Lights and Hot Date

Hot Date was the first expansion pack I had, so I know it does not make all lights in The Sims unclickable. I know that ceiling lights aren't clickable, and that not all other lights are. It may be that lights included in Hot Date and later EPs behaved differently wrt to being clickable and when they turned on and off, I never looked into it closely enough to see if there was a definite pattern. Still, I do recall that there was variability in how lights behaved, even with Hot Date. Dharden (talk) 19:27, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

OK, I did a little checking, and edited to reflect the idea that Hot Date changed the Maxis lights (except the ones it didn't), and that custom lights may still use the old code and work in the old way. Dharden (talk) 16:08, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

Editing the patch notes

I wouldn't really bother correcting the patch notes since that's what was actually written in the original patch notes at EA's site. This still happens to The Sims 3 patch notes too. But now that you've corrected them, I just want to thank you. :) Nikel Talk Vote! 07:11, July 30, 2013 (UTC)

That's kinda hard to believe, seeing how many typos and "sounds more like bug notes" those patch notes were. Ah well EAxis. You're welcome. K6ka (talk) 14:14, July 30, 2013 (UTC)

TS2 dorm fixes

Thanks for noting those. I'd been using moveobjects to delete stuck tables, then re-buying them. Howver, I am a bit concerned about the DormieAssignmentFix, since the thread mentions no EP above Pets. I know dorm assignments are specific to University, so I wouldn't expect them to change in later EPs -- but we are talking about EA, so I'm not prepared to gamble on that, either. Dharden (talk) 14:51, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

OK, that you use it with all packs is good enough for me. I have a mod that lets me selectively disable free-will assignments on individual lots, but I leave them enabled in dorms. I can deal with dormies leaving assignments, but it annoys me when they forget about them and start new ones. BTW, I did d/l the Director's Cut for FT and noticed a mod called "snapdragonpets", which apparently makes Snapdragon Bouquets affect pets. You know anything about that? Dharden (talk) 19:54, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
It's just that I'd thought snapdragons affected pets. Dharden (talk) 20:59, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for Being Kind

Thanks for being kind for saying that i dont need a acount to edit.I check out meerkat wiki, meerkat fanon wiki, CP wiki,CP pookie wiki.I prefer sims wiki though. I am soooo Desperate for a acount but yeah. Too young. But im very lucky to be in a fanon.

RE: Pollination Technician #9

I've never had a Sim with ten body skills lose a fight against a Sim with zero before, only one body skill. But if it's happened to you...great! C.Syde65 (talk) 01:23, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

Rollback rights

Hi, K6ka! I've nominated you for rollback rights. Please head over to the nomination page and respond the request to accept or decline it. Nikel Talk Vote! 15:35, December 14, 2013 (UTC)

Remove option on Hood Checker

If I use this option, how could I check to see if it broke something while fixing the problems it found? It does warn that it's in testing, and asks about having a backup (something I do regularly), so I have to assume that that is possible. Dharden (talk) 18:55, December 16, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I know corruption can take a while to show. I suppose that'd be just as true if I let things ride as it would be if it broke C and D while fixing A and B. And, as you noted, pre-made neighborhoods are pre-broken anyway. Dharden (talk) 21:30, December 16, 2013 (UTC)

Carpool Drivers

I get it now. You don't want me adding more information about David Thompson such as making him playable because he is one of those object NPCs. Once again I get it now. Even though, carpool drivers have names like townies and NPCs which are safe to make playable.C.Syde65 (talk) 01:26, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

I didn't mean to remove it. When I realized that the page already had a warning header, I deleted the old one and left the one I added. But no harm done. C.Syde65 (talk) 23:12, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

Circe Beaker

Actually it isn't normal. Before I installed my expansion packs, I could click on a specific tile on the footpath. Circe was the only Sim I've encountered that will fail to walk off properly. I think we should keep this statement on her page. C.Syde65 (talk) 22:47, December 27, 2013 (UTC)

Yes it is true what I say. That Circe is the only one, the player is unable to direct to walk off the lot without re-appearing invisible. I played the base game for more than a year before installing my expansion packs. C.Syde65 (talk) 21:44, December 28, 2013 (UTC)

How do you undo revisions? C.Syde65 (talk) 23:41, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

RE: New Information RE: The Sims 2

Well, I'm feeling odd you'd tell me that, because I don't remember ever having extracted Sims via SimPE, or talking about similar topics. But it's an interesting info to hear nonetheless.

