He carries a book in his inventory. Oddly, he dislikes children but wishes to have a big family. Another oddity is that Ryan is a young adult and his son, Jett, is a teenager. Therefore, Ryan must have had Jett very young. His traits and poor relationship with his family seems to indicate that he is a misanthrope who can't stand having people around him.
