Re: Advice Needed[edit source]

I see that you have already gotten a reply from K6ka, so I guess the only thing I can say more is to be bold in making edits and ask if there is anything that you don't know how to do. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 20:42, July 9, 2015 (UTC)

- Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I'll definitely be more bold, and will ask if I need help. I've already signed up for the adoption system, so I'll hopefully get help that way. Thank you again so much. S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 20:52, July 9, 2015 (UTC)

Adoption[edit source]

I have decided that I will go ahead and adopt you, so that you can ask me questions. Although from what I have seen, it doesn't look like you need much help. If you would like to accept me adopting you, you can use this template on your user page: <Icemandeaf> -- Icemandeaf (talk) 01:34, July 12, 2015 (UTC)

True, templates can be a little tricky at times (like I noticed you quickly found out just now with the User adopted template. I have found that using preview helps catch many mistakes (although not all). -- Icemandeaf (talk) 16:41, July 12, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Question[edit source]

That is fine. I did it all the time when I was first learning things myself. If you are making it your own page with your own information, but getting a template from someone else's page, then you aren't in any trouble. The only time you would be in trouble would be if you were to impersonate someone else.

As far as using American English rather than British English, the Wiki generally has a policy of using American English just because that is where the game comes from. So if you were to change neighbourhood to neighborhood, that would be perfectly acceptable.

BTW, I noticed that you tried to do an indentation for a talk page. This is actually common practice, but I will teach you how it is usually done. It is a lot easier. ;-) If you are using the source view, a colon (:) at the beginning of the line is one indentation. Having multiple colons at the beginning of the line (i.e. ::) will do multiple indentations. If you are in the visual view, you just have to using the "increase indent" button for the same effect. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 17:54, July 14, 2015 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Just wanted to point out that, while the wiki generally uses U.S. English, the top priority is making sure the article uses a consistent style throughout. So if the article was initially written in British English, it's best not to suddenly add a paragraph that uses U.S. English. The Manual of Style says: though changes to important articles to adapt them to house style are occasionally useful, please don't make a point of changing an article to your preferred style, if this helps. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 17:56, July 14, 2015 (UTC)
Thank you both so much. That really clarifies things. I'm really happy that I'm not in trouble. I would never impersonate anyone, but just needed help with the templates. I've told you those were hard for me. :) Thanks for helping me with the indention problem Icemandeaf. I wasn't sure how to do it. Now I know how. XD S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 18:01, July 14, 2015 (UTC)

Links[edit source]

When making a link to another page within the Wiki in the main namespace, you don't need to start with "sims:" as it will be automatically assumed that is where you want it to go. I have changed the last two pages that you did to that effect, but I thought you might like to know. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 18:46, July 14, 2015 (UTC)

You didn't exactly mess up because it still works. Just letting you know about another way that is usually done. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 18:54, July 14, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Thank you[edit source]

Any time! As always, you can ask me if you can't figure something out. I will help you out. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 21:54, July 16, 2015 (UTC)

RE: Community Discussions[edit source]

Hi. I'm not Icemandeaf, but I really wanted to answer your question: [can I] participate in the Community Discussions or do I have to wait for a certain period of time?

The answer is: YES! You can participate in the community discussions at any time! Anyone can participate in these discussions, even when not logged in! In fact we want everyone to participate in these discussions and there is no policy restricting users from participating in it. Being bold is a big step to improving this wiki and while it is daunting, it must be done. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 19:16, July 18, 2015 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your answer K6ka!! That is the answer I so wanted to hear. I'm going to put in my vote for the community discussions right now. Thank you SO much again. S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 19:19, July 18, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Community Discussions[edit source]

By all means, you can participate in the discussions. In fact, I am glad to see that you have already. There is no "waiting period" for when someone can participate in community discussions. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 14:44, July 19, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Question About Reverted Edits[edit source]

