The Broke Family resides in Pleasantview. It consists of Brandi Broke, widow of Skip Broke; Dustin Broke, a teen going steady with Angela Pleasant; and Beau Broke, a toddler who is the last born in the family before you play the game.

As the name suggests, they have a monetary situation, supposedly because Brandi has just lost her husband and source of income. Brandi is also the daughter of Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie, a married couple introduced in The Sims. When the game is first played, Brandi is pregnant with her last child from Skip.
