Broke family
In The Sims 2, the Broke Family resides in Pleasantview. It consists of Brandi Broke, widow of Skip Broke; Dustin Broke, a teen going steady with Angela Pleasant; and Beau Broke, a toddler who is the last born in the family before you play the game. When you first play the family, Brandi is pregnant with her last child from Skip. Brandi is also the daughter of Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie, a married couple introduced in The Sims.
As the name suggests, they have a monetary situation, supposedly because Brandi has just lost her husband and source of income. The family has around §930 in funds, which wouldn't be so bad if it had any source of income other than Dustin's teen job. The family has a net worth of around §25,000, and Brandi does have one or two things which can be sold for cash, but that's not a long-term solution to the family's financial problems.
In The Sims 3, The Broke Family lives in Riverview. In the Riverview graveyard, there is the grave of Bernard Broke, who died as an adult. He may be the father or brother of Flat and Buck, but he is not featured in the family tree.
Of all of the family members in ''The Sims 3'', only Flat, Flo, and Skip are mentioned in ''The Sims 2''. What happened to the others is not known. No members of the family appear in The Sims, though all of them except Flat and Flo are young enough to have been alive during that time.

- Skip: "master of a ship."
- Dustin: "Thor's stone."
- Beau: "handsome."
- Flat: pun meaning "completely penniless."
- Flo: "flower," "prosperous," "flowering," "blossoming," "charming," "flourishing."
- 'Buck: a nickname that simply means "buck" (a male deer).
- Mary Lu: from Mary and Louisa, meaning "beloved" and "famous warrior," respectively.
- Trigger: possibly from "trigger," a finger-operated lever used to operate a gun.
- Susie:from Susan, meaning "rose."
- Ruby: simply means "ruby," the precious stone.