Unless you had someone leave you a message on your talk page about those edits, I doubt they were any serious problems. People are humans and make mistakes. It happens to the best of us. I have had my own edits reverted at times from time to time as well. The important thing is to learn from the mistake you made and try to be better next time. That's the path to becoming a good editor. And by the way, I did have a good weekend which was pretty full. That is why I wasn't around much, but I'm back now. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 16:51, July 20, 2015 (UTC)

I'll add on to this. Sometimes it's not even a mistake, it's just a difference of opinion between one editor and another editor. If your edit is reverted (and isn't rolled back), then the editor that reverted it should give a reason why in their edit summary, which is viewable in the page's history. If you disagree with their reversion, you should take it up with them on their user talk page, or you can start a discussion on the article talk page. But as Icemandeaf said, if they didn't warn you, then you're not going to be in trouble. On top of that, it's clear that you're acting in good faith, so even if you made a mistake it would be treated as a mistake, not a malicious act. - LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 17:19, July 20, 2015 (UTC)
Thank you both so much. I did not receive any messages on my wall regarding the edits, but there was an edit summary detailing where the mistake was. I made a mistake in linking on two articles. I'm so relieved that I'm not going to be in trouble. I was worried about that all morning. I am trying, so I'm glad that if I mistake, I won't be in huge trouble. Thank you both again. I really appreciate the help and advice. S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 17:26, July 20, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Black Backgrounds[edit source]

The profile pictures in the Sims 2 automatically come with black backgrounds. The Sims 3 and later is different from what I understand. Here is a guide on how to get head shots of Sims from various games. And don't worry about asking me questions; I am here to help. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 23:50, July 21, 2015 (UTC)

Thank you so very much! Now I know how to do that, thanks to the link. Like usual, it's easier than I thought. :) S*pphir3 St*rdust (talk) 00:31, July 22, 2015 (UTC)
No problem. The hard work is usually already completed by someone else. I just point you to where that is so that you can learn it yourself. :) -- Icemandeaf (talk) 01:04, July 22, 2015 (UTC)

Congrats[edit source]

Hello Sapphire Stardust. I noticed that you reached 500 edits. That's really an achievement and I'm happy that you are editing, because you're edits are really helpful. I should watch out, because maybe you will have more edits than me in 3 days. :P Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 15:51, July 25, 2015 (UTC)

"Link fixing"[edit source]

Hi S*pphir3 St*rdust. While running K6kaBOT, I noticed that I kept going back to the same pages to fix the same errors I had fixed just a few days earlier. When I checked the page history, it seems you had attempted to "fix" the links the bot fixed.

The most common links you're changing are:

marrying to marrying

And:

skills to skills

Neither of these changes have any visible effect on the outcome of the page, but links are generally shortened to the way they are in order to improve readability and reduce clutter. For example, it is easier to write (and read) Executions than it is for Executions.

This is listed as Error #64 on Check Wikipedia's list of errors in which a piped link has identical text before and after the pipe. This is redundant and can safely be removed. For example, link can simply be written as link, and links can be written as links. Automated wikitext fixer tools like the one I run on K6kaBOT automatically correct this problem.

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 21:15, July 27, 2015 (UTC)

You don't have to, because my bot just fixed them all ^_^ . Thank you for offering, though. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 22:06, July 27, 2015 (UTC)

An award for you![edit source]

You've worked very hard for the wiki, and that has not gone unnoticed by myself and your other fellow editors on this website. Here's an award for all the work you have contributed to this wiki! Feel free to add it to your user page, like I myself have added my awards here. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 00:11, July 29, 2015 (UTC)

AWARDS

Re: Progress[edit source]

It appears to me that you have been doing well with adding links. I know that K6ka mentioned that there were some issues related to preferred wiki style links (i.e. marrying vs marrying). I have no sage advice on how to improve what you have been doing. If you notice something else that you would like to help on the wiki with but aren't sure how, just ask. I would be more than willing to help in any way that I can. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 18:37, August 6, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Name Change[edit source]

I am not surprised at all. :-) I'm sorry that I haven't been very active on the wiki lately, but I am still around. Looks like you are doing quite well. As always, if you have any questions, just ask. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 02:06, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

Approved nomination for rollback[edit source]

Congratulations on your successful nomination for rollback! Thought I might give you a short introduction on the rollback tool.

