Bert Alto is a pre-made Sim, living in Hidden Springs, hiding from his past. Bert used to be the accountant for Bridgeport celebrities, however he never really liked the job and moved away to Hidden Springs, with his dubious fortune. It is also speculated that he is hiding from his brother named Nick, or his previous clients. This suggests he was corrupt. His dubious ways of earning money through his Mooch trait and possible corruption match his real passion and new career, Criminal, in which he is employed as a Thug, with 2 points in Athletic which is 4 points away from the level required for a promotion.

Ironically, while Bert is the only member of his immediate family to work in the Criminal career, he also happens to lack either the Mean-Spirited or Evil traits possessed by his brother and sister-in-law.

When first played, Bert is 13 days from becoming an elder. Bert is friends with the rich couple, Renauld and Catarina Vanderburg; distant friends with Pierce Shawkti; acquaintances with Genevieve Colby, Gabriella Ornales, Roberto Vega, Maya Abbot, Anna Menon, Laila Al Fahad, and his boss, Han Chang. In spite of having a huge fortune, Bert's house is relatively small, proportionally.

While Bert has light brown hair and moustache, he has grey hair on the sides and black roots and eyebrows. This could imply that his natural hair color is black, and that his hair was dyed light brown and is starting to turn grey.

Aside from his brother Nick, and niece Holly, Bert has potential relatives in Lunar Lakes, Sunlit Tides, and Isla Paradiso. He is mentioned in Lola Lancaster's biography, a Sim from Lucky Palms, hinting to a possible romantic involvement.
