If you feel that you are a valuable member of Chat and you think you would benefit from the Chat moderator rights, this is where to apply. The minimum requirements are:

  • Be an active user of Chat (on chat every day, or nearly every day) for at least four months.
  • Having a fair knowledge on how Chat works and the rules of using Chat.
  • A good record of civil behavior - if you have been told off for messing around or are constantly bringing up heart-touching (i.e sensitive topics) or inappropriate topics, then you are not ready for this.
  • Having good English skills is a necessity as English is the only language allowed on main Chat.
    • Spking liek dis meens ur not rdy 2 bcome Chat mod.

Application procedure

Stage 1: Nominating

  • Users may nominate themselves or other users for Chat moderator rights.
  • Multiple requests at one time are allowed.
  • Moderator candidates that are not given any additional privileges are ineligible to be nominated or to nominate themselves for at least a month.

Stage 2: Discussion

  • A period of discussion shall last at least three days.
  • If a request will clearly not achieve a favorable consensus (i.e. there is absolutely no support for promotion) - in other words, the request doesn't have a "snowball's chance" of passage - it may be canceled early.
  • After three days of discussion, it shall be determined whether a consensus is in favor of a user being given Chat Moderator rights. If there is a consensus, rights will be awarded. If there is clearly no consensus for a user to be promoted, the discussion is ended and rights will not be awarded.
  • In cases where consensus is not clear after three days, discussion will continue for three additional days.
  • If, after this time, there is no clear consensus either in favor or not in favor of promotion, the request proceeds to Stage 3.

Stage 3: Voting

  • A period of voting shall last five days.
  • Votes for a nominee may only be support or oppose votes. Any neutral votes cast will not be included in an official vote count.
  • A 2/3rds majority vote (of counted votes only) is required for a promotion nomination to pass this stage.

Note

Both administrators and bureaucrats may moderate discussions and votes, determine consensus, and award rights to successful nominees. Administrators and bureaucrats may participate in discussions and vote, but must be impartial when moderating, determining consensus, and awarding rights.

What you will do as a Chat moderator

  • Protect Chat from disruptive behavior by warning, kicking and/or banning disruptive individuals.
  • Maintain an active presence in Chat so that it's more easily moderated; it's not worth having these rights if you're hardly ever in Chat.

What you may not do as a Chat moderator

  • Use your operator privileges to take advantage of users or to control the Chat.
  • Ignore the needs and wants of Chat users.
  • Abuse rights by using them incorrectly, for personal reasons or against non-disruptive users.

Requests for content moderatorship

If you feel that you would make a good fit for Content Moderatorship, or you feel that another user on the wiki would make a good fit, please put your application/nomination below. Please make sure that you/your nominee meet the minimum requirements before submitting an application/nomination.

Minimum requirements

In order to apply for Content Moderator rights, or to be nominated, a user must:

  • Be a registered member of The Sims Wiki for at least three months
  • Be an active wiki editor in the content namespaces (the main namespace, game guides namespace, and/or the fanon namespace)
  • Show an understanding of basic wiki editing, and at least some experience with more in-depth/technical aspects such as category or template usage

Procedure for Applications and Nominations

Step One - Applications or nominations

Any user who meets the minimum requirements may apply for Content Moderator rights. Applicants should add their application, including a signature, to the "Current requests" section below.

Any registered user on The Sims Wiki may nominate an eligible user for Content Moderator rights. Users nominating another user should explain why the nominee is a good fit for the role, and must include the nominating user's signature. Nominations should be added to the "Nominations" section below.

A nominee must accept a nomination on the "Requests for Moderatorship" page before it can be considered. If a nomination is accepted by the nominee and the nominee is eligible for the role, the nomination will be moved to "current requests" and will be processed in the same manner as self-applications. Nominees may decline any nomination for any reason they choose; nominees who decline nominations may be re-nominated or may apply for the position at any time in the future.

In their application, or when responding to a nomination, the applicant/nominee ("Candidate") should explain why they want and would be a good fit for the role, and must include the candidate's signature.

Step Two - Discussion

The period of discussion on a Content Moderator promotion should last at least seven (7) days. Discussions can be ended early by an administrator or bureaucrat if the candidate is found to be ineligible, if the candidate requests it, or if the application has no chance of succeeding due to opposition. Multiple Content Moderator discussions may be conducted simultaneously, but each discussion should focus on only one candidate.

Discussions should be focused on determining whether a candidate is a good fit for the position. Any registered member of The Sims Wiki may participate in user promotion discussions. Users are encouraged to keep an open mind about all candidates and to ask questions. Users should avoid sweeping praise or generalizations about a candidate (e.g. "he she deserves/it" or "he/she is a good editor), but should instead focus on specific positives or negatives and specific reasons why a candidate should or should not be promoted. Discussion participants are expected to remain civil and polite, especially when speaking critically of a candidate. The candidate is encouraged to participate in the discussion, especially to answer questions or address any issues regarding their candidacy. All discussion posts must be signed.