Rollback is a feature of the MediaWiki software that runs many websites, namely Wikipedia and Wikia. It allows all consecutive edits made by one user to be undone in one click.

What rollback does. Rollback only works on the latest edit (current revision) in an article. If you click on rollback, it acts immediately. Instructing the server to perform rollback will revert all consecutive edits made by one user to the last revision not made by that user. For instance, if User A made 6 edits in a row to The Sims 2, and no one else edited after them, using rollback will revert all 6 of those edits to the last edit not made by User A.

When to use it. Because rollback does not allow for a custom edit summary, it should only be used for obvious vandalism. It should not be used to revert good faith edits or edits that have good intentions. If a good faith edit needs to be reverted, use the undo function or manually revert the edit and provide an explanation in the edit summary.

You can use rollback to:

 • Revert obvious vandalism
 • Revert your own edits (AKA self-reverting)
 • Revert edits in your own userspace (e.g. your userpage or your user talk page)
 • Revert a large amount of edits that are deemed unhelpful, such as a malfunctioning bot, as long as an explanation is posted somewhere, perhaps at the talk page of the bot.

What if I accidentally click it? It happens, because rollback works instantly. If you do accidentally rollback an edit you didn't intend to revert, just manually revert the edit and explain it was a mistake.

What else do I do after reverting vandalism? It's not strictly required, but it would be appropriate to warn the vandal on their user talk page. You can either use a hand-written warning or, now that you are a rollbacker, you can use the pre-made warning templates.

Have any questions? You can ask me at my my talk page.

Thanks, and enjoy your new toy! --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 23:31, August 23, 2015 (UTC)

RE:Thank You[edit source]

Thanks for your message, it really made my day. I have to admit, when I'm also not feeling like editing, I see you making so much edits, that I also want to keep up with your edits. Have a nice day! xD -- Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 16:56, August 28, 2015 (UTC)

I made a signature for you[edit source]

Hello Sapphire. Look, I made a signature for you! I hope you like it :). If not, you don't have to use it ;). But if you like it you could use it. I'm not the best at making signatures, this was the best I could do xD. You could also ask me or another user to modify it. This is my gift for you because of your 2,000 edits! :). (If you want to use it, go to your preferences, then go to signature, enable wikitext and then copy paste this, enjoy!). Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 06:38, August 30, 2015 (UTC)

Sapphire Moondust (talk)

Hello! I'm glad you like it :). I had this problem once, but I didn't know what it was. You could ask Icemandeaf what's wrong with it, I'm not the best at signatures :(. I'm so happy you like it!!! :D Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 14:44, August 30, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Signature[edit source]

It looks like you had some html coding errors. Try using this:

<span style="text-shadow:purple 0px 2px 2px;color:purple">Sapphire</span> <span style="text-shadow:yellow 0px 2px 2px;color:yellow">Moondust</span> (<font color="#0000CD">talk</font>)

Let me know how that works. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 15:19, August 30, 2015 (UTC)

Glad to help. It looked like you had some stray font tags, which I removed. I'm glad it worked. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 15:25, August 30, 2015 (UTC)

Featured Editor[edit source]

Congratulations Sapphire! You are the Featured Editor for September 2015! I've added the template to your user-page which you are free to move/remove. Once again, congratulations! :) ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 06:06, September 2, 2015 (UTC)

Your message to Icemandeaf[edit source]

Hello Sapphire. You don't have to feel like crying inside. You're a great editor! Those edits aren't worthless. Because adding (multiple) links to articles is very great! Because then the user who is reading the article can click on more links and then he/she can explore more pages on the Wiki. You actually helped many users to explore more articles by adding links to pages, that's how I see it and that's my motivation to make more minor edits. Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 13:51, September 3, 2015 (UTC)

"wher are the swords"[edit source]

Hey there! Thank you so much for defending me against that not-so-kind comment the other day, that was really sweet of you. :) When I got here it was already deleted, but luckily I can see it in my notifications.

