Bob Newbie stood at the railing of the Riverview ship, holding Betty's hand and pondering the small mound of land in the distance. The captain had told them that this would be a sea-only venture, without any stops on land, but here they were, cruising straight for an island. Thinking about the captain turned his mind to the government that was Sovereign Alexander I. It was puzzling. Why would someone who opressed the cities enough to put fifty-two teenagers on an island to fight for their lives turn around and give away a cruise vacation to so many?

Alexander Goth

There once was a land not ruled by the Watcher, not observed by the Watcher, not controlled by the Watcher: Simnation. Simnation was a pleasant country with only simple disputes. Until Alexander Goth came from his future to conquer the past.

Alexander Goth sought to ruin the childhood of his mother the way she ruined his by leaving with alien creatures. He took his electronic weapons and came to her quiet past, quickly taking over and calling himself "the Watcher" after a medieval god who saw all and controlled all. He made his kind, gentle mother suffer by punishing everyone. He would invite four teenagers from thirteen towns a luxury cruise. Many would not return, and their plight would be watched by all who were not on the ship be on the ship. Only the strong, the smart, the quick would survive.

Welcome to the Goth Battles.

Chapter 1: Old friendships

Alexander sat in his red velvet chair. The room was massive covered with bookshelfs, there was a fireplace at one end of the room and at the other was his oak desk. The fire crackled like normal, sometimes he could see Bella, his mother, in the fire. But he just believed it to be his mind playing tricks. The carpet was Persian and made of fine silks. There was a chandler on the ceiling. Everything was placed perfectly. On his desk he had picture of his wife and son and some paperwork.

Cassandra getting all the attention

Looking through the security camera monitors, all was peaceful. No rebellions and no trouble. Just the way he liked it. He looked at his desk: only paperwork. He tapped his finger frustratedly on the table. He had everything any sim could have, yet he wasn't satisfied. He had a wife, a heir and was ruler of the past. He kept hearing his mother voice echoing through his head and in the fire, was it right to take over the past, was it right to blame his mother for the disappearance. Yes it was, how could she leave him at his hour of need, she looked after Casssandra. Why not him. He sealed an oath that his wife would always be at her son's side and he made sure of that.

He heard footsteps coming and the door creaked open. A pale, fragile boy ermerged from outside the room.

"Father?" he asked.

Alexander II asking for a nanny

"Yes Alexander," Alexander the First replied.

"Can I have a friend?"

"Why do you need a friend, dear child, when you have everything a child could want?"

"Its just... father..."

"What, son?"

"I'm lonely, couldn't I just have a nanny?"

"I give you everything you want, yet you demand more!"

"Sorry father. You were right, you're always right."

"It's ok, Alexander, all of us make mistakes. I see you want a nanny; I will find one,"

"Thank you father, you are grateful and kind."

Alexander was pondering was he too harsh on the boy? He had a friend when he was young. She was always kind to him and always understood him as a child and his loss of his mother. They had dated each other as teenagers and even shared thir first kiss, but Mortimer was getting older and older by the day. One day was alive and the next he was gone. Alexander was so sad when Mortimer died and he asked her to a movie, she said she was busy. Later that day he saw at cinema kissing another boy. Alexander was furious and murdered her in cold blood. He didn't want his son to suffer as well, but he could also see how lonely he was. A nanny would suit him give him, but whom to choose?

Chapter 2: The Calling

But there were other matters. Fifty-two letters all had to be signed by Sovereign Alexander I, amongst the paperwork. Alexander picked up one and began his signature.

"Bob, mail for you!" Mags Newbie called to her son. Bob nearly jumped. He'd just been think about the horrible Goth Battles, which were soon to be televised again, and here was his mother saying she had a letter for him. What if it was summons to be a fighter in those awful Battles? Alexander was insane, sending teenagers to an island to fight for food and life. How would that help his reign? Betty Simovitch, Bob's girlfriend, took the letter from Mags and set it on the table. "Looks fancy," she commented. The script on the envelope was elegant, and with horror he saw that it was from Sovereign Alexander himself. "Oh, and Betty?" Mags said, coming back into the room with another letter. "There's something for you, too. Your mother just gave it to me." Shaking, Bob saw the same sender name on Betty's envelope. She opened it, not thinking of what it might be, and gave a happy shout of surprise. "Hey! It's an invitation for a cruise!" Bob opened his more boldly to discover the same thing.

In two other homes in Riverview, two other teenagers recieved cruise invitations. Barnacle Bay, Hidden Springs, Lunar Lakes, in all four teenagers were invited. Sunlit Tides; Monte Vista; Aurora Skies; Sunset Valley; Twinbrook; Bridgeport; Appaloosa Plains; and Moonlight Falls. Fifty-two teenage people, each group of four, would all  be boarding a luxury cruise the next morning.

