This section describes features that are only available in The Sims 3: Late Night.

While not included in the base game, vampires are included in The Sims 3: Late Night expansion pack as well as a theme pack for The Sims 3 iPhone. Before the Late Night expansion was released, using CAS, players could create a Sim with a pale skin, red eyes, and (with Custom Content) protruding teeth, for a vampire-looking Sim.

Vampires are social creatures of the night. They are inspired by the more popular interpretation of vampires of the late 90s and 2000s as opposed to the more classically-inspired vampires of The Sims 2[1]. They have certain powers which sets them aside from normal Sims, but they also have certain disadvantages. Vampires are not immortal, unlike The Sims 2, though they tend to live longer than normal Sims (about 100 days longer for a young adult on the normal setting)[2]

Their appearance is comprised of a paler, slightly glowing, layer over their normal skin tone (no set vampire skin tone), fangs and glowing eyes. They also have the bite mark on their necks. [3].

A vampire's hunger motive is replaced with thirst. It works in the same way, but can only be filled by eating Plasma, the Sim-equivalent of blood. Plasma comes from feeding on Sims, the Plasma Fruit or Plasma packs[4]. In order to feed from a Sim, the vampire must ask permission and generally have good relations with the Sim[5]. A desperate vampire can even go to the local Hospital or nearest shopping center and choose to raid and receive Plasma but should watch out as they might get caught[6]. Vegetarian vampires are limited to the Plasma Fruit[6].

To feed from other Sims, the vampire needs to ask permission. A high relationship score helps. Other Sims reply with funny messages[2]. Feeding off of a random Sim or eating a Plasma Fruit at least nice quality gives the vampire a +15 Moodlet, while feeding off of a Sim who is the vampire's prey or eating a perfect Plasma Fruit gives a +50 Moodlet.

All other Motives function like they do for normal Sims. Vampires also still need to sleep (which they prefer doing during the day). Unlike vampires in Nightlife, the Late Night vampires do not necessarily sleep in coffins, but a vampire bed is available which reportedly is "Quite haunting" (see above)[5].They cost 2,500 Simoleons, but vampires can sleep on public ones such as those in the basement of Plasma 501 . Vampires can also sleep in normal beds and when doing so, the letter 'V' will appear instead of the normal 'Z'. If the bed is of sufficient quality, the vampire will also recieve the "Slept Like the Dead" moodlet.

Sims near a vampire they do not know will suffer from a "Hunted" moodlet[3] that takes away -10 Mood. Sims that are vampires get a moodlet at night that gives them +15 Mood and accelerated skill building.

Sims can become vampires by befriending with a vampire and then asking them to make them a vampire[4]. If a Sim asks a vampire to bite them before they become friends, the vampire will refuse. It will take two to three days until a Sim becomes a vampire[7].

Finding a vampire isn't too hard, but most are found at The Plasma 501 [8], the vampire bar which is located in a huge skyscraper, right in the heart of the town. Sims can come in too but they need to bribe their way in unless they have the celebrity status of 2[6].

If a vampire wishes to become a normal Sim again, they can go to the science lab, which has an anti-vampirism potion, however it costs 3,000 Simoleons.[6]

The vampires bite in different places, on the the wrist of a friend and on the neck of a lover.

Vampires can't drink Plasma from children, ghosts, mummies, pregnant Sims or SimBots.[1]

There is a one-in-four chance that a Sim will be turned into a vampire on the first bite, and a 50/50 chance on a second bite.[2] It takes about around three days to become a vampire after the bite. There is a moodlet for the bite. Vampire bite marks are visible on a Sim's skin for several days.

Plasma boosts all of a Vampire's motives except for Bladder.[3]

If a Sim who a celebrity and a vampire bites someone in public the Paparazzi will find out and start a scandal about the bite. The Vampire Celebrity will get a new negative moodlet and will have to either go to City Hall and sue to get rid of the moodlet, which is not always successful and could end up making the Sim lose money from legal fees, or to buy off the Paparazzi for 3,000 Simoleons.

Drinking from a Sim will not turn them into a vampire; only if they accept "offer to turn" will it turn them into a vampire. SimBots and Mummies can not be Vampire hybrids.

If a Vampire sleeps in the Cursed Sarcophagus of the Kings 3 times, it will replace one of the Vampire's traits with the Evil trait.

While transforming into a Vampire (with the "Unusual Blemish" Moodlet) the Sim will be unable to travel overseas.

