Re: Advice Needed

I see that you have already gotten a reply from K6ka, so I guess the only thing I can say more is to be bold in making edits and ask if there is anything that you don't know how to do. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 20:42, July 9, 2015 (UTC)

- Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I'll definitely be more bold, and will ask if I need help. I've already signed up for the adoption system, so I'll hopefully get help that way. Thank you again so much. S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 20:52, July 9, 2015 (UTC)

Adoption

I have decided that I will go ahead and adopt you, so that you can ask me questions. Although from what I have seen, it doesn't look like you need much help. If you would like to accept me adopting you, you can use this template on your user page: {{User adopted|<Icemandeaf>}} -- Icemandeaf (talk) 01:34, July 12, 2015 (UTC)

True, templates can be a little tricky at times (like I noticed you quickly found out just now with the {{User adopted}} template. I have found that using preview helps catch many mistakes (although not all). -- Icemandeaf (talk) 16:41, July 12, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Question

That is fine. I did it all the time when I was first learning things myself. If you are making it your own page with your own information, but getting a template from someone else's page, then you aren't in any trouble. The only time you would be in trouble would be if you were to impersonate someone else.

As far as using American English rather than British English, the Wiki generally has a policy of using American English just because that is where the game comes from. So if you were to change neighbourhood to neighborhood, that would be perfectly acceptable.

BTW, I noticed that you tried to do an indentation for a talk page. This is actually common practice, but I will teach you how it is usually done. It is a lot easier. ;-) If you are using the source view, a colon (:) at the beginning of the line is one indentation. Having multiple colons at the beginning of the line (i.e. ::) will do multiple indentations. If you are in the visual view, you just have to using the "increase indent" button for the same effect. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 17:54, July 14, 2015 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Just wanted to point out that, while the wiki generally uses U.S. English, the top priority is making sure the article uses a consistent style throughout. So if the article was initially written in British English, it's best not to suddenly add a paragraph that uses U.S. English. The Manual of Style says: though changes to important articles to adapt them to house style are occasionally useful, please don't make a point of changing an article to your preferred style, if this helps. --I am k6ka Talk to me! Thank you both so much. That really clarifies things. I'm really happy that I'm not in trouble. I would never impersonate anyone, but just needed help with the templates. I've told you those were hard for me. :) Thanks for helping me with the indention problem Icemandeaf. I wasn't sure how to do it. Now I know how. Links

When making a link to another page within the Wiki in the main namespace, you don't need to start with "sims:" as it will be automatically assumed that is where you want it to go. I have changed the last two pages that you did to that effect, but I thought you might like to know. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 18:46, July 14, 2015 (UTC)

You didn't exactly mess up because it still works. Just letting you know about another way that is usually done. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 18:54, July 14, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Thank you

Any time! As always, you can ask me if you can't figure something out. I will help you out. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 21:54, July 16, 2015 (UTC)

RE: Community Discussions

Hi. I'm not Icemandeaf, but I really wanted to answer your question: [can I] participate in the Community Discussions or do I have to wait for a certain period of time?

The answer is: YES! You can participate in the community discussions at any time! Anyone can participate in these discussions, even when not logged in! In fact we want everyone to participate in these discussions and there is no policy restricting users from participating in it. Being bold is a big step to improving this wiki and while it is daunting, it must be done. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 19:16, July 18, 2015 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your answer K6ka!! That is the answer I so wanted to hear. I'm going to put in my vote for the community discussions right now. Thank you SO much again. S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 19:19, July 18, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Community Discussions

By all means, you can participate in the discussions. In fact, I am glad to see that you have already. There is no "waiting period" for when someone can participate in community discussions. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 14:44, July 19, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Question About Reverted Edits

Unless you had someone leave you a message on your talk page about those edits, I doubt they were any serious problems. People are humans and make mistakes. It happens to the best of us. I have had my own edits reverted at times from time to time as well. The important thing is to learn from the mistake you made and try to be better next time. That's the path to becoming a good editor. And by the way, I did have a good weekend which was pretty full. That is why I wasn't around much, but I'm back now. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 16:51, July 20, 2015 (UTC)

I'll add on to this. Sometimes it's not even a mistake, it's just a difference of opinion between one editor and another editor. If your edit is reverted (and isn't rolled back), then the editor that reverted it should give a reason why in their edit summary, which is viewable in the page's history. If you disagree with their reversion, you should take it up with them on their user talk page, or you can start a discussion on the article talk page. But as Icemandeaf said, if they didn't warn you, then you're not going to be in trouble. On top of that, it's clear that you're acting in good faith, so even if you made a mistake it would be treated as a mistake, not a malicious act. - LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 17:19, July 20, 2015 (UTC)
Thank you both so much. I did not receive any messages on my wall regarding the edits, but there was an edit summary detailing where the mistake was. I made a mistake in linking on two articles. I'm so relieved that I'm not going to be in trouble. I was worried about that all morning. I am trying, so I'm glad that if I mistake, I won't be in huge trouble. Thank you both again. I really appreciate the help and advice. S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 17:26, July 20, 2015 (UTC)
