Major Bot Task

I wanted to make sure you got this sooner rather than later, and I'm not sure how often you check the To do, so I'll ask it here instead.

As I'm importing pages from The Sims Medieval Wiki, there are a number of things which need to be cleaned up, mostly involving categories and links. Many of the traits or fatal flaws use the same name as TS3 traits (there are two evils, for instance, Evil and Evil (The Sims Medieval)). Obviously, some redirect system should be set up in these cases, but first it's essential that any pages that link to (in this example) Evil be re-linked to the correct page (if Evil is made into a redirect page, that is). Otherwise, some other redirect system must be thought up. This is the same for Trait (The Sims 3) and Trait (The Sims Medieval) as well.

So, a bot would be useful in making sure any TS3 traits that are changed have the links connect to the correct traits, in making sure that references to TS3 traits and Medieval traits link to the correct pages, and in making sure the categories used on the pages imported are correct (most are not). In this case, The Sims Medieval Wiki used Category:Traits for Medieval Traits, while I've set up Category:Medieval Traits for traits from that game.

If there's a better way to approach this issue, please let me know. It seems like it's going to be quite a bit of work to get this organized, but oh well. -- LostInRiverview ^{talk · blog} 21:39, February 19, 2011 (UTC)

Infobox problem on Fanon pages

New Admins

Hey A Morris. Bayoubash "retired" from the wiki and I've therefore removed him as an administrator. This brings us down to five active or semi-active administrators, three of whom I barely ever see around the wiki. As the Fanon Administrators have been picking up much of the slack (seeing as the fanon namespace is still quite small), I'm sure we can handle things without picking up new admins immediately, but I think we should entertain the idea of opening up admin requests soon. I'm still waiting on a response from Matta jr regarding their absence, but if they are also taken out of active administrators we will be down to six, including Bleeh. I don't want to open it immediately, but I'd like to discuss it.

I think that's a good plan. If the fanon namespace hasn't really taken off by that time, I wouldn't see the harm in holding out for a while before opening up admin requests, simply because the fanon admins have been doing a good job on wiki-wide administration.

I'd like your opinion on {{Sims}}. Do you think that is helpful for navigation? I would like to replace it with a series of templates that are more related to each article. For example, era-specific templates like {{The Sims navigation}}, Succession templates like {{S-tsmm}}, and theme templates like {{dating}}. Can you think of any thing else?

I am also considering how we categorize articles for sims, objects, lots, etc. Instead of placing the articles in every category I am suggesting they only be placed in the lowest subcategory and also separate them by game and neighborhood. I.e. a category would be of the style "sims of type x from game y", ex. "Females from Apartment Life". Here is a chart of what I am talking about. Teleportation Pad

The Sims Medieval, again...

Hi a_morris! How have you been? First of all I would like to discuss with you some major changes I've planned for articles, regarding the game: "The Sims Medieval! II don't know if you already have the game so I'll explain somethings about it to make you understand about some of my decisions. First of all,the game starts with no Hero Sims, do if creating a template we will not need to concern with that. I think a new Sim template should be created for The Sims Medieval Sims, noting that all of the pre-made Sims are NPCs, Villager Sims, in the template we could include "NPC" type, and these pre-made NPC types would be "Nobleperson", "Bandit", "Builder", "Looter" and many more, all these NPCs start with no known family relationships, considering that they are totally impossible to play even using cheats we will never know. The only possible life stages are Baby, Child and Adult, though there are only pre-made Children and Adults at start. There's only a problem, the Kingdom has no name at start we are the ones who choose it, what could we do about it, how could be this page created? Afterall, the template could look like this:

Looks good. As for the kingdom, we could just call it the "Kingdom" or the "Kingdom in The Sims Medieval" and if more become available (through downloadable content or expansions) we can number them. For the NPC type, play can be used, I already have plans for expanding it to include types of NPCs for other Sims. Email

Hello there! I thought I should contact the entire admin team about this, since this is a little bit off-wiki but still, from what I and some contacted admins can see, an idea that could be beneficial for The Sims Wiki.

I am currently in the planning - almost creating - process of making an email account for The Sims Wiki. This account, while not needed extremely, could bring a large amount of positive things for the wiki.

