The Social Bunny in The Sims 2

A Sim having a conversation with his Social Bunny

The Social Bunny is an NPC that is the sims' imaginary friend. He comes when Sims have a low social need. They come in three colors which are blue, yellow, and pink and only the lonely Sim can see them. Just having the Social Bunny around raises the social need, but the lonely Sim can interact with him anyway to raise it, ranging from friendly kisses to outright fighting. The Social Bunny leaves when the bar is back up to the halfway point.

If multiple Sims are in social failure, the other bunnies will be seen when a lonely Sim is active. However, they will be transparent, and cannot be interacted with. The bunnies may interact with each other, though. Generally, ones of a different color will be friendly with each other, with blue and pink ones going romantic. However, much different sparks fly when two bunnies of the same color meet, as they'll actually fight with each other. The bunny is like the Therapist in the way that he can only be seen by the active sim when the have low needs.

There has also been a bug where the social bunny can actually become a friend. (eg. He come to parties and he can visit and possible all the other things that normal friends can do)

The fact the Social Bunny is only seen by the active Sim is a reference to the films Harvey and Donnie Darko in which the main character can see a 6 foot tall rabbit who is invisible to everyone else.

The Social Bunny in The Sims 3

The great bunny dancing the night away

In The Sims 3 the social bunny does not appear when your sims have a low social need, instead he only appears in a cameo in a poster under decor. The description of the poster follows: "He strives for social acceptance, but his moves are so awkward he is doomed to eternal failure. In this way he represents the inner struggle for acceptance in all of us."

He can also be seen on the Kidz TV station on the television. He appears as a main character on the current program. He only appears as a cameo in The Sims 3 because TS3 is a prequel to The Sims (order following as this: 3, 1, 2) but there is no sign of him in TS1, then finally appears in The Sims 2.

The Social Bunny vs The Tragic Clown

When the Sims series started, the social bunny was not the first NPC to show up to depressed sim's houses to cheer them up, it was done by the Tragic Clown in the first game. The tragic clown came whenever a sim's mood was half-way low and if there was a painting of him hanging around somewhere, however the Social Bunny came when the Social need was empty only. One key difference between the two is their success in trying to make depressed sims feel better: The Tragic Clown always made matters worse while the Social Bunny managed to bring the low social up to 50% high. Another difference is how to get rid of them: the Social Bunny only comes, does his job right, then leaves, but the clown is harder to get rid of, to evicting the clown can be done by either:
A. Put the painting above a fireplace, have it catch fire (the clown will also go up in flames) and once he's gone, call the Fire Department to save the rest of the house.

B. Call the Clown Catchers to capture him (they will also take the painting afterwards).

C. Manage to birng your sim's mood up and maybe he might leave.
