Beds are objects in The Sims that increase a Sim's energy, comfort and decrease stress^[TS3]. Both single and double beds can be found in buy mode under "Bedroom" or "Comfort". Cribs serve the same purpose for babies and toddlers in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. In The Sims 4, babies use a bassinet and toddlers use special toddler beds. They can be found under "Kids". Single beds will only fit one Sim, while a double bed can fit two, but the two Sims will only sleep together if they have a good relationship. Kids will sleep together regardless, although they will not sleep together if one or the other is in their undies.^[TS2]

Price

Beds come in a range of prices from cheap to expensive. In general, more expensive beds do a better job of restoring energy and comfort. Also in The Sims 3 and The Sims 4, sleeping in cheap beds will sometimes give Sims negative moodlets when they wake up.

In The Sims Life Stories, there is a §9,000 bed that is only unlocked in story rewards for Riley. This bed is called the "Fertillinator", and will increase the chance of success when trying for a baby.

Interactions

Beds, typically and foremost, are used for Sims to sleep in. When a Sim is directed or becomes tired, they will head to their claimed, If not accessible - nearest, bed and will change to their sleep wear before getting in. In The Sims 2, there are two types of sleep wear (PJs and Undies) for the player to direct a Sim to sleep in, which they may dress into random autonomously. In The Sims 3, Sims can nap in beds, which allows them to sleep in their current clothing wear and satisfy their need slightly to keep them energized a little bit for the day.

In The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, Sims can "Relax" on a bed, and will often do so autonomously to fulfill their comfort motive alone. When a Sim relax, they'll continue to lay down even when they're motives drop to low.^[TS2] In The Sims 2, while relaxing Sims can read a book, watch TV from or just daydream. They also fulfill their social motive when other Sims around are relaxing as well. Although The Sims 4 no longer features the interaction, a similar equivalent lets a Sim seat on the ledge of a bed.

In The Sims 3, Sims can jump in and out of the coverlet, to fall asleep after relaxing or vice versa without leaving the bed.

In The Sims 2, Playful Sims and children can jump on beds for fun.

In The Sims 2, The Sims 3, and The Sims 4, double beds are one of the objects in which Sims can WooHoo or try for a baby.

In The Sims 3: Supernatural, children can check for monsters under a bed during nighttime. There's a 60% chance that they will see glowing red eyes or a monster's arms sticking out, which will give them "Monsters Under the Bed" moodlet, and possibly "Terrified" moodlet, which is more likely to be gained if Sims have the coward, neurotic, easily impressed, or supernatural skeptic traits. While having the "Monsters Under the Bed" moodlet, children will not sleep on the bed the monster is from. Children will not get the moodlet if they have the "Someone to Watch Over Me" moodlet, which is gained by being promised protection by older Sims who are on the same lot. On the other hand, if the children don't find any monsters under the bed, they will get "No Monsters" moodlet, which will boost their energy need while sleeping.

Beds are considered to be "owned" by a Sim in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 when they are the first Sim to sleep in it after purchase. Sims will usually autonomously choose to sleep in that bed when tired, or will often run to that bed when they witness one of their parents fighting.^[TS2] Sims have sometimes been known to "forget" which bed belonged to them.^[1] In The Sims 3: University Life, the player can manually choose which bed belongs to which Sim; this feature comes in handy with dormitories, as it will prevent other Sims from sleeping in a Sim's bed.

Monsters return to The Sims 4 with Patch 36, in which they will spontaneously wake children up, giving them an uncomfortable moodlet that prevents them from sleeping for a while. They can be warded off by spraying monster repellent or installing the "Defender" lamp in the room. Sims may also attempt to befriend the monster.

Bed types

Single beds

Single beds are one of the two main types of beds in The Sims series. One single bed has a size of 1x3 and will only fit one Sim.

Double beds

Double beds are the second main type of bed in The Sims series. A double bed can fit two Sims, but they will only sleep together if they have a good relationship. Kids will sleep together regardless, although they will not sleep together if one or the other is in their undies.^[TS2]

Bunk beds

Bunk beds are a type of bed in which two single beds are stacked on top of another, allowing for the beds to occupy the floor space usually required by just one. They can usually only be used children. The Sims Online was the first game overall to feature bunk beds, but The Sims 3: Generations is the first expansion in the main series to include them. Sometimes, Sims who wake up in the top bunk can be very daring and jump off.

Bunk beds are currently exclusive to The Sims 3, but a few custom content creators for The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 4 have made working ones for those games.

Loft beds

Just like with bunk beds, they come with The Sims 3: Generations and may in various CC for other games. The only difference theseones have from bunk beds, there's only one bed that's on the top, leaving the unoccupied space below for other objects (like for a desk or a drawer).

Murphy beds

Murphy beds are a type of bed introduced in The Sims 2: Apartment Life and reintroduced in The Sims 3: University Life. They fold into the wall to save space and unlike double beds, Murphy beds take a 2x4 size, with the extra space to folds the bed.

However, unlike real-life Murphy beds, the space used by an opened bed is still considered to be in use when the bed is closed. While Sims are able to walk through that space, objects cannot be placed in that space without using the moveobjects cheat.

Special beds

Fertillinator

Vampiric

Although vampires can sleep in regular beds, they have their own specialized beds allocated to their nature kind needs. These are much more beneficial and practical for catering their slumber necessity. This is particularly prominent in The Sims 2 Nightlife, as their needs decline rapidly during daytime, killing the vampire If he or she isn't directed to sleep in the coffin in time.

The Sims 3: Late Night added a new type of bed, the Vampiric Sanctum. This bed is in the shape of a coffin and can only be used by vampires. At one end of the bed there is a bottle of sunscreen lotion and a cracked mirror. There is also a picture of the The Magical Freezer Bunny on the front end and a moon on the bottom end. Vampires will receive the "Slept Like the Dead" moodlet from using this bed.

Hover beds

The Sims 3: Generations added a hover bed as a lifetime reward. It is a floating double bed for the Sim which gives them an additional +10 moodlet.

The Sims 4: Get Famous introduced a sleeping pod, which can float like a hover bed. However, it functions more similarly to a dream pod.

The Sims 3: Into the Future added a new special type of bed, called a dream pod. Unlike other beds, a dream pod can change a Sim's life by providing a unique dream, which grants the Sim special effects when they wake up.