Chapter 3: Aboard

A line of thirteen cruise ships cut through the deep blue sea, each about a day's travel apart. It was early summer, with just a few pearly clouds left over from spring. The first ship in the line was carrying Riverview teens, then Barnacle Bay, then Hidden Springs; all over SimNation, every culture. Bob Newbie stood, leaning on the railing above the figurehead, which was a woman carrying a scroll that read, in Latin, "Obsequar in omnibus regis scientiam." Betty stood with him, watching for land. Bob was perfectly happy.

On other ships, teens felt differently. Bart Inkbeard was hopping mad, the ship should be in front. "We're from Barnacle Bay, for Pete's sake! Sailing is our thing!" he vented to his girlfriend, Serena, while he flipped eggs angrily. "It's okay, Bart. It's not a horrible problem. Besides, can you imagine a better place to be?" Serena said happily. A lot of couples had been selected on the cruise, as well as siblings, and no one knew why.

While Serena soothed her temperamental lover, Annie Tong of Hidden Springs stayed shyly in her room. With so many teenagers on board, someone would get soaked, and she didn't want it to be her.

File:ChristaLandgraab.jpg
Christa thinking about her family in her room

In the fourth ship back, Lunar Lakes, Christa Landgraab was homesick. She missed her boyfriend, Finn, and her siblings Chris and Chrissie. Being a clone and all, she naturally wanted to stay close to her DNA-group. And Christina, too, was missed. But Christa had wanted to try something different, and this was her chance. Why complain?

One ship behind her, Ethan Tanner slept. It was better than living in fear of the water surrounding him and constantly throwing up from the swaying of the ship. Besides, there were no instruments on board, so he couldn't really do anything and enjoy it. But Ethan wrote happy letters home for his family. He was nice like that.

In the ship carrying the passengers of Monte Vista, the pizza-cooking heavily-accented town in the hills, Hudson Thomas stayed in his room chatting with friends overseas. He wished he knew more people aboard this ship.

From Auroa Skies, a girl named Cassidy Wrede {pronounced Red} played vollyball onboard, playfully, but rather childishly, teasing her opponents.

On the Sunset Valley boat, Michael Bachelor talked on the phone with his precious little sister, the future mother of Alexander, Bella Bachelor. She missed him already.

Chase in the pool

Chase Bayless, as athletic as the rest of the family she left in Twinbrook, enjoyed the fishing opportunity the boat afforded. She would be sure to catch something special. The other Twinbrook people were in the swimming pool, swimming and sunbathing and managed to get Chase in the pool at least once.

Kaitlen Ashenburg of Bridgeport mused over the conversation she had had with her mother before she left. Leah, unlike most parents, actually worried about her daughter's good nature. The day of departure, she had said cryptic things about "you are what you are" and "making the best of bad surprises". Kate had got the impression that she was supposed to figure it out over the cruise, to simplify things when she got home, but she was mystified. She yanked her denim hat off of her head and twisted it in her hands. Her mother had seemed so worried. Good Kate wanted to help, somehow, but she couldn't because she didn't understand.

What Cruz hoped his mother wasn't doing

Cruz Martingale on the Appaloosa Plains ship was grumpy as always. His mother would likely do something stupid and actually start something with one of the men she was always bringing over. And the ship was too big; it took forever simply to walk to the edge to drop something in the water. Still, being at home was worse, with his Mom's guy friends. And he was fairly sure that she'd soon start dating a man named Kanoa Parrott. He snorted at the thought.

In the second ship from the end, the one carrying Starlight Shores passengers, Mandy Best tried to stay away from one particular passenger:Natasha Gooder. All the Bests hated all the Gooders; that's how it worked. Mandy was glad that she wasn't alone in her hatred for the Gooders, her brother Calvin was on board too. He didn't try as hard to stay away from the rival family, though. It was very odd.

At the tail of the procession, Emelie Van Gould, a Moonlight Falls girl, stayed out of the sun. It was no secret that she, like all other Van Goulds, was a vampire.

The thirteen cruise ships sailed on through the ocean.

Chapter 4: Newcomer

Pearl Inkbeard stood quietly at the grand hall of Sovereign Alexander I. It was very grand and massive. She thought about all the homeless people in the Simnation and how this very hall could house thousands. She had her suitcase in one hand and in the other the letter sent to her by Alexander calling on her to care for the prince, Alexander II. She worried about her parents and her grandparents and how they would cope without her and Bart. Bart was going on a luxury cruise whilst she was stuck taking care of a prince.

Suddenly Alexander came in and all her thoughts went out the window.

"You must be the new nanny," he said.

"Yes, I have your letter right here, O great Watcher," she replied respectfully, hiding her seething at a man who somehow got 52 teenagers to kill each other in an island.

"Good, good. I have very important rules. First, no filling Alexander's mind with foolish things such as fairy tales, he need solid facts which will help in later life when he's king. Second, follow his timetable correctly, you will see it in his room. Lastly, don't try to befriend him. Understand?"

"Yes, thank you for this for this generous job, sir."

"This way," Alexander Sr said, showing her to her charge's room.