Firstly, this is a smaller The Sims Wiki version of Special:Contact. Through this, we can send surveys to users about new features or ideas we implement. Do the users agree with a makeover of the Community Portal? Do the users want this policy to be added? What ideas do users have for the future?

Secondly, we can use this for more private, though still completely controlled, user reporting. If I see someone being rude to me and don't want to "look stupid" by reporting it to an admin, which some users do think, what do I do? I send an email through, and let an admin read it and check what's been going on. Note: This isn't a "I emailed first!" scenario, every user involved, included the sender, will be investigated.

Thirdly, and this is completely optional for users, they can "subscribe" to the newsletter. This will be where they allow us to send a monthly, if not bi-weekly, email, containing links to active votes and discussions, the Newsletter, open positions, new features, etc.

Now, I still have a lot of ideas on how to use this productively, but another reason I'm contacting all admins is to sort out something. I know that I may not be completely trusted by all of the admins to handle this alone so I am going to ask all admins who wish to join the project to say so on my talk page, and I will send the password to you once the email account is activated. Currently, I prefer as little users managing this account as possible, due to problems that may arise if all admins had access to the same account. I would appreciate only bureaucrats requesting the password if they like, but I still encourage admins to request it if they wish.

Please note that this account will not use my, or any other user's real account password, as that would be pretty dumb to hand out on a silver plate.

I hope you all read this and think about ideas and or reasons to oppose it.

Sorry I haven't answered you. I've been taking a break to play The Sims Medieval. I really like it and I think my brother's hooked too!

Part of the delay was because I am considering making changes to the main categories (i.e. separating trait, age, etc. categories by game and/or neighbourhood) and wasn't sure if I wanted to make the same changes to the fanon categories as well (I've decided no, at least for now, as I don't think they are as relevant) AND how to code it so it is easy to edit and use for both main and fanon namespaces. Also there appears to be a bug in Sim pages, this bug is related to the Sim template in same way, the bug is "Retrieved from "http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Sim" appear on the bottom of pages, an example is Flat Broke, there's also another glitch regarding templates posted in non-mainspace pages (see User:Kiwi tea], where the template gives categories that should only be used in mainspace articles, and also when puting "None" in "Child" section on all simbios and sim templates, the sims will appear on the category "Parents," do you know how to fix these? --Guilherme Guerreiro (talk here) 19:29, June 11, 2011 (UTC)

Template:Sim

Hi, A morris. I'm not sure if you would be able to do this, but I thought I'd ask you anyway. Would it be possible for you to modify Template:Sim so that it only categorises pages if they are in the Fanon or Main namespace? My reasoning is I've seen many userpages with the template and it incorrectly categorises the user's profile pages into the categories which are determined by parameter input. It also clutters Special:WantedCategories with categories determined by paramteres users have used. Thanks! ―ฬђ ^talk 23:09, October 30, 2011 (UTC)

I've tried adding {{sim}} to my test page (diff) and null editing a page which already had the template on it via my AWB account (diff), ad the categories are still there. Thanks a lot for that! I was just going to clean out Category:Fanon Cleanup and noticed something odd on some of the pages in it, namely this, this and this, which is the categories are acting strange. I noticed it categorises them into mainspace categories instead of fanon categories, e.g. this one into Category:Sims who love pop music instead of Category:Sims who love pop music (fanon). It used to be fine and only appears to affect parameters to do with a sim's favorites, leading me to think it might be related to the other issue above. Hi, A morris. I've been around Wikia since 2007, and I thought I could offer some help to this wiki. Although, it seems everything is well maintained and help may not be needed. Nevertheless, I'm experienced with Wikia coding, and I'd love to become a part of this community.

Unlockable Interactions: Films and Literature

Hello. I just amended your submission for the hobby-specific Films and Literature interactions (within the Hobby article) with a clarification.  Until very recently, I myself didn't make the connection between this "Book Club" and the ability to Discuss novels with other Sims, and apparently someone in Yahoo Answers (whom I discovered when I was Googling "The Sims 2 Book Club") didn't make that connection either.  So in case it's not just me and the game itself isn't being perfectly clear about the Discuss interaction being more-or-less the whole of this Book Club membership, I left this clarification.
