Display racks are a type of object found on community lots that stock items for sale. They may stock and sell a variety of goods, including groceries, souvenirs, clothing, and magazines, among others. Display racks are combined with cash registers to make shops that Sims can make purchases from.

Display racks were first introduced in The Sims: Hot Date, and each successive expansion after introduced a new display rack selling different goods. The Sims 2: Open for Business introduced empty display racks that could be used in owned businesses to sell a large variety of different objects. Players can choose which item to purchase by clicking on the display rack, after which the selected Sim will attain the object and then pay for it at the nearest cash register. Display racks will never run out of stock on unowned lots, but an employee will eventually need to restock display racks in an owned business.

Sims may autonomously browse display racks without buying anything, although the player does not have an option to direct Sims to do this. Townies and Sims from other households may browse display racks but will not buy anything from them, unless they are visiting an owned business.