Anyway, if you seem to have found the correct way to extract in-game Sims, aren't you going to revise Game Help:Extract In-Game Sim in SimsWiki? Just curious. Nikel Talk Vote! 03:59, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

You're right. For unknown reason, a lot of pages in that wiki are locked. I like that wiki since it explains technical details which sometimes won't fit anywhere in this wiki. On the other hand, that wiki is very poorly-organized. Nikel Talk Vote! 16:56, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

Newcomers

Well, I understand that. But I don't quite understand how you are meant to direct newcomers to do things the right way. Sure, my comments were a bit more harsh than they should have been. Still we are trying to improve the Sims wiki. Once again I'm not quite sure what I'm meant to do (in the first sentence I wrote). I'm aware that you're not meant to write negative comments and I'm not usually known for doing that myself C.Syde65 (talk) 03:36, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

Yes about the newcomers. They haven't changed their positions at all. However they have got some of their facts right. But what does someone have to do put newcomers in the right direction. C.Syde65 (talk) 04:08, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

Request for admin rights

Hi, K6ka! I've nominated you for admin rights. Please visit the request page to accept or decline the nomination. :) Oh, and my message sounds similar to the one I left for you for the rollback rights. Nikel Talk Vote! 06:21, January 24, 2014 (UTC)

Blank Personality tables

Some users have dismissed blank personality tables as being useless. Are they useless, or was I right to add them in the first place? C.Syde65 (talk) 22:36, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

Changing first names in The Sims 2

I would never have suspected that SimPE should not be used to change first names. Maybe there needs to be a list of things SimPE will let you do, but shouldn't be done. Dharden (talk) 02:54, February 4, 2014 (UTC)

Changes to warning template

I've noticed that you have included additional text when using {{Warning}} on IP user talkpages. I've copied that text and added it to the warning itself. The additional text can be triggered by filling the template parameter <ip> with any non-blank text or string. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 01:39, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

I would archive a lot of my messages, but I'm not sure how to do it. C.Syde65 (talk) 06:16, February 7, 2014 (UTC)

Pages / Rollbacking

Man it would be great to make a page with rubbish on it. I know it sounds - and even I think it sounds - stupid. But it would be useful for testing the rollback tool. I recently became a rollback but I've never actually lived up to it. C.Syde65 (talk) 06:16, February 7, 2014 (UTC)

Witch Doctor

I don't think I'll be able to upload the Witch Doctor's headshot myself because I don't have the required expansion pack. C.Syde65 (talk) 02:54, February 18, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Archiving your talk page

I actually plan to archive my talk page once it reaches 50 discussions if that isn't a problem. And when it reaches 50 discussions, I wouldn't mind if you archived it for me. Joey.eyeball (talk) 05:18, February 18, 2014 (UTC)

Preceding unsigned comment

On the battles page in the comments section there is an unsigned comment. I'm not really considering fixing it myself but still I'd want to know how to fix unsigned comments myself in future. C.Syde65 (talk) 05:45, February 18, 2014 (UTC)

Edit on the Sims FreePlay

Hey, I thought you might want to know what this user "162.198.166.68" contributed on the page The Sims FreePlay.

Sims is also the stupidists game on earth and if you are reading this this is a HUGE waste of your time.