"if this is a sword family wher are the swords idot."

I'm going to print this line on a T-shirt one day. Pure golden.

Breira Talk 15:10, September 3, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Progress or not?[edit source]

Your edits are not anywhere near worthless. They might be minor and therefore not bring much notice to some people, but worthless they are not. If you would like to do something else in addition, go for it. If you don't know how, just ask. :-)

And what is this comment that you are talking about? -- Icemandeaf (talk) 15:51, September 3, 2015 (UTC)

Oh, Sims2Player showed me the comment. I can understand why you two felt the way that you did. Nikel23 was explaining why he didn't add his vote, which was that he felt that a Featured Editor should show ability to do more types of edits and gave some advise of what types of edits to do. He didn't mean to make either of you feel bad, but wanted to make both of you even better editors. So take it as a challenge to try out some of those types of edits that he mentioned. Spread your wings and soar even higher! -- Icemandeaf (talk) 16:06, September 3, 2015 (UTC)
True, I know what you mean about there not being much to edit, or so it would seem. That is partly why you don't see me making a whole lot of edits. In the mean time, making the edits that you are making does give you the opportunity to be able to come across something that does need more than a typo fix here and a link added there. Another thing you could do is ask Nikel what edits he feels need to be done. Maybe he has a list.
Also, I notice that you have been using Visual Editor to make your edits. I would like you to try using the source editor. Get used to using that so that you can broaden your skill in editing some more. If you need some help with it, just let me know. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 17:45, September 3, 2015 (UTC)
Really? That is interesting. I was under the impression that you couldn't "switch" between VE and source editor. Are you sure you aren't talking about the Classic Editor? Here are some help links about the various editors. Help:VisualEditor and Help:Classic editor -- Icemandeaf (talk) 18:01, September 3, 2015 (UTC)
No worries. I would be worried if you truly weren't using VE and Wikia was saying that you were. That would mean something was truly wrong, but it wouldn't be the first time that something like that has happened. Regardless, I hope that you will take the challenge to get used to the source editor. -- Icemandeaf (talk) 18:11, September 3, 2015 (UTC)

The To-do List[edit source]

Hello! I have a question. Could I help you with the to-do list? Or you help me? :P. But we could really improve them pages and then we both did it. What do you think of that? I think it would be a great idea to help eachother! Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 13:43, September 4, 2015 (UTC)

Well, the first three sections are piece of cake for me. But then it gets black for my eyes (Dutch and English combined xD). I did do some rabbit hole infoboxes. Then I improved the Criminal career article. I guess we should start with the intermediate to-do's and then we could try do some more difficult ones. Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 13:52, September 4, 2015 (UTC)
Haha, I understand your feelings. I was also nervous when I started editing pages on the Wiki. I was new and I didn't understand editing so I was afraid they would think I'm a newbie. But I started learning the roped and watching other users how they were editing. I consider myself as an average editor, I know how to edit pages but I'm not perfect at editing. Nobody is perfect. But I can see very much potential in you. More than me actually. Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 14:00, September 4, 2015 (UTC)
You look up to me? That's really nice :). But yo know why you have to make more advanced edits? If you make a mistake, you will learn from it. That's how I see it. You could make your own sandbox to practice advanced editing, like I also did. You could practice advanced editing in there and when you feel ready you could try it on Wikia pages. I'm so happy to help you! :D Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 14:12, September 4, 2015 (UTC)
I created a sanbox for you. User:Sapphire Moondust/Sandbox. You can practice there and become a great editor (Which you are right now). Happy editing!!!!! :) :) :) Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 14:30, September 4, 2015 (UTC)

You're welcome. I wanted you to gain some experience by having those rights. If you have those rights and you have any questions you can ask me, C.Syde65 or Icemandeaf how to use them good. Or do you already know how to use them? then you're good. ;) Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 15:52, September 12, 2015 (UTC)
