Fireplaces are Build Mode objects found in The Sims, The Sims 2, The Sims 3 and The Sims 4. In The Sims and The Sims 2, they raise the Room/Environment score. In The Sims 3 and The Sims 4, they give the cozy fire moodlet. However, they can cause fires if flammable objects - or Sims - are too close to them. Fireplaces usually need to be placed along walls, but The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 also have free-standing fireplaces. Some fireplaces have mantels, which can hold small objects.

The Sims[edit | edit source]

All fireplaces in The Sims must be placed against a wall. Only adults may light them.

For a list of fireplaces in The Sims, see Fireplace/The Sims.

The Sims 2[edit | edit source]

Fireplaces in The Sims 2 are modular objects. When placed, a chimney will branch upward from the fireplace base, going up until it reaches the highest floor or the roof. Unlike The Sims, all fireplaces do not need to be placed against a wall.

All fireplaces have the same fire safety warning in their description:

Fire Safety Warning: Take care not to place anything flammable too near the fireplace in case an errant cinder jumps the line.

For a list of fireplaces in The Sims 2, see Fireplace/The Sims 2.

The Sims 3[edit | edit source]

In The Sims 3, fireplaces are modular objects, consisting of chimney pieces alongside the fire itself. Chimneys cannot be recolored. Cheap fireplaces can be upgraded to become fireproof or change their fire color, while the expensive types are purchased fully upgraded. Daredevil Sims can 'play with fire', which almost always sets the Sim on fire. Mummies fear fire because they are very flammable, they will get the "scared" moodlet if a fire is lit in the same room as them, and they autonomously try to put fires out. Mermaids will get the "Drying Up" moodlet when near a fireplace. Fires can cause a variety of moodlets:
