Evidently because Agnes is not Mrs. Crumplebottom. That kinda sticks out like a sore thumb don't you think.

Mrs. Crumplebottom is an elderly NPC sim-woman featured in The Sims: Hot Date and The Sims 2: Nightlife. She is frequently in Downtown lots in both games, and is usually considered an obstacle in the lives of Sims.

The Mrs. Crumplebottom from The Sims: Hot Date and The Sims 2: Nightlife are not actually the same Sim but distant relations.[1] It is implied that Agnes Crumplebottom was Mrs. Crumplebottom from The Sims: Hot Date.

Personality

Mrs. Crumplebottom is a very old-fashioned, stern, and strict woman who appears to abide by a moral code from the Victorian Era. She detests when two Sims do any romantic interactions in public. When Mrs. Crumplebottom sees any of these actions taking place on a community lot, she will promptly scold the Sims, smack them, or beat them with her purse. If a Sim innocently wanders out in underwear or bathing suit, Mrs. Crumplebottom will lecture him/her until he/she changes back into his/her everyday clothes.

Dear old Mrs. Crumplebottom is also impossible to change. If you welcome her into your home through use of cheats, namely Boolprop testingcheatsenabled, and try to use the Sim Modder, her behavior will not change in the least. Even with full niceness, she will still reprimand you for showing affection, showing too much skin, or slacking off. It's really a waste of time to even try to fix her.

If you have The Sims 2: Seasons Expansion Pack, if a Sim wishes for Romance into a wishing well, There is a 50% chance that Mrs. Crumplebottom will crawl out of the well and hit the Sim with her purse!

Appearance

Mrs. Crumplebottom almost always wears her signature outfit. This includes a long, straight, dress with a button-up overcoat, along with tight shoes, pearls, a pillbox-hat with a small daisy pinned on, a tight bun, and her large, dark purse. Her dress is a tan/cream color. Her hair is white/gray and is tied in a bun. In the original The Sims, she usually takes out an opera glasses from her purse to take a look at something. Her eyebrows always looked like she was angry all the time.

Distractions

The Sims

She does everything a normal Sim does. She plays chess, she goes to the toilet, she eats, she browses displays and a lot other stuff. Sometimes, if you/any Sim do a romantic interaction, she will stop whatever she is doing to nag you and smack you.

The Sims 2

She loves bowling more then she hates love, so you are safe in bowling alleys. She will play a game and never stop.

She also loves to drink; if you're working at a bar, she would be your best customer.

If you have the Bon Voyage expansion pack installed in the game, a new character is introduced. The Unsavory Charlatan, a venturing scam artist, just seems to be attracted to sweet 'ol Mrs. Crumplebottom and if you are lucky enough to have both of these characters in the same lot he will try to have his way with her and serenade the "sweet" old lady. Sometimes it will work or sometimes he'll end up being beat by one of Mrs. Crumplebottom's famous purse-whippings. Now, how does this help you? It might give you some time to finish up in the lot and head home to safety.

Also, if you use boolprop to load her into a lot, she'll never leave. Mrs. Crumplebottom is possibly nothing but a decorative object, and the only way by deleting her is by force erroring her or deleting her with moveobjects. You can use one of the distractions to make sure she doesn't pester your Sim!

Personal Life

One question that is often wondered by inquisitive simmers is "If her name is Mrs. Crumplebottom, then who was her husband?" There are many rumors around the community. It is possible that she was married to Robert Crumplebottom, a famous puppeteer and philanthropist in SimNation. During his Winter Charity Event, a chandelier dropped full two stories and ending his short, yet inspiring life. His demise seems to made Mrs. Crumplebottom very sad, and made her very, very cranky. She has a niece named Elmira Clamp.Which Mrs. Crumplebottom?[citation needed]

Agnes Crumplebottom in The Sims 3 is her distant relation. This 'Miss Crumplebottom' lost her husband, Erik Darling, on their honeymoon before she even got to change her last name. Agnes is the aunt of Mortimer Goth. Agnes Crumplebottom is the Hot Date Mrs. Crumplebottom but she is not the Nightlife Mrs Crumplebottom [1].

There is no substantial proof that Agnes Crumplebottom is Mrs. Crumplebottom. I'd say if Agnes is dead in the opening of the Sims 2 and Mrs. Crumplebottom is in Nightlife. Its pretty obvious don't you think? Read the Nightlife transcript its stated that Agnes is a distant relative to Mrs. Crumplebottom.

The fact is that Agnes Crumplebottom and Mrs. Crumplebottom are two completely seperate characters from the Crumplebottom Family. In The Sims Hot Date, Mrs. Crumplebottoms' full name is Mrs. Agatha Crumplebottom, which rules out Agnes Crumplebottom all together. Also, Agnes Crumplebottom is deceased in The Sims 2 opening, as Mrs. Crumplebottom reappears in The Sims 2 Nightlife. In The Sims 3, Agnes Crumplebottom hadn't even changed her last name to her husband's when an unfortunate accident on her honeymoon ended the marriage. Hence, this so called implication, of Agnes and Mrs. Crumplebottom being the same person, becomes faulty.

To prove this fact, please refer to the Nightlife transcripts. If you read the transcript carefully, the question is asked "How is Mrs. Crumplebottom going to work?" She's Mortimer's Aunt and he's nearly dead himself when the game starts." The author of this question is referring to Agnes Crumplebottom. Agnes Crumplebottom is the aunt of Mortimer Goth. There is no indication that the original Mrs. (Agatha) Crumplebottom is any relation to Mortimer Goth (refer to the family tree). Lyndsey from Maxis states "This is actually a distant relative of "the original" Mrs. Crumplebottom." meaning that Agnes Crumplebottom is a distant relation of the original Mrs. (Agatha) Crumplebottom.

Quotes

These are the quotes of Ms. Crumplebottom from Hot Date.

  • Disgusting! NEVER have I witnessed such a tasteless flouting of proper manners in all my days! As the young folks say, get a room!
  • How dare you! This is a public area! Have you no sense of decency? We have standards in this town you know!
