Bug collecting

I have all EP n SP installed. My patch is 1.67

I have my Firefly collecting challenge completed while I have only collect 7 of them, missing blue firefly. I can provide the screen shot if needed. Have you check it yet about the challenge glitch? That's not happened in my game, I fullfilled the challenge—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mega.lucis.caelum (talkcontribs) 02:09 18 July 2014 (UTC) - Please sign your comments with ~~~~

Hi Nikel, there is another glitch with my firefly collecting. I dunno how but now it's seem my firefly collection reset to 0% but in the journal it's stated that my sim collect 27 firefly. So I will try to recollect them again till 7 species then capture the screen and show you.Venus (talk | contribs) 06:28, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Sim vs Simbio

This is going to sound like a stupid question, especially coming from me. I figured if there's anyone who would know, it would be you.

I know that {{Sim}} and {{Simbio}} are used in different situations. But functionally, is there any difference between the Sim and Simbio templates? Like does {{Sim3}} behave or look any different than {{Simbio3}} does? -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 07:02, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

About Mrs. Wainwright's eyecolor (and other's)

Susan Wainwright's eyes are about as blue as they're green to me, thus they're teal. Or aqua or something? It's actually pretty similiar to Aquamarine-colored IIRC. Teal is actually darker and cannot be considered green (it's actually the same color used for Terezi Pyrope's blood-color in Homestuck) and i think it looks more like the eyecolor of Erin Kennedy and Amy Bull. I think they have the same eyecolor and it's a bluish teal. Yet we say Erin's eyes are brown and Amy's are green. But they're both bluish-teal-eyed, and i think Amy's hair highlights also sort-of match. Or at least, the daughter my pure-white-eyed twin founder in the Pokèmasters legacy had with Erin, she had a really similiar eyecolor to Amy, and i guess Erin would be the same. Of course Yveltal A2 Pokèmasters (A2 because her father is Arceus and she's the second generation) might just have gotten a mutant eyecolor... this might make me wanna check, though. Uh, also the Wainwrights are my fave family pratically. (Yes this includes Cycl0n3 too! Cycl41r is my OTP, this would be Cycl0n3 Sw0rd\Blair Wainwright) And i cried for a whole month when i found the EA SP killed Blair Wainwright in one of my savefiles. So i like to describe their colorschemes in a better\poetic way. I'm pretty sure i did not even have the mods to change Erin's eyecolor when she became Togekiss Pokèmasters. And it seemed kind-of blue to me. Of course i might just be wrong. Of course Yveltal might just have broken the fourth wall between neighboorhoods\worlds and got Amy Bull's eyecolor despite me propably not having Ambitions when she was born. I might just go check, not like i already have Erin(Togekiss) and Yveltal saved somewhere, anyway. Okay? Or at least, i have Yveltal saved in there. She does not have her daddy's stark-white-eyes, and if her eye color is not a mutation, then it should be Erin's, right? This is a photo of her as a kid: [1]

Oh, right, maybe i remembered wrong, and due to all the red she wears, and playing a savefile with Amy getting pregnant with Boyd Wainwright's children for storyline reasons, i somehow remembered Yveltal's eyes and thus Erin's, being bluer than they are. But Yv's fave color is cyan, and i could still imagine her and Erin having dark blue\indigo eyes no matter how far from the truth it is. Like how i imagine Cycl0n3 having red eyes. Lifetime wish

I've started a section on Talk:Lifetime wish regarding your back-and-forth with Sims2fan1998. You've already stated that your information comes from the game code; would there be any way you could prove that substantively, so we can put this matter to rest? I have to AGF on their actions, so I don't think they're trying to deliberately add incorrect information to that list. If you could provide proof of what you're saying, though, it would help finally end this conflict. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 08:05, September 9, 2014 (UTC)

Hello Nickel23, this is a question about my constant edits to the pag on LTWs. While you state the writing I keep editing is from an inaccurate source, I would like to ask you what the source is you use. I could not help to notice some fundalmental flaws in what is written. For example, it says the Supernatural Skeptic trait opens up the lifetime wish for Celebrity Physic, when actaully the Supernatural Fan does instead, and it says the genius trait opens up LTWs such as Illustrios Author, Presenting the Private Aquarium, Perfect Garden, ect when actually the trait and LTWs are completely unrelated as I know from experience. I hope this does not sound rude but I just want to know what is written to be 100% true and why.

