A toy is an object that young Sims can play with in The Sims series. Some toys increase skills or secret skills.

Toys in The Sims[edit | edit source]

There is a toy box in buy mode which has a Fun rating of 2, and can only be used by children. Makin' Magic adds a pink toy box that occasionally dispenses Fairy Dust, which is a magic ingredient for kids. There is the Urchineer Train Set by Rip Co., which is a scaled-down kid's model of the adult train set. There is also the Will Lloyd Wright Dollhouse, which can be used by one or more Sims.

Toys in The Sims 2[edit | edit source]

In the base game, there is a toy box in buy mode, and some expansion packs and stuff packs have toy boxes. All toy boxes are the same except for appearance, and have a Fun rating of 7. Children and toddlers who have learned to walk can use the "Play With Toys" interaction to get toys from the box and play with them; non-walking toddlers can play with a toy if an older Sim gets it out of the box. The Will Lloyd Wright Dollhouse returns, and there is a teddy bear that children and toddlers can play with. Also, toddlers have special skill-building toys that only they can use, though older Sims can play with toddlers who are using them.

In The Sims 2: Open for Business, Sims can craft toys at the toy making station, or can buy toys that other Sims have made. In general, these toys can be used by older Sims, though the Twirl, Spin, and Wobble! can only be used by toddlers and children. Toy robots can be made at the robot crafting station.

Toys in The Sims 3[edit | edit source]

Toy Stove, used by children to cook.

Toys in The Sims 3 generally raise the fun motive. A few toys let toddler and child Sims learn skills that they normally could not, but the skill is usually capped far below its upper limit for these life stages. There is no dedicated skill for toy making, however Sims can use the Inventing skill introduced in The Sims 3: Ambitions, and the The Titanic Toy Machine from The Sims 3 Store to construct toys.

In most cases only young Sims can use toy objects, however Sims with the Childish trait can also use most toys.
