He lives with his father, Andrew Martin, and his grandmother's best friends, Betty Goldstein and Catherine Viejo. His mother, Elena Martin, is deceased when the game starts.

Jacob loves video games. Consequently, he has a part-time job in the gamer career track. He usually hangs out with his dad since they both have the same set of interests. When the family is first played, Jacob is 11 days from becoming an adult.

Jacob is currently dating Sandra Roth, but his love for video games might hinder their relationship. He used to date his friend Jules O'Mackey, but broke up with her. Jacob's roommate, Betty Goldstein, is Sandra's first cousin once removed.

Jacob's memories state that his mother died when he was a child, however the family photos show that she actually died when Jacob was a toddler. This is also the case with his grandmother, Linda.