From Sims2Fan1998.

PS: Why is my name mentioned on your account page, saying it is creepy? I find it innapropriate that my name is there so please could you delete it.

BOYD WAINWRIGHT IS NOT GREYING!!! (Plus he would prolly be capable of inventing something to make his hair not greying anymore if it actually WAS greying, right?)

Boyd Wainwright 's hair is not greying. Really, it is not. Well, of course some people refer to it as greying, but he's just a really light platinum blond. You might think his hair is greying but it is not. Thorton Wolff and Nick Alto and yes Vita too and Gobias are all greying but he does not - of course he's older so he could also be greying too, but i do not think he is? Of course everyone has diff. opinion of a sim's haircolor, like one may think Chase Bayless is blonde one may think she's ash-brown. Blaise Kindle 's hair is colored orange to seem like fire, but some people might call her a ginger. Some people think Molly French has brown hair and some think it's puke-colored, kelp-brown, or olive green. You could even call it the "Wainwright Hair" but that would be a case of "shaped like itself", would it? Kaiko Mikkusu (talk) 14:02, September 24, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, Laurie Lee is just mentioned Sim and won't show up in the game.

I think Angela Gilman is one of ancient member of the Gilman family and I will come with deceased since the game start. I have the Create a Sim demo and those Sims are in the Gallery made by Sim Guru Zephyr. Since they looked exactly the same as the generated ones in CAS and were created by Maxis, I figured that they are the actual Sims in the game. Joey.eyeball (talk) 05:28, October 10, 2014 (UTC)

Link shorteners

Hey Nikel. I've noticed that when you post to The Sims Wiki's Facebook page, you tend to include full page links. In case you didn't know, everything posted to the Facebook page is also instantly relayed to The Sims Wiki's Twitter account (and vice versa). However, Twitter imposes a maximum character count per post of 140 characters. So, if you post a long message on the TSW Facebook page or include a very long web link, the message is often truncated or cut off when it gets posted to Twitter. One way to avoid this issue is to use a url shortener, such as goo.gl or bit.ly. These sites take a standard-length url and shorten it down to a fraction of the length. For instance, bitly reduces the length of the url of this page (http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Nikel23) to "http://bit.ly/1ykkeqR." The effect is even more pronounced when linking to blog posts (e.g., http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Auror_Andrachome/Monthly_Question_-_October_2014 becomes http://bit.ly/1spX3Ju, going from 85 characters long to 21) or other pages with long addresses. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 08:35, October 11, 2014 (UTC)

traits

Hey! I was wondering if I could ask you something, as you helped me lots of times in the past! I was trying to adjust the traits panel in the Sim template of the Dutch Wiki and update it with The Sims 4 information. However I think I messed stuff up now (ehum), and can't really find what I did wrong. It's probably somewhere in the GetTraitLink template, but it might also be somewhere in the GetTraitImage one.. Would you be so kind to take a look for me? Much appreciated! Tiezel (talk) curious? 20:58, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

I've been good thanks! How about you? Yeah the category template is still a big mess, I need to fix that some day anyway, as lots of categories are still wrong. However it's supposed to show the images of the traits, and as well they're still not lining up properly.. I'm not really sure why this is happening :/ Tiezel (talk) curious? 19:28, October 13, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Aspiration as disambiguation page

All done! You can move the page now. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 14:37, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

I left out the Forum namespace in many of my bot tasks, because editing the forum page - even if it's a bot edit - will bump the thread and I can easily crowd out current discussions with four-year-old threads if I'm not careful. I was quite wary of doing so, so I left it out (The {{Unsigned}} template is supposed to be substituted, but I excluded the forum namespace when I was running the bot for that reason so you'll still see transcluded unsigned templates on forum pages). Otherwise I have mostly left things like discussion comments alone, but I can go back and fix it, at your request. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 18:20, October 17, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, more pages fixed! Only a few left like comments (too messy), forum pages (as mentioned above), and other stuff that AWB can't fix, but it should be enough for a disambiguation page. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 20:41, October 17, 2014 (UTC)

Your information on your Sandbox

Apparently LiR insisted on removing this information from my sandbox page. He also left me a message saying that such information in a sandbox was completely unacceptable, could be construed as a personal attack against that user, and was a clear demonstration of a lack of good faith.

