Daniel Pleasant is a pre-made Sim who has appeared in the first three PC installations of The Sims, as well as some of the console versions. He appears as a child in the base game of the original The Sims, living with his parents, Jeff and Diane, and younger sister Jennifer in Neighborhood 1, a role he reprised in the console version. In The Sims 2 base game, which is set twenty-five years later, he is an adult living in Pleasantview with his wife, Mary-Sue, and twin teenage daughters Angela and Lilith.
The Sims 3 was the first PC base game in the series not to include Daniel as a pre-made character, justified by the fact that its story takes the form of a prequel set around fifty years before The Sims 2 and twenty-five years before The Sims, which would either set the initial action recently before Daniel's birth, or before his family moved to Pleasantview. However, several of the worlds later made available from The Sims 3 Store seem to take place outside of the game's main continuity, and Daniel and his wife Mary-Sue were featured as young adults on an extended honeymoon in Sunlit Tides. Since their daughters have not yet been conceived, it can be estimated that this version of Daniel is intended to be around fifteen years younger than the one found in The Sims 2.
Life leading up to The Sims (Console)
Daniel appears in The Sims (console) along with his family in SimValley. He wears the same thing he does in The Sims and has a 20+ relationship with his whole family.
Life leading up to The Sims
He appeared in The Sims as a child, along with his parents (who are deceased in The Sims 2) and sister Jennifer Pleasant.
While all children in The Sims are the same age, The Sims 2 establishes that he is much older than Jennifer. He would probably have been a teen at the time of The Sims, except that The Sims doesn't have a teen life stage.
While he has red hair in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, he has brown hair in both the PC/Mac and console versions of The Sims. This could imply that his hair was dyed brown in The Sims. However, it could also be a continuity error by the developers of The Sims 2.
Life leading up to The Sims 3
Daniel and his wife, Mary-Sue make a comeback as a newlywed couple enjoying their honeymoon on Sunlit Tides. Daniel has two points in the Athletic, four in Charisma and one in Cooking. He also has the Flirty and Commitment issues traits, possibly setting him up for cheating on his wife.
Life leading up to The Sims 2
Daniel works in the Athletic career track as an Assistant Coach. Unknown to Mary-Sue, he is having an affair with the family's maid, Kaylynn Langerak. He's also enemies with Angela's boyfriend, Dustin Broke and dislikes her dating him. He has not met Lilith's boyfriend, Dirk Dreamer - why this is so is up to the imaginations of individual players. Daniel has red hair and a red beard. He wears a tan jacket over a white mock-neck shirt, blue jeans and brown dress shoes. When first played, he is 5 days away from becoming an elder. He is close to becoming fat.
Daniel's relationship with his wife is very poor, and at the start of the game they are not even best friends, much less in love with each other. Despite this, Daniel and Mary-Sue usually end up autonomously performing at least one romantic action immediately after the family is first played, thus making them both become best friends and fall in love at the same time. One of the neighborhood story-telling pictures shows Mary-Sue rejecting Daniel's WooHoo for work, and one of the family's story-telling photos shows Daniel and Mary-Sue arguing. Mary-Sue's apparent obsession with her job may have caused their relationship to suffer, and may have been the source for Angela and Lilith's own fighting - yet this too, can be left up to the imagination of the player.
His father Jeff died without achieving his dream to be the first man to set foot on Mars, and Daniel feels guilty for it. (When The Sims was released, Maxis was developing a game called SimMars, but it was canceled due to the overwhelming response to The Sims. It's possible, though highly speculative, that Daniel's guilt about Jeff not getting to Mars is a nod to that.)
For some reason, Daniel's personality has changed in The Sims 2. In The Sims, his zodiac sign was Sagittarius but now he's a Virgo. Also, according to his personality in The Sims 2, he should be Cancer. As a Romance Sim, Daniel has negative memories of engagement and marriage, but strangely, the memory of going steady with Mary-Sue is positive.
Strangely, Daniel's memories state that he met Mary-Sue before Jennifer's birth, even though at the time of The Sims, Jennifer was a young child and Daniel didn't know anybody named Mary-Sue. This could simply be an error on the developers part. Because he had reached level 5 of the Athletic career, Daniel has the Athletic career reward available for him to purchase.
Daniel has 9 body points, while Athletic jobs from Superstar (level 7) up require 10 body points. This may have been an oversight by the game developers. (One outcome of the Superstar chance card is a promotion to Assistant Coach, but there is no Athletic track card that can promote a Sim to Superstar.)
