While not included in the base game, vampires are included in The Sims 3: Late Night expansion pack as well as a theme pack for The Sims 3 iPhone. Before the Late Night expansion is released, using CAS, players can create a Sim with a pale skin, red eyes, and (with Custom Content) protruding teeth, for a vampire-looking Sim.

Late Night

This section describes features that are only available in The Sims 3: Late Night.

A vampire feeding from the wrist of a Sim.

Vampires are social creatures of the night. They are inspired by the more popular intrepretation of vampires of the late 90s and 2000s as opposed to the more classicly-inspired vampires of The Sims 2[1]. They have certain powers which sets them aside from normal Sims, but they also have certain disadvantages. Vampires are not immortal, though they tend to live longer than normal Sims (about 15 days longer for an adult on the normal setting)[2]

Their appearance has been described as unearthly with a slightly pale purple skin tone, fangs and blood-shot eyes[3].

A vampire's Hunger motive is replaced with thirst. It works in the same way, but can only be filled by eating Plasma, the sim-equivelant of blood. Plasma comes from feeding on Sims, the Plasma Fruit or Plasma packs[4]. In order to feed from a Sim, the vampire must ask permission and generally have good relations with the Sim[5]. A desperate vampire can even go to the local Hospital to get Plasma[6]. Vegetarian vampires are limited to the Plasma Fruit[6].

To feed from other Sims, the vampire needs to ask permission[citation needed]. A high relationship score helps. Other Sims reply with funny messages[2]. A newly fed vampire gets the "Snacks blood" moodlet which gives +50 mood[2].

All other Motives function like they do for normal Sims. Vampires also still need to sleep (which they prefer doing during the day). Unlike vampires in Nightlife, the Late Night vampires do not neccesarily sleep in coffins. A new bed is available which reportedly is "Quite haunting"[5]

Sims near a vampire they do not know will suffer from a "Hunted" moodlet[3].

Sims can become vampires by having a high relationship score with a vampire and then ask them to make them a vampire[4]. It will take two days from a bite till a Sim becomes a vampire[7].

Finding a vampire might be tricky[citation needed], but it has been said it might be easier to find them at The Plasma 501[8], the secret vampire bar[5]. The bar might be located in a skyscraper[6]

If a vampire wishes to become a normal Sim again, they can go to the Science lab, which has an anti-vampirism potion[6]

Vampire children

Vampirism is inherited. If two vampires have a child it is certain that the child will become a vampire. If a normal Sim and vampire have a baby, it has a 50% chance of being a vampire[4]. The vampire genes will not reveal themselves until the child enters their teen[6] or young adult[9] life stage and until then the child acts like a normal Sim (eg. eating normal food)[10].

A preview reports that despite children not being vampires yet, they can still bite their teddies[11]

Vampire powers

  • Enhanced motives[12]
  • Hunt - Gives Sims a thermal aura around them[13] which reveals which Sim has the best plasma[12]. This also gives them a tag in the map view[3].
  • Make Sim think of you - Makes a target Sim think of you[13], which makes them like you more[3]
  • Super speed and endurance - Can dash from one point to another in few seconds with little effort[8]. Vampires move at "Speed 5" [2].
  • Learn skills faster - Vampires can learn skills faster, but only at night[6]
  • Persuade - Vampires can persuade other Sims to perform certain tasks[2].

Vampire weaknesses

  • Thirst - Instead of hunger[4].
  • Sunlight - Vampires in sunlight will get blisters on their body and eventually lose their powers until nighttime[6][3]
  • Garlic - Unknown effect[5], but it can make the vampire sick[2].