I can't speak for anyone else, but given the circumstances, I don't believe that it's a good idea for an admin, like yourself to keep such information in your sandbox either. As far as I'm concerned, a non good faith edit by a non admin is a non good faith edit by an admin.

Especially since I didn't realize that adding information to my sandbox like that was unacceptable, since you as an admin had already done so first. It is common belief that an admin would no better than to add such information to their sandbox.

People have said that a few things that I've done aren't acceptable for a user who wants to become an admin, and I confessed that it was because I'd seen an admin do those things. They said, well an admin should know not to do those things. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:28, October 26, 2014 (UTC)

I'm sorry if I appeared to write in a negative tone, and I certainly don't think that you are an incompetent administrator. Everyone can make mistakes, as an admin or not. I probably understand the concept of being an administrator a lot better than most users think (although probably still worse than what I think).
Until recently, I used a lot of references when editing, like recording confirmed or potential sockpuppets. Despite my success, I have been reprimanded a couple of times for trying to be something I'm not, even after observing the admin issues and having a test wiki for gaining experience with each individual tool.
It would never have occurred me that that practice was unacceptable either. I was already starting to lose interest in the whole ILS5 issue before LiR removed the information from my sandbox. I know you never meant for anyone to do what you did, and I understand your intention, because that was my intention as well.
One of my bad habits is my eagerness to do anything for the wiki, mainly just to show what I'm capable of. I always have a habit of starting big. But I am getting close to fixing those habits. That's one of the reasons I now have a test wiki, to help me improve my already positive editing skills without risking screwing up on a professional wiki. I have understood where some users such as myself go wrong. But the way I see it - we're all wiki editors who have a lot to learn, regardless of experience or how much we may have learned already, because there's never too much. I've learned loads recently and still there's room to learn more. So no harm done. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 10:44, October 26, 2014 (UTC)
Nikel, you don't have to remove that information. My warning to C.syde was regarding this particular edit, because that edit clearly fails to AGF. I also removed his entire entry on ILS5's socks because, as I've told him before, it's none of his business and he shouldn't be involved in investigating sock puppets. As you're an administrator, I don't care about nor do I have a problem with whether you keep such a list. I don't believe your list constitutes lack of good faith, since your list only includes information about socks already blocked and their behavioral tendencies. -- LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 16:50, October 26, 2014 (UTC)
I didn't see that. Was that removed from the history? I didn't check the deletion log. I'm sorry I couldn't think about this issue with a clear mind due to problems irl. I was befuddled. Nikel Talk Vote! 01:36, October 27, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I deleted the revision from the page history so you'll need to use Special:Undelete to view the deleted revision. It is not visible to non-administrators and doesn't appear in the normal page history. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 01:43, October 27, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for the extremetly late reply. What I mean by "Unlinked Relationships" in SimPE, if you go through Lyla and other sims I listed, you click throughout the list of sims, they usually don't have any info about their relationship off to the right. Yes? If you click on one of the sims I listed that that Sim has a "Unlinked Relationships" there will appear relationships points unlink other sims, however their relationship is not linked and won't appear in game. That means they have a "Unlinked Relationship". If you want anymore information please leave me message. Have a good evening. 104.14.12.103 (talk) 23:42, December 8, 2014 (UTC)

Template:Sim2 - Parameters

I noticed that you re-worked a few of my edits to a few pages of Sims from Pets. It appeared that a couple of the parameters of the template I used as a standard were back to front. So I've just swapped them round, so hopefully people won't have to keep changing my edits. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 03:32, December 22, 2014 (UTC)

