Shell buildings is the name given for buildings which have a large exterior, but with a smaller playable interior. Examples of these buildings include the pyramids and the dragon cave exterior in The Sims 3: World Adventures. The penthouses of The Sims 3: Late Night are also shell buildings.[1] The Sims 3: Showtime adds shell buildings. In The Sims 3: University Life, university buildings are also shells. In The Sims 3: Into the Future, many community lots are covered in futuristic shells. In The Sims 3: World Adventures, the rooms in the tombs are pitch black if not explored. The Sims 4: City Living added apartment shells that are similar to The Sims 3: Late Night's penthouse shells. The Sims Mobile introduces various shell buildings for careers.

Skyscrapers are shell buildings that were shipped with The Sims 3: Late Night.[2] They are "Shell buildings"[1] and only offer one or two floors (such as the basement; some nicer penthouses have a second floor bedroom.) as a playable area for either residential penthouses or community lots, such as bars.[3] More than one rabbit hole can be inside a skyscraper.[4] This is the first time in the series that a skyscraper can be made without the use of cheats, though they were available as neighborhood decorations in The Sims 2: Nightlife and The Sims 2: Apartment Life. Skyscrapers can be placed in build mode, though, as with any rabbit hole, it has to be placed before a family moves in. Although many shells can be obtained from the buydebug catalog, some of them are unroutable due to broken door entrances.[5]

Shells

Metropolitan buildings
Location Image Size Design
The Prosper Room File:AyiD4wL.jpg 22x22 Has a large yellow billboard on the top of the left wall, toward the front. Has a small red sign toward the bottom on the back wall. Has three more small sign on the back right corner, toward the bottom of the tower. Penthouse had outdoor balcony.
Eugi’s 20x20

White-color tall, thin tower with floor-to-ceiling windows, giving a more modern feel, with a triple-level, flat-topped roof. Has a green billboard on the left side, and a curved orange sign above the door and on the top of the front.

The Simerset 30x18

Short, wide tower. Rather monotone, with the exception of some red canopy roofs over the ground floor windows.

Aquarius 30x18

Overall dark tone with a black-color canopy over the front door and "driveway" with black and white canvas roofs over the ground floor windows. The first floor is inside. The other 3 are above, allowing the player to build the upper floors—and roof—as they see fit.

The Tidewater 20x20

Has a greenish-color flat roof and decorative front door mantle/frame. The top floor is partially covered by the shell.

Veranda Villas 12x18

Rather odd shaped tall tower with a large base for the first two floors, which have a wrap-around deck on the second. Multiple floors have small concrete "balconies". Has a rather industrial-style look.

Bridgeport Armory 18x18

Dark brown concrete. Has a large blue billboard with red lettering on the back side. Only shell to have it's "penthouse" not on the top floor(s).

Bridgeport Sports Zone 30x18

Similar to the Aquarius, having canvas roofs over the ground-floor windows with the canopy over the front door. These are of a brown color. Has numerous small signs on the right side.

Plasma 501 22x22

White color tall building with blue canvas roofs over the ground-floor windows. Has two small yellow signs on the front-right corner at ground floor, a small red and white sign on the front-left corner, also at ground floor, and a larger blue and red billboard/sign on the front-right corner at the top of the tower.

The Brightmore 32x20

Has a billboard on the roof facing off of the back-left corner, orange canvas roofs over the ground floor windows, and a yellowish billboard of a Sim above the front door.

The Sims 4: City Living

Skyscraper shell buildings return in The Sims 4: City Living. They are more often seen as high story apartment buildings and usually have one to four apartments in them, though some of the skyscrapers also have a penthouse on top. Some of the buildings are mostly one-story, but there couple that have two stories. These skyscrapers can not be moved, edited or placed into another world by the player and are only found in San Myshuno.

The Sims Mobile

The Sims Mobile introduces various shell buildings for careers.
