Fairy

A Fairy.

Fairies are a new playable life state that were introduced in The Sims 3: Supernatural. They first appeared in the official announcement trailer for the expansion.[1] Before they were officially announced, there was a patch (1.32) which accidentally had visual effects files from the Supernatural expansion pack. Some of the effects were that of fairy wings.[2]

Overview

Fairies are described as mischievous magical creatures who love playing tricks on Sims.

Appearance

The appearance of a fairy can be adjusted in several ways, like normal sims, making each fairy different. Fairies and other life states can wear fairy-like clothes and have flowers in their hair. There are eight different types of wings which can be any color you fancy.

Magical Powers

Fairies are able to use magic, which they get from fae. The more fairies harness their Powers of the Fae, the more they increase their magic abilities and unlock new abilities. Starting out, the fairy will have a very limited set of magical abilities, but as the fairy levels up, several new abilities will become available. The first new abilities will be the Aura of Creativity, the Tummy Twister prank, and the ability to trap objects. As the fairy progresses, new auras and pranks will become available and the fairy will be able to trap new objects. There will also be other bonuses, like being able to do Fairy Repairs which allow you to shrink down and repair broken objects. The more the fairy uses the magic, the more abilities become available, and the more the fairy will fly, rather than walking.

Although fairies increase in their power, it is not limitless and does come with a cost. Fairies have a magic meter that they must maintain in order to continuously use their abilities. Once depleted, it will take 6 hours to refill the meter completely. During these 6 hours the fairy will have a negative moodlet. When not completely empty, their power will slowly regenerate over time or they can instantly replenish their magic through the use of an alchemy elixir. Fairies can also regenerate their power at a faster rate by transforming into their true form and performing many of their unique interactions like riding the train set or using the fairy house. Like vampires, fairies will have an extended lifespan. They can shrink to their "pixie form" to perform tasks that they cannot do normally-sized, one of these being the "Fairy Repair" which allows them to repair objects faster. The pixie form is the same color as their wings when they are in their large form.

Fairies can give fairy dust to their friends which can be used to remove the zombie curse or give another sim the ability to float.

As mentioned above, the fairies can use auras to affect themselves and the Sims around them. To use an aura, click on the Sim and choose from the menu. There are several different auras, which have different effects. Some of these are:

  • Aura of Soothing: This calms the fairy and gives it a positive moodlet
  • Aura of Creativity: Makes doing creative things easier and levels them up faster
  • Aura of Body and Mind: This aura improves the rate at which Sims learn skills related to body or mind

Offspring

When a fairy sim and a sim of another life state try for baby, there is a 50/50 chance that the child will be a fairy. As a baby, the player can tell the color of the baby's wings by the color of the sparkles surrounding the baby. After the baby life stage, it is very apparent if the child is a fairy, as from the toddler life stage the sim will boast fairy wings. Toddler fairies also have several fairy stylised idle animations including floating and flapping wings.
