Wedding arches are objects Sims get married under in The Sims 2, The Sims 3: Generations, and The Sims 4.

The Sims 2

In The Sims 2, the wedding arch is used by selecting a member of the engaged couple, clicking on the the arch, and selecting "Get Married" or "Join Union". While Sims can get married or enter a Joined Union with or without using the arch, using the arch allows a player to add a bit of formality, as Sims who get married or joined under the arch will change into their formal clothes.

If the relationship between the two Sims is too low, one may call off the wedding. While this can happen regardless of whether the arch is used, it's more dramatic if the arch is involved.

If the special event camera is enabled, using the wedding arch to marry two Sims will begin a cinematic. If successful, the Sims will exchange vows and rings, flower petals will fall, and the Sims will kiss. If unsuccessful, the Sim who did not initiate the interaction will watch the other Sim begin to put on the ring, then after a few tense moments jerk back his or her hand and run away from the wedding arch. The camera focuses on the rejected Sim as the sounds of footsteps running, a car door slamming, and tires screeching are audible. (An unsuccessful marriage will automatically ruin a wedding party.) After being left at the altar, the proposer and proposed will lose their crush, fall out of love, lose each other as friends and become enemies.

The Sims 2: Celebration Stuff added a second arch to the game, which functions similarly to the base game arch.

Trellisor Wedding Arch

The photographer's got whooping cough, the flowers were delivered to a funeral by mistake, and your Sims' dream wedding just headed south along with the good weather? At least they can rely on the Trellisor Brand Wedding Arch! Sturdily constructed and eminently stylish, it's one thing that'll never let them down.

Notes
  • If Bon Voyage or FreeTime is installed, but Apartment Life or Mansion & Garden Stuff is not, Sims cannot get married on a community lot under this arch. This mod corrects this behavior.

The Sims 3

In The Sims 3, the wedding arch is introduced in the Generations expansion pack. A wedding cake is also available to complement the Sims marriage.

The arch resembles the base game wedding arch in The Sims 2. The couple will have the option to immediately "Get Married" by clicking on the arch, and people will gather around autonomously to watch them exchange rings. Like The Sims 2, Sims get married in their formal outfits.

The Sims 4

In The Sims 4, Sims can get married under wedding arches, similar to previous games. Other Sims on the lot will gather around autonomously to watch the wedding.

Single Sims have the option to "Fantasize About Weddings" while standing under a wedding arch, which will grant a flirty moodlet, and couples who are already married can renew their vows. There is also the option to plan a wedding event directly from an arch, without having to go through the menus on a Sim's phone first.

Sims marry in whatever outfits they have on, so it's important to plan their wedding attire beforehand. Wedding events automatically change brides into wedding dresses and grooms into tuxedos, but the player is free to change them into other outfits before the ceremony starts.
