Like many names in The Sims universe, they can be a play on words relating to the type of object(s) they sell. They may also be plays on the names of real-world companies.

Several fictional car brands are included. Some examples are Yomoshoto, a sedan manufacturer, Vorn, which produces the P238 and the Stallion in The Sims 3, and the luxury, supercar brands Hwang Motors and Margaret.
