Relationships (The Sims Bustin' Out (handheld))

From The Sims Wiki, a collaborative database for The Sims series

Relationships in The Sims Bustin' Out (handheld) are determined through the dialogue chosen when you talk to a Sim. Each Sim has their own preferences regarding the type of dialogue chosen, and these preferences can be subject to change depending on how high their relationship is with your Sim. Increasing your relationships with the Sims in SimValley will increase your Popularity; the average of all relationship scores with Sims you've met.

Relationships decay randomly by 1-3 points each day.

Relationship Types[edit | edit source]

Friends[edit | edit source]

Friendship with an NPC is attained by achieving a relationship score of 50 or higher. Friends will have a background with smiley faces in their dialogue menu.

It is important to remain friends with a fair number of Sims, as certain objectives require you to have multiple friends.

Friendship is lost when the relationship score drops below zero or a loss of 10 relationship points occurs within a single conversation.

Love[edit | edit source]

Love with an NPC can only be attained if your Sim is of the opposite gender. Social Interactions performed with an NPC who is in love with your Sim will be boosted by 2 points, whether positive or negative. Loves will have a background with hearts in their dialogue menu.

If you have a relationship score of 50 or higher, it becomes possible for your Sim to inspire Love with a hug, a friendly kiss, a flirt, or a passionate kiss.

If you have a relationship score of 70, the percentage chances of an interaction causing love are as follows:

Hug 40%
Friendly Kiss 60%
Flirt 60%
Passionate Kiss 70%

Love is lost when the relationship score drops below zero or if you cause an NPC to give you the silent treatment.

Social Interactions[edit | edit source]

All interactions fall under some sort of category, and there are some cues to tell which category a dialogue option may come under.

Normal Interactions[edit | edit source]

Normal interactions will always receive a consistent response from an NPC, regardless of their relationship with your Sim.

These interactions are:

  • Annoy
Something mildly insulting.
  • Apologize
Includes the word "Sorry"
  • Brag
Talk about something impressive your Sim has done.
  • Call Name
Simple, just includes the name.
  • Cheer Up
Saying something the NPC would probably want to hear.
  • Complain
Talk about something bothering your Sim.
  • Compliment
Saying something nice about the NPC.
  • Joke
Utilise a classic joke formula, e.g. "x and x walk into a bar", "did you hear the one about" etc.
  • Flirt
Usually self-evident. Only available when speaking to NPCs of the opposite gender to your Sim.
  • Insult
Something that could be considered rude.
  • Intimidate
Usually takes the form of a threat.
  • Gossip
Involves talk of other NPCs.
  • Interests
Generally involves a hobby.
  • Secret
Always starts with "Psst"
  • Tease
A joke that's somewhat at the NPC's expense.
