Template:Tutorial-nav Any Sim with character data can be resurrected, and when a Sim dies in-game the character data gets transferred to their urn or tombstone. So any Sim who died in-game and who still has a tombstone or urn can be resurrected. Any Sim whose urn or tombstone has been deleted is gone forever.[1] Some of the Maxis pre-made dead Sims, like Skip Broke, seem to have character data stored somewhere else.

In SimPE, dead Sims that can't be resurrected are indicated by a pink dot on their picture in Sim Browser view.

Resurrect-o-Nomitron

This section describes features that are only available in The Sims 2: University.

If there are townies that are descended from the Sim you want to resurrect, you can use this method. If you can make them playable, they can resurrect your Sim with the Resurrect-o-Nomitron.

  1. Identify a descendant of your Sim. You will see your Sim in their family tree once they are playable.
  2. Make the descendant playable. (See Townie#Turning a Townie into a Playable Sim.)
  3. Get Resurrect-o-Nomitron via the Paranormal career track.
  4. Have the descendant resurrect your Sim.
  5. Have the now-resurrected Sim resurrect the rest of the family.

If there are no descendants, you can do one of two things:

  1. With "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" activated, shift+click on the mailbox and click on the button that says "Make Me Know Everyone". This cheat will make the selected Sim know everyone, even those who have passed away.
  1. With Nightlife or later, another option is to spawn the Tombstone of Life and Death and use its "Add Neighbor to Family" function. To do this:
    • First, make sure that the game in on speed 1, and that the selected Sim has no actions in their queue.
    • Pause the game.
    • Cycle through the Tombstone's "Add Neighbor to Family" menu until the name of the Sim you want to resurrect appears, then click that name.
    • Now, the game must be resumed and then paused again by pressing P twice quickly. If these steps are done correctly, the Sim will stay on the screen.
    • Shift-click the Sim, and select "Make Sim my Contact".
    • When the game is unpaused, the Sim will fade away. The selected Sim can now resurrect that deceased Sim with the Resurrect-O-Nomitron.

The "Add Neighbor to Family" menu only shows first names, so this works best with Sims who have unique first names.

You can get the Resurrect-O-Nomitron with "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" activated and shift+click on the newspaper, then select Career Rewards under Paranormal, or by typing 'unlockCareerReewards'[TS2:NL]+ in the cheat box to unlock all career rewards.

You may have to type in check box only do the newpaper and it works.

InSimenator (The Sims 2)

  1. Select one of your sims.
  2. Click on a random spot, then press "Spawn...".
  3. Keep looking until you find "Mortality adjustor", then click on it.
  4. A big pointed tombstone should appear. Click on it.
  5. Select "Resurrection...". A screen should pop up saying "Call...", with the faces of the dead Sims.
  6. Select the Sim you want to resurrect and "call" them.
  7. If their grave/urnstone is on the lot, it should disappear. Double-click on the once-dead Sim's portrait and it should zoom to the far right side of your screen (behind the road), and your Sim should be standing there.

NOTES:

  • This seems to be a fairly safe method, at least a little safer than Tombstone of Life and Death.
  • This method is similar to the Resurrect-O-Nomitron, except that you don't call the Grim Reaper, and you don't have to pay money to get the dead Sim back.
  • You can also get Sims back that died from over-use of boolprop (Sims that supposedly "died on another lot").

IMPORTANT: Like other cheats, you shouldn't abuse this method or try it on the premade dead sims for the safety of your game. Also, other Sims WILL still remember that sim's death even though they are brought back from the dead. They will also remember any ghost encounters they had.

Genie Lamp

This section describes features that are only available in The Sims 2: FreeTime.

Have a family member or close friend use a genie lamp to resurrect a dead Sim. The Matchmaker will randomly give the genie lamp as a gift, though she seems to do it more frequently to those who call her often.

When you obtain it, simply "Dust Lamp", then "Wish" > "Resurrect (Sim)".

Witch Spell

This section describes features that are only available in The Sims 2: Apartment Life.

You can use the evil witch's spell to turn one of the family members into a zombie, or a good witch can revive the Sim as a normal Sim. From there, the Sim can resurrect the rest of the family members.

The Grave Move Method

The Grave Move Method can be used in The Sims 2 to resurrect Sims. You need Nightlife and University or FreeTime for this to work:

  1. Move the Sim's grave to a community lot.
  2. Use the genie lamp or Resurrect-O-Nomitron to resurrect the Sim.
  3. You will now have the resurrected Sim.

This method of reviving works with these Sims:

Pleasantview:

  • Victor Goth
  • Gunther Goth
  • Cornelia Goth
  • Agnes Crumplebottom
  • Simon Crumplebottom
  • Darleen Dreamer
  • Michael Bachelor

Strangetown:

  • Olive Specter's victims

Veronaville:

  • All the Capps
  • All the Montys

Fixing the package file

Requires SimPE. Originally written for Mary Melons and Glabe Curious. May not work on all Sims.

If, in game, a Sim is treated like a non-resurrectable Sim, this can be fixed using SimPE:

  1. Go to the character file.
  2. Select "Object Data" from the resource tree, then select the file that appears in the resource list.
  3. In the plugin view, change the "obj. type" (upper right hand corner) from "unknown" to "person."
  4. Commit and save.
  5. Now in game, the Sim is addable to your household with boolprop.

Resurrecting Sims with no character data

A summary of the tutorial by Celesta92059

  1. Create or download a clone of the Sim you want to resurrect.
  2. Open the clone in SimPE and open the Character File.
  3. Select all of the files in the Resource List and "Extract" and save them.
  4. Reload the neighborhood and open the real Sim you want to resurrect.
  5. Go to the Other tab. Under Misc where it says Unlinked: 0x0001. Change the 1 at the end to a 0.
  6. Click "Commit" and save.
  7. Open the Sim's Character File.
  8. Remove 7 files from the replica's extracted data folder: Catalog Description, Directory of Compressed files, jpgtgapng image, Object Data, Object Functions, Version Information, and package.
  9. "Add" the rest of the replica's extracted data
  10. Select Object Data and select the file there.
  11. In the Plugin View window change the Obj.Type to Person.
  12. Click "Commit" and save.

Download .package files of all The Sims 2 dead ancestors. Just extract the .package files into The Sims 2 SavedSims folder and they will be available in Body Shop and CAS.

Getting the "Oh My Ghost!" special opportunity

This section describes features that are only available in The Sims 3.

  1. Make any Sim related to the Sim you want to resurrect.
  2. Move the Sim in to their household and kill the Sim.
  3. The relative will receive the "Oh My Ghost!" opportunity. Instead of taking the dead Sim's tombstone to the graveyard, take the tombstone of the Sim you want resurrected to the Science lab.
  4. When the relative comes out the dead Sim will be a controllable ghost.

Note: An easier way to get the "Oh My Ghost!" opportunity is to have a high relationship with the ghost that you want to resurrect.