I'm going to jump in here and say that I was perplexed when I saw C.Syde edit the template to rearrange the parameters; it seemed odd and totally pointless to me, since the order of a template's parameters has no effect on the function of the template. I wasn't aware that pages he had edited were being changed in order to simply re-arrange the parameters on the templates. Is there something here that I'm missing? Like, this edit for instance... removing 'Sim' from the life state parameter makes enough sense, but why go through the trouble of swapping the placement of two parameters? As I said, the parameter organization doesn't affect the function of the template. Is there something here I'm not seeing? -- LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 05:54, December 22, 2014 (UTC)
I seriously don't think there's much point either to be honest. I just thought I'd make those changes to the templates to avoid any future unnecessary changes to the parameters on the Sim pages.
I can understand removing 'Sim' from the life state parameters, and I'm fine with not adding 'Sim' to them in future. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 06:49, December 22, 2014 (UTC)
I know it's pointless. The only reasons I keep rearranging the parameter order are to try to make it consistent with any other Sim articles and to make it apparent which parameters are used twice and which haven't been used yet. In very old Sim articles, they usually used the same parameters multiple times, like body, hair, eyes, and skin. Sometimes they also missed parameters like the family relationships and so on. It's pretty pointless and I only considered it as a personal chore.
As for C.Syde's edit in {{Sim2}}... I'm not sure what you were trying to accomplish. I get what you meant to do, but in case you're wondering, I never used the order in the template itself. I always use the order on the syntax example in the documentation. See? That's what I always base on. {{Sim2}} itself never needed to be touched.
But you DO seem to be aware of it and still edited it anyway. Also, you added two more spaces to the syntax example in the documentation. What for? It has always been that way! If you changed it, it defeated the purpose of what I've been doing all along. Nikel Talk Vote! 07:31, December 22, 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I was just a little confused, that was all. Well, now that I've fully understood why you kept re-arranging the parameters, and which orders you were arranging them in, I can do it that way in future myself. Also at the time I didn't realize that {{Sim2}} was different from the syntax example. So I didn't get why you still changed the parameters.
If you mean by adding two extra spaces to each parameter, it was done so the parameters would all match. If you don't think much of it, it can/could always be changed back. I just thought it looked better. But I don't really care. I'm flexible with whatever suits most other editors. As long as it's consistent and can preferably be done without constantly being re-arranged by more than one editor in a short length of time. Now that I've fully understood all this, I doubt whether there's anything less to be puzzled about. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:58, December 22, 2014 (UTC)
What matters with the two extra spaces to each parameter is that I tried to make it consistent with all other Sim templates as far as I remember. If you added two extra spaces there, you should the same to all other templates. If you could keep the other templates consistent, it's okay.
Honestly, this whole rearranging the Sim template parameters kinda makes me tired. Maybe I should try to care less next time? Nikel Talk Vote! 08:58, December 22, 2014 (UTC)

I was currently on chat at the time, and I just happened to notice him say that. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 05:47, February 1, 2015 (UTC)

Sims 4 Icons

Hey Nikel! I finished extracting all the large icons and waiting for MTS to upload the rar file.

Other than that, I got all the big icons (including the traits, skills, etc.)

UltraGamingKid (talk) 23:32, February 21, 2015 (UTC)

That's great! I'll look forward to it! :) Nikel Talk Vote! 03:54, February 22, 2015 (UTC)

RE: Rf IRC Contact

Yes, I've seen it. Still thinking about it though. I'm not entirely sure about the position because my IRC skills are not very sharp, and I constantly have to Google IRC tutorials just to make sure I don't accidentally ban everyone, or even myself! The channel seems to be getting along just fine without an IRC contact so far, so I'm not sure if this position is even necessary. On the other hand, we can finally allow Lab to retire 100% from The Sims Wiki by taking the position off his shoulders (and to make the books look good). --I am k6ka Talk to me! Your last easter egg edit

Hi.
Any opinion by you to my "question" on the easter eggs talk page? -- CompleCCity (talk) 12:30, July 9, 2015 (UTC)

Just did add those facts onto the page. As I am aware of the sensitivity of easter egg articles, perhaps you could check that … -- CompleCCity (talk) 14:05, July 17, 2015 (UTC)

Hey!

Hello there, it's been so long since I've been on this wiki. I'm like really bored at the moment so I'd enjoy you joining me on the chat. Long Time, No See! JasonThePlum 12:03, July 26, 2015 (UTC)

Sims news blog

Hey Nikel. I know during TS3 times you used to do a lot of Sims game blog writing, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in writing up more of those kinds of articles? For instance, we have The Sims 4: Cool Kitchen Stuff recently announced, so it might be worth writing about. The reason I ask is because I've tried to bring back more regular blogs for these kinds of things, but it's hard to write about every new thing that comes along, and I haven't been terribly inspired to do it (lol). But, the last Sims news blog was for Luxury Party Stuff, so it seems like CKS is a logical thing to write about. Let me know if this is something you'd be interested in. If not, please disregard this. -- LostInRiverview talkblogcontribs 14:09, July 30, 2015 (UTC)

RE: Test wiki

Go ahead! Go ahead! You don't have to ask me to mess up my test wiki :) --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 15:13, July 30, 2015 (UTC)

User blog:Nikel23/Cool Kitchen Stuff - The 3rd Stuff Pack for The Sims 4!

