Hi, I'm not sure if this kind of question has been addressed before but I haven't been able to find an answer.

I'm getting a new copy of and reinstalling The Sims 2 (and, for what it's worth, the University EP) in a few days, and I have my Neighborhoods folder backed up. I would like to restore a single Pleasantview family I have, consisting of a mother and her child. I was wondering if it was safe to just drag those two Sims' files (the ones that are in the Characters folder) into the new Neighborhoods folder and run the game, find them wherever, and play them. I don't want to go through remaking them and would like to essentially start the game over again as if I'd just created the family.

But hey, if I have to replace the whole Pleasantview folder I will. Thanks for any help. Werockatmidnight (talk) 03:15, December 10, 2018 (UTC)

Has that Pleasantview family been played already? This could lead to corruption if the previous family has memories and relationships that did not occur in the new neighborhood. Honestly the safest option would be to replace the entire Pleasantview folder. Ѧüя◎ґ (talk) 05:30, December 10, 2018 (UTC)
Yes, they have been played. Sorry, I didn't realize that memories transfer over in this kind of situation. Thanks; I'll replace the whole folder. Werockatmidnight (talk) 22:00, December 10, 2018 (UTC)
Yes, you should definitely refrain from selectively copying over files from one neighborhood folder to another, since the game stores information on different Sims and lots in different locations. For example, Sims have both a character file and an entry in the neighborhood data file; if you delete one or the other improperly, you can cause problems with the neighborhood. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 01:23, December 11, 2018 (UTC)

Hey, me again. I restored the neighborhood and ran the basegame with no problems. However, I installed University (I backed up all my basegame files like it said to) but it won't run. The big box with the logo pops up and the disc in my CD-ROM spins but after a while everything stops and the game fails to open. I'm running Windows 10 and this is the only EP I have. Am I stuck with the basegame? Werockatmidnight (talk) 03:14, December 14, 2018 (UTC)

Did you try running the installer in compatibility mode? —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 03:17, December 14, 2018 (UTC)
Just tried it. Doesn't seem to be working (unless I'm an idiot and did it wrong...am I supposed to run the AutoRun file in compatibility mode or one of the other files?). Werockatmidnight (talk) 01:24, December 15, 2018 (UTC)
It's been a long while since I dealt with installation issues for TS2, but I think yes, you run the AutoRun.exe file in compatibility mode, since that's the file you open to install the expansion.
I was about to comment that Windows 10 doesn't allow SecuROM to be installed, but then I remembered that SecuROM only became a thing with Bon Voyage and later, and can probably be bypassed using No CD Cracks. University doesn't have SecuROM so unless I'm mistaken it should be able to work on Windows 10. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:00, December 15, 2018 (UTC)
http://modthesims.info/t/500523 try this (I know it's for 8, but should work for 10 as well)DrakonoSkerdikas (talk) 22:43, February 18, 2019 (UTC)
