Shy is a social trait that appeared in The Sims 3: Late Night and The Sims 3 for Nintendo DS.

For the personality quality in The Sims and The Sims 2, see Personality.

The Sims 3: Late Night

The trait first appeared in The Sims 3: Late Night, and is similar to a removed trait called shy, which was merged with the Loner trait. Its existence was confirmed during a Grant Rodiek Twitter session regarding the new expansion pack[1].

This was the first edition of the trait.

  • They are uncomfortable around large crowds of people.
  • A Shy Sim has a harder time making new friends than others.
  • A Shy Sim will feel uncomfortable around a group of non-friend Sims.
  • A Shy Sim will feel comfortable around a group of friends.[1]
  • A Shy Sim won't skinny dip in hot tubs or pools

The Sims 3 (Nintendo DS)

The Shy trait re-appeared in The Sims 3 for Nintendo DS. It conflicts with the Outgoing trait.

Shy Sims do not appreciate the romantic advances of others and will be difficult to woo. It's not that they don't want to love, just that it's difficult for them.

This Shy trait is more similar to Unflirty from The Sims 3, rather than its counterpart, also called shy.