Vampire Children

Unlike vampirism in Nightlife, vampirism in Late Night is genetic, and will be inherited at a 100% rate for vampire couples, and a 50% for Vampire-Sim couples.

These children are vampires from birth and can not be cured until they are young adults. They age at a normal rate until they transition into young adults. Their appearance is that of a young adult vampire, their skin is pale and their eyes glow like that of a full grown vampire.

When they become toddlers, they will learn from toddler toys at a higher rate, but learn talking, walking, and potty training at the regular rate. They will also bite their teddy bears while they play with them.

When they become children, they have the enhanced skill gain, but no other vampire powers. They also eat normal food, can eat garlic, and can spend days outside. They can eat plasma-packs from the fridge at this age as well. They keep this power-set through the teen life-state, and obtain the rest of their powers at the young adult stage.

When a teenager of vampiric parentage grows up into a young adult, the cloud of stars is red instead of multi-coloured.

If a young adult of vampiric parentage cures their vampirism at the Science Station, they retain their extra fast skill gaining ability, but lose all other powers. Other vampires are also unable to drink from these sims.

Vampire Powers

  • Enhanced motives [9]
  • Hunt - Gives Sims a thermal aura around them[10] which reveals which Sim has the best plasma[9]. This also gives them a tag in the map view[3]. When a Vampire has a target, they will get a wish to drink from that Sim.
    Vampire Hunting
  • Make Sim think of you - Makes a target Sim think of the vampire[10], which makes them like him/her more[3]. This is also greyed out for a certain amount of time after used.
  • Read mind - Reveals a trait of target Sim,[10][9] their career, star sign, relationship status, or favorites[2]. This is also greyed out for a certain amount of time after used.
  • Super speed and endurance - Can dash from one point to another in few seconds with little effort[8]. Vampires move at "Speed 5"[2], at this speed a motion blur can be seen around the Vampire.
  • Super strength - While working out, vampires will not get fatigued and can break space rocks with ease.
  • Learn skills faster - Vampires can learn skills faster, but only at night. If a Vampire gets the Speedy Learner Lifetime reward, however, it does not make this accelerated skill gain any faster during night time, it only aids during the day.[6]
  • Persuade - Vampires can persuade other Sims to perform certain tasks[2]

Vampire Weaknesses

  • Thirst - Instead of hunger[4]. If the Madly Thirsty moodlet ticks down to 0, a haunting chord will play in the background, the vampire will hold their throat and eventually disintegrate, into ash. Then the ghost appears black with a red pulsating light where the heart would be, and the Grim Reaper appears normally. The Sim will still be a vampire.
  • Sunlight - Vampires can go out in the sunlight for a certain amount of time before getting the "Heating Up" moodlet, it will last for 3 hours, then the vampire passes out, then it changes to the "Burning Up" Moodlet. The Sim's Thirst will decrease at a very fast rate till they reach the "Madly Thirsty" Moodlet hits zero and the Vampire perishes. This moodlet will last two days and will remain if the vampire continues to go outside. While in the sun, a sizzling sound is heard and the vampire smokes.[6][3]
  • Garlic -It can make the vampire sick[2]. Eating garlic or drinks with garlic will give a Vampire the Garlic Breath moodlet and will cause them to pass out[4].
  • Sim Food - Vampires can eat Sim food, but it will not satisfy their Thirst moodlet.[5] Eating normal food will cause a Vampire to become nauseous. If a vampire eats normal food made with plasma fruit, such as plasma fruit pancakes, their thirst will fill and they won't become naseous.

Trivia

  • It normally takes two or three days for the transformation from Sim to Vampire to complete.
  • Using the "cure" interaction of The Moodlet Manager (if successful) on a Sim who has begun the transformation to Vampire will cause that Sim to instantly become a Vampire.[6]
  • Vampires can also bite the Grim Reaper, though it won't turn him into a vampire. In fact, he won't even get the moodlet.
  • Every time a Vampire is in the Sun and gets the Heating Up moodlet, a wish will appear for the vampire to enter in the shade. If a promise slot is left open the player can constantly gain lifetime happiness for that particular wish after the moodlet is gained.
  • In The Sims 2: Nightlife, Vampires had no mirror image. In Late Night, Vampires reflect normally in mirrors, though the vampires in The Sims 2: Nightlife are inspired by classic folklore, one of which is a story about vampires not being able to reflect onto mirrors.
  • NPC Vampires can be found in neighborhoods other than Bridgeport.
  • Pre-made Vampires in Bridgeport all have black hair with dark red highlights. However, there are two exceptions, the Talon family and Flo-Flo Chique.
