Gothel Midnight is a mermaid whose heart is broken by Prince Charming.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Weeks 01-09[edit | edit source]

Although she leaves her underwater kingdom and risks everything to assume human legs to be with Prince, Gothel finds herself abandoned by him when he falls in love with several other women. Heartbroken and feeling betrayed, given her sacrifices for him, Gothel's sadness eventually festers into hatred. Gothel later meets Zurel, another woman seduced by Prince and then forsaken, even though Zurel became pregnant. Together, Gothel and Zurel conspire to kill Prince, and do so by fooling him into eating mermadic kelp. This turns him into a mermaid, although he rapidly dehydrates to death. His wife, Ella, suspects Gothel and Zurel.

Weeks 10-13[edit | edit source]

An epidemic of vampirism hits Gothel and Zurel's household, and Zurel is turned into a vampire. Zurel bites Gothel, who starts to become a vampire, although Gothel manages to cure herself by acquiring an elixir from Poppy.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Gothel loosely alludes to the witch, Dame Gothel, from the fairytale Rapunzel.
  • Additionally, she alludes to the mermaid from the fairytale The Little Mermaid.
  • Carabosse warned Ella that "The magic ends when midnight srikes". Ella took this to mean that the spell on her ended at midnight, but Carabosse was using her ability of foresight to predict that "the magic" (Ella's family with Prince) would be torn apart when "(Gothel) Midnight strikes".
