Vague information on Trait page

Hi there. I noticed your two edits to the Trait (The Sims 3) page. I assume you added the question mark after the MummyCUT text because you weren't sure about it. A good place to write about things you're not quite sure of or would like a second opinion on, is the talk page. Other users can then contribute to your preliminary information and we can work things out together. Let me Explain

Let's start with a simple principle; everybody MUST cite their sources. This rule is especially true in articles and sections regarding new games, because the wiki strives to have only accurate information, and there is a lot of inaccurate information out there. Therefore, including a reference to a website or page that has the information is vital; failing to do that means that the info could have very well been made up on-the-spot. Duskey was right in removing the information you included on the Death page.

Let me be clear here... saying in the sentence that the information was found at some source is not good enough. If you were writing an academic paper for a class, you would be required to give a reference; for articles such as this, consider that a good rule to follow. In this case specifically, the solution is as simple as including <ref> and </ref> tags, linking to the Twitterview article. If you don't add references when necessary, Duskey or any other editor is totally right in asking for some sort of citation or in removing your information completely.

Finally, it doesn't matter to me, Duskey, or any other administrator if this is the only wiki you contribute to, or one of many wikis that you contribute to. When making a contribution on any wiki, you should edit as well as you possibly can. If you don't, the results are often poor, and that reflects badly on you and badly represents this wiki.

I'm sorry; I thought that the reason you weren't citing properly was because you chose not to, not because you didn't know how to. If you didn't know how to cite sources, you should have asked someone who does know how, rather than acting like you didn't want to cite sources, because that led me to draw the wrong conclusion. Bots

I've noticed that you have created a new bot. This wiki has no rules specifying bot usage, but it is my understanding that any user can possess a bot to make automatic or semi-automatic edits. However, I would encourage you to do two things before making use of your bot - one, you should read this page to make sure that you get all the necessary information about Wikia bot practice; two, you should at least consider applying for a bot flag, so that edits made by that bot won't overwhelm the edit histor. As a final note, your bot may be blocked temporarily if it is found that it is damaging articles or not functioning correctly. Well for now, I am not really using it to be a bot like normal bots. It is really just a side account/joke, is that wrong?

Well, creating a separate account could be seen by some as a sock puppet, but the term mostly applies to cases where a user uses another account to drum up support for something; there's no set-in-stone rule saying that one person can't have more than one account, but it's generally frowned upon. Also, I know on Wikipedia at least, giving an account the name 'bot' when it isn't a bot is not allowed; I don't know if that's the case on Wikia, but I know that calling a user 'bot' when it's not a bot is misleading, at least. We appreciate the images you've contributed to the wiki, however it seems you forgot to add some things to them. The images in question are:

Filenames: The image(s) you uploaded contains either an invalid filename or a generic filename. Please avoid using slashes in your files / \, this causes the image to not show in articles. A generic filename is eg. 'screenshot-xx'. These will be overwritten when someone else uploads and image of the same name. In the future, please mark files with invalid or generic filenames with the {{move}} template and an administrator will move it if they haven't already been moved.

I went ahead and moved it already, but now you know for future images. :)

About Redirects

Hi. I can see by the Test page that you're trying out redirects. A note on redirects - most redirects on this wiki automatically move you from one page to another. For example, if you click on a link to The Sims: Livin' It Up, it will automatically redirect you to The Sims: Livin' Large - this is called a hard redirect. I don't know if you can set up a hard redirect to another website, like Google, but I imagine if you tried, the link would have to give the complete url, including the http:// part, something like: http://www.google.com . Redirects in blog posts

Just so you know, redirects in blog posts, makes them not show up. They're only good if someone is going to the blog post link directly, eg. through a bookmark link or something. Also, when creating a forum post, it is important that you include or do not deleted the {{forumheader}} or the post will not show up in the forum listings.

I also locked your forum post, please see the disclaimer in the post as to why. I can only encourage you to divert your dissatisfaction with the incoming skin change towards Wikia and not The Sims Wiki. Changing Names

I'm just writing this to encourage you, in the future, to be a little more careful when you change the names of articles. Here's why: When you changed Vampire to Vampire (The Sims 2), you left behind a redirect (page moves automatically leave a redirect for all but administrators). This is fine, since everyone would need to be redirected anyways. However, when you moved the page again to Vampire (The Sims 1 and 2), you created a double redirect. That's a problem because the wiki will automatically redirect to a page if it's a single redirect, but the wiki will not automatically redirect on double redirects. Meaning that whenever anyone clicks on a link to the Vampire page, instead of being taken automatically to Vampire (The Sims 1 and 2)(which is the whole idea), they are taken to a redirect page.

To sum it up, please be really sure what you're going to rename an article before you rename it. And if you make a mistake or need to change the name again, just leave it alone and ask an administrator to do it, since we can move pages without making redirects, and we can also delete pages that aren't needed. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 22:22, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

I think it's a bad idea to move the Vampire page to Vampire (Sims 1 and Sims 2), it's uneccesary as the article isn't very large, only the Late Night section needed it's own article. All article setup should be uniform, this means that we would now have to rename eg. Cooking to Cooking (Sims 1 and 2) since it and many other articles have been divided into a general article and an article for The Sims 3, you should consider moving Vampire back. --Duskey^talk 22:41, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Stop moving pages

Please stop moving pages. This is the last notification you will recieve. Lately you have been moving many articles which is considered unconstructive edits. Your latest move with The Beast should not have been made since it's still being discussed how to organize vehicles on the wiki and it also has a spelling error in it. It's Motorcycle with two O's.
