change the fact that we missed last week, and two weeks each in May, April, and March. Bear in mind that for the entire calendar year 2013, we never missed a week and we were late only one time.

General comment: Would it be easier if the blog were published on a different day of the week? -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 20:16, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

Maybe a Saturday or a Sunday would be better for the majority of those who would be writing news blogs, though I can't speak for everybody (and I myself am barely around during weekends but if we did make such a change then I'll find a way to work around it). I don't know if it will make much of a difference but given the RL obligations that some may face, it's a thought. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 20:20, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
(edit conflict)@LiR: I think that's a bit too disorganized. It would be strange if we wrote the weekly news on Monday, Tuesday the next week, Wednesday the next, and so on.
I do have thoughts of having a "sign up sheet" in which users can pick which date they would like to write the weekly news on. I think this is a bit better than asking on IRC "Who will do this?" --k6ka (talk | contribs) 20:22, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
I meant, would it help if we picked a different day to publish from now on? Like, instead of shooting for a Thursday publish date, we try to publish on Saturday every week, or Monday every week? -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 20:30, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
Saturday or Sunday would work. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 20:31, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── A Sunday would be ideal; that seems to be the best day for things to come together. Ѧüя◎ґ (talk) 21:29, June 27, 2014 (UTC)

Sunday seems to be our best bet. As for how to get the community involved, I quite like the sound of k6ka's idea of a sign up sheet. There should be a way to keep it together. And if there was to be sign up sheet, how would it work? Would the community decide or should it be a first come first serve basis? Beds (talk - blog) 22:28, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
First come first serve was my idea. The person who signs up for the selected edition must write it (they can develop a draft in their userspace if they want to), though if they are sick or if something unexpected happens to them then either someone else needs to quickly write it (if they had a userpage draft it wouldn't be too difficult) or just let it go. --k6ka (talk | contribs) 00:30, June 28, 2014 (UTC)

1 month later[edit source]

I like your idea, k6ka. Ѧüя◎ґ (talk) 19:15, July 20, 2014 (UTC)

I too like k6ka's idea. I personally think his idea seems to be our best bet. Beds (talk - blog) 18:26, July 21, 2014 (UTC)

Conclusion[edit source]

News will indefinitely be moved to Sunday. The writing of the weekly newspaper will come on a "first come first serve" basis: meaning users will sign up to write for the next week's news blog. Ѧüя◎ґ (talk) 10:30, August 2, 2014 (UTC)