Alexander II working

Pearl walked into Alexander's room, which was filled with books. The floor was oak and there was a bed at the end of the room. The curtains were made out of red velvet. There were no posters on the walls, no color in the room. It didn't look like a child's room, it looked my like a office. She saw Alexander working at his desk. He quickly glanced at her. His face said all, you can see sorrow, pain and loneliness all over it. She felt sorry for this young boy, who did nothing yet was tormented by his own father.

"Hello?" she asked softly, almost afraid to intrude, he looked so fragile.

"Sorry, I can't talk to you, I have to revise the mistakes on the civil war accounts for another 4 hours, see. Look at the timetable," Alexander said, a hint of anguish in his voice. What child would want to study a horror story with their father as the villain?

Alexander watching one of the boats

Alexander I was watching the boats sail. The screen then quickly changed to Barnacle Bay. How could that happen? thought Alexander. There was never anything wrong with T.V... Unless... The TV only changed when someone spoke about Alexander in mean way. He glanced again and saw the Goldbeard family. They were shouting at a camera, but how did they know where a camera was? They were shouting about unfairness about how the Inkbeard family won the cruise and not them. Alexander soon thought of what to do. He pressed a green button and soon Kidd Goldbeard got struct by lightning. That stopped them.

Alexanders desk

Was he too harsh? Would Mortimer have done that? Mortimer was his role-model in life. Mortimer only made one mistake in life: marrying Bella, who would eventually just walk into a spaceship and leave them all behind. Nothing got in the way of Mortimer's work, he was successful scientist who discovered the key of immortal life. He also helped build the time-machine. What would Mortimer do now? Alexander looked across his table, there were several buttons.

One of the buttons was very important, when he pressed the button it  would broadcast the Goth games across every TV in SimNation. But he had to be careful, he had to make sure the people were too far out to be rescued, and that no one know how they got there. Then the games would begin...

Chapter 5: A Horrifying Arrival

Bob Newbie stood at the railing of the Riverview ship, holding Betty's hand and pondering the small mound of land in the distance. The captain had told them that this would be a sea-only venture, without any stops on land, but here they were, cruising straight for an island. Thinking about the captain turned his mind to the government that was Sovereign Alexander I. It was puzzling. Why would someone who opressed the cities enough to put fifty-two teenagers on an island to fight for their lives turn around and give away a cruise vacation to so many?

It came to him as he turned in for the night. With a yelp of anguish, he ran in his sleepwear to Betty's room, pounding on the door. She opened it sleepily, then woke up as she saw the look on Bob's face. "What's wrong? Come in," she said worriedly. "Betty! We're going to be the people in the Goth Battles!" he exclaimed. "What makes you think that? Bob, what happened? You're scaring me," Betty whimpered. "It just makes too much sense for it not to be true," he continued rapidly. "Fifty-two people on thirteen cruise ships. Fifty-two people in the Battles from thirteen towns. We are the contestants. This ship is heading for the arena." Betty paled. "We have to tell somebody. Everybody. We can't kill each other, Laurel and Max are our friends! We have to tell them tonight; tomorrow we might be on the island."

Bob had managed to gather a sleepy, pajama-wearing pair that were the other passengers on the main deck. "Whadd'you want?" A sleepy Max McDermott asked. "I have just realized something. We are going to be fighters in the Goth Battles. There are fifty-two special passengers on the line of cruise ships, and fifty-two contestants in the Battles. We are the Riverview contestants." "But everyone knows that the contestants are dropped from a spaceship onto the island," Laurel Grisby objected. "That's just a theory. No one knows for sure how they get there. That island in the distance," Bob continued, pointing to the strip of land, illuminated by the full moon, "is the arena. We all have to promise not to fight." "Why would we do that?" Laurel asked irritably, bitter over her thoughts of never finding love. "It's our only chance to get out. We'll all die in there anyway, so what's the point of having scruples?" "So that we won't lose ourselves in there. Killing each other would make us like Alexander." "So what?" Laurel continued, on a roll now. "Alexander's the one with a palace and people doing whatever he wants and we're the ones who work for him. Which is better off?" "That's not the point!" Betty cried, feeling bad for Bob, and especially Laurel. She knew what was making Laurel talk that way. "Listen," Max said, trying to calm the group. "We're probably not going to be in the arena anyway. This is just a coincedence. Let's all go to bed." Dejected, Bob went back to his room.

The next day, the first ship crashed.

The Riverview ship was curving around the island when it happened, hiding itself from the other cruise ships. Bob and Betty were talking over last night's events, Max was working out, and Laurel was painting the beautiful island. Suddenly, the ship swerved to the side, breaking the front on a rock. The captain ordered everybody out, and Bob and Betty were white with fear. They knew this was coming. From nowhere a rocketship with Alexander's insignia on it appeared, letting down a beam that lifted the broken cruise ship into the air. It vanished again with a flash of light.

For Riverview, the Battle had begun.