I noticed that you created this blog post but deleted it shortly afterwards because it was empty. That's a known Wikia issue, and despite several bug reports it looks like they still haven't bothered to fix it :/ . It's caused when you hit ⌅ Enter after typing in the title of the blog post. For some reason this causes it to save the edit, instead of taking you to the editor. The solution is to click "OK" instead of hitting ⌅ Enter. --I am k6ka Talk to me! RE: Tagging revision that removes categories and interwiki links

Definitely possible, but few active users on the wiki know how to set up abuse filters. I'll look into it. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 13:54, August 15, 2015 (UTC)

The extension is detailed on MediaWiki.org, available here. When testing new filters, be sure to keep it in "log only" mode (No actions taken, only thing filter does is log in the abuse log) and to monitor Special:AbuseLog to check for false positives. You can also keep it disabled and use the "Test this filter against recent edits" tool instead, which may be better than leaving irremovable entries in the log. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 12:10, August 16, 2015 (UTC)
Well, I procrastinated, but nevertheless I got it done. Special:AbuseFilter/39 should be able to catch edits that remove all categories and interwiki links. Currently it is in log-only mode, but hopefully we can eventually allow it to start tagging edits, and perhaps notifying the user as well (however, Wikia has still disabled editing of MediaWiki pages, so thanks a lot Wikia for the absurd and unhelpful inconvenience). Monitor Special:AbuseLog for false positives. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 21:33, August 31, 2015 (UTC)

Hello, just a question! :)

Hi Nikel23. Do you have a list of like pages that need to be improved or something? I could improve them and maybe improve my grammar and editing skills. Thanks for your help :) Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 17:55, September 3, 2015 (UTC)

I would also like this list. You seem very knowledgeable about editing and we would like your help to become better editors. I would appreciate any help or advice you may have. Thank you. - Sapphire Moondust (talk) 17:58, September 3, 2015 (UTC)
Hello, both of you. I apologize for such a late reply. I don't have any specific list of pages that needs to be looked after. There are several special pages like short pages and orphaned pages that need to be maintained, but it's not anyone's priority to be honest. When I was more active, I used to patrol the Special:RecentChanges to see recent edits. There, I would check someone's edit and see if it needed grammar correction, format correction, link fix, or something. Other times, I would usually just browse around and read until I noticed if anything needed correction. There's no special way to edit, but it's just my insight. Here are some tips that might be helpful:
  • Start from something small. Don't think that, "That user made a lot of edits / huge edit on a page. Do I have to do the same to be an eligible editor?" Don't compare yourself to anyone, and just edit as you enjoy it. It's even better if someone inspires you!
  • Be bold (as LiR would say). If you feel like something needs to be edited, go for it. You don't need to ask anyone's permission to edit. You may want to ask if you're concerned or confused about something.
  • Sometimes you just want to see how other people edit. I know I said not to compare yourself with anyone else, but this could help inspire you how to improve. C.Syde and K6ka are pretty good editors as examples. ^^
I'm sorry that I might not be helpful to you. I'm not very active anymore and couldn't focus on the wiki very much, so I might not be able to respond to you sooner. Nikel Talk Vote! 07:49, September 10, 2015 (UTC)

Nikel

Hello. The list k6ka showed me is not really my cup of tea. I want to add missing information to pages. Sims 2 pages for example. Or missing Sims 2 images. Don't you have a list of that? Sims Player (talk) (mistakes) 07:04, September 12, 2015 (UTC)

RE: Melinda Danders' skin

Yeah, it can sometimes be difficult to tell what eye or skin colour a particular Sim has just by looking at their picture. That's why I check their genetic files to confirm which skin tone a Sim has, if I'm unsure whether the genetic information on the page is correct. It can be particularly deceiving on elders with light or tanned skin since their skin texture is lighter than in the younger life stages.

With the head-shots of Sims, their eye colours can be quite deceiving, especially if the uploaded image is a JPEG, since they don't show up as clear as the PNG images. I've noticed that many users have made errors getting various eye colours mixed up, notably getting dark blue eyes mistaken as brown eyes, and light blue eyes mistaken as grey eyes. In-fact I've made several mistakes with eye and skin colours in the past, and probably would still make many mistakes now, if I didn't check the genetic files. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 05:40, April 26, 2016 (UTC)