Step Three - Resolution

If, after seven days of discussion, there appears to be consensus in favor of promotion, the candidate will be promoted. If there is no clear consensus in favor of the promotion, the discussion will end and the candidate will not be promoted. In cases where a candidate is not successful in obtaining Content Moderator rights, the candidate may re-apply or be nominated again at any point in the future; however, candidates who do not achieve promotion should address the specific issue(s) brought up during the discussion before re-applying. If a user repeatedly applies for Content Moderator rights despite multiple failed applications, and the user shows no or few attempts to correct the issue(s) that led to their earlier failures, they may be restricted from making further applications for a period of time, as determined by the administrators.

KailynnKat

I, LostInRiverview, would like to nominate KailynnKat (talk · contribs · editcount · block · modify rights · logs · block log) (formerly known as "Karu Katerchen") for Content Moderator rights on The Sims Wiki.

KailynnKat has been a long-time contributor to The Sims Wiki and has shown strong editing skills. I believe she would benefit substantially from having Content Moderator tools, and the wiki as a whole would benefit from her knowledge and experience in that role. KailynnKat also has a proven history of anti-vandalism actions, and has participated in several on-wiki discussions as well. Ultimately, The Sims Wiki will benefit from her leadership and skill level in this position. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 05:05, February 9, 2018 (UTC)

Excuse me for not responding sooner. I'm very flattered by this nomination and I'm very thankful. I accept it. In case I become a content moderator, I'll promise to use these tools respectfully and with care. - KailynnKat(talk/fanon) 22:48, February 11, 2018 (UTC)

Strong support - Out of the users that I would have recommended for the position, KailynnKat is definitely one of those users. Even though it's been years since she first started, her activity has increased lately, and she has shown to have developed quite a strong history of edits, and counter vandalism. So she has my full confidence. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 23:50, February 11, 2018 (UTC)

Strong support, as per my nominating statement. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 05:10, February 12, 2018 (UTC)

Support I have known KailynnKat to be a level-headed and mature user in addition to being prolific with content creation and a definite net positive to the wiki. With the new content moderator role being geared towards users who are more focused towards the content creation aspect of wiki editing and not the behind-the-scenes administrative tasks, KailynnKat is more than qualified for the content mod role. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 22:09, February 12, 2018 (UTC)

Support KailynnKat has made a lot of great edits to the wiki and a Content Moderator status would make future edits even better. - SimDestroyer (talk) 18:39, February 18, 2018 (UTC)

Conclusion

A week's time having passed, and seeing full support for promotion, I must conclude that the promotion of KailynnKat to content moderator has been approved. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 01:03, February 19, 2018 (UTC)

SimDestroyer

I, LostInRiverview (talk) would like to nominate SimDestroyer (talk · contribs · editcount · block · modify rights · logs · block log) for content moderator rights on The Sims Wiki.

Over the past several months, SimDestroyer has shown himself to be a very prolific and high-quality editor in the main namespace. Additionally, he hasn't shied away from editing files, templates, or categories, and he has even created several new templates and categories. Additionally, he has participated in a few wiki discussions on a variety of topics. He has a few page undos/reverts under his belt as well, so he isn't afraid to address vandalism or potentially incorrect or misleading information in articles either. Overall, I think that SimDestroyer is a very competent editor and would be a good fit for the content moderator role. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 02:46, February 22, 2018 (UTC)

I'm very thankful for this nomination and I'll accept it. If I become a Content Moderator, I promise to use the tools given to further improve the wiki. - SimDestroyer (talk) 07:22, February 22, 2018 (UTC)

Support, as per my nominating statement - LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 15:18, February 22, 2018 (UTC)

Strong support - I agree with everything that LostInRiverview said. SimDestroyer has only been here since June 2017 and has almost 2,700 constructive edits. I think he'd be a positive addition. - KailynnKat(talk/fanon) 23:47, February 22, 2018 (UTC)

Support SimDestroyer is one of those users that astound me. Although he's been here for less than a year, SimDestroyer has proven themselves to be at the very least a mature and level-headed editor who is prolific at what they do. They are excellent at content creation and despite their relatively short tenure, they have more than adequately demonstrated that they are trustworthy enough to have the content moderator tools. I am sure that they will be able to put such tools to good use. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 01:17, February 23, 2018 (UTC)

Support - I agree with everything that the other users above me have said, so I don't really have much to add, myself. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 11:50, February 25, 2018 (UTC)

Conclusion

As this nomination has passed with flying colours, SimDestroyer is now the wiki's second content moderator. Congratulations! —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:54, March 2, 2018 (UTC)
