Skill Challenges, Hints, and Tips[edit source]

Cooking[edit source]

  1. Purchase an inexpensive Refrigerator, Food processor, and Stove at first, but you'll want to upgrade these to the best available as soon as possible!
  2. Simply practice your Chef Sim's Cooking while at work and prepare meals of favorite foods of everyone in your household, but don't cook too much or too often, or the food will just go to waste (just one meal of each favorite food until it runs out)! Through time, preparing up to 75 meals with earn you both Star Chef and World-Class Chef Skill challenges.
  3. Even though some meals can only be prepared at certain times of the day (breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner), if you queue to prepare a meal at the right time of the day, your Chef Sim will still prepare it later regardless of what time of day it is. For example, if you queue to prepare Waffles in the morning while your Chef Sim is Fishing or Gardening, they'll still come back and make Waffles later even if it's lunchtime by the time it's prepared.
  4. As your Chef Sim's Cooking skill improves, purchase and read all recipe books from the Bookstore will earn your Menu Maven Skill challenge.
  5. If The Sims 3 World Adventures expansion pack's installed, purchase and read Recipes only found in China, Egypt, and France.

Fishing[edit source]

  1. I recommend to purchase an inexpensive, portable Stereo, keep it in your Sim's Inventory, and take with you on Fishing trips. Also plant an Apple Tree (see below for details).
  2. Focus mostly on your Chef Sim's Fishing skill early in the game more so than your Cooking or Gardening skills, especially on your days off from work.
  3. As your Fishing skill improves, purchase and read all fishing books from your local Bookstore to learn what bait to use for specific types of Fish. I highly recommend focus catching Alley Catfish using Cheese as bait, Angelfish using Alley Catfish as bait, and lastly, Death Fish using Angelfish as bait.
  4. Catching one of each type of Fish will fulfill Amateur Ichthyologist Skill challenge.
  5. Catching 350 Fish will fulfill Commercial Fisherman Skill challenge (may take some time).
  6. If The Sims 3 World Adventures expansion pack's installed, purchase and read Fishing books only found in China, Egypt, and France to learn what bait to use for their Fish, and start Fishing there!

Gardening[edit source]

  1. Purchase a Sprinkler asap. I highly recommend placing it at the front-right corner or front-left corner of your property (allowing the full 5x5 area), and as close as possible to both your kitchen and trash can for quick access. Have your handy Sim upgrade the sprinkler to "Auto Water" at Handiness Level 4.
  2. Purchase as least one of each and every food item from the Grocery store, and plant it when you've achieved the appropriate Gardening skill level, but you only need to plant only one of each type of Plant! Don't overwhelm yourself, because you'll want to focus on your Sim's Fishing skill mostly early in the game. Your Gardening skill will slowly increase appropriately if you only plant one of each type, and immediately replace it when the Plant dies.
  3. Be sure to plant an Apple Tree, and harvest it before going Fishing! Apples are great snacks on fishing trips!
  4. If The Sims 3 World Adventures expansion pack's installed, harvest or purchase produce only found in China, Egypt, and France, and plant these items in your Garden back home.