I've already rollbacked this bad faith edit, but I just wanted to let you know anyway. C.Syde65 (talk) 01:19, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

That's alright. Although I have warned a few editors about their contributions in the past, I wasn't entirely sure whether a simple warning would stop this editor. C.Syde65 (talk) 01:50, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Okay thanks. C.Syde65 (talk) 02:17, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Featured article and poll

I'm usually the one that changes over the Featured Article and Main Page Poll at the beginning of each month. I've been incredibly busy lately so I haven't had the opportunity to do this, and I don't think I'll get a good chance to do it in the near term. Can you please take over for me in updating these features, or find another user who is able to do so?

Here's the procedure I follow for updating these features:

Featured Article
  • Count up the votes on The Sims Wiki:Featured article
  • Visit the winning page and use the text there to create a 1-3 paragraph write-up describing the article topic in general. For a guide into what this looks like, see The Sims Wiki:Featured article/Past Articles
  • Update {{Featured Article}}, add the new write-up to the list of past articles (under March 2014) and remove the winning vote from the voting section.
  • Add {{Feat art}} to the bottom of the winning page. If the page has a {{Pagecover}}, also include a blurb in the 'subtitle' parameter of that template, stating that it is The Sims Wiki's Featured Article for March 2014.
Monthly Poll
  • Create a page for the previous month's poll. This page would be at The Sims Wiki:Polls/2014 February. Go to {{MainPagePoll}} and copy over the poll to the new page (be sure to include the <poll></poll>tags). You can see how this is done by checking out the polls listed on The Sims Wiki:Polls.
  • Total up the number of responses on the old poll, calculate a percentage of response to each option, and list out the responses and percentages underneath the poll on the new page. This page will be an archive.
  • Come up with a new poll question (ask around if you can't think of one - this is sometimes difficult to come up with) and a few poll answers. Under the poll, include a link to the archive page for the February poll, along with a blurb about which response received the most votes.

My apologies if this seems a bit daunting, but you are reliable and active so I trust that you can handle this situation. As I said, if you want you can contact someone else to take this over. This would only be for the month of March, I plan on being less busy in real life by then.

Thanks for any help you can provide. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 02:19, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

Archiving my talk page

Thank you for archiving my talk page, I think that next time I could try to do it myself. Though if it is too hard for me then I know who to ask. Joey.eyeball (talk) 04:49, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

AWARDS

Your work and contributions here have been invaluable! You are the most prominent wikian I know, or at least to me. :) You deserve an award for your hard work, but I couldn't give any better award than the little present you gave to me. :/ Please hang it on your userpage if you want to. :p Nikel Talk Vote! 15:59, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Anyway, somehow I misspelled the title deliberately but for no reason. I don't know why. Nikel Talk Vote! 16:17, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Unused thumbnails

Hi, I saw your edit on Sef Darong's page and I just want to inform you that thumbnails that Sef or Gunther Gous use were originally available for males. I saw that in one trailer. Mate1234 (Chatterbox...) 16:21, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

Poll

Although it is still a while away, could you maybe have the April poll about what intro video is best out of The Sims, The Sims 2, and The Sims 3. Still about 15 days away but could you keep that in mind until then? Thanks. Joey.eyeball (talk) 06:22, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Sef Darong

I'm pretty sure it's not the same pose as one of the eight female thumbnail poses, but it is very similar. Either way, the comment you wrote on the Sef Darong page definetely explained things better than the comment I wrote. C.Syde65 (talk) 09:46, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Great kisser

I thought that, since trait names are always capitalized, I deleted the redirect so it will enforce usage of capitalization every time it's linked. Now that you mention it, I think it's a reckless move by me. :/ Do you think we should keep it and make redirects for all other traits? Nikel Talk Vote! 03:11, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

Yes. I honestly overlooked the search bar. Sometimes, some redirects are redundant and unnecessary, and I thought this is one of them. I guess I'm having a second thought now. Nikel Talk Vote! 12:04, March 19, 2014 (UTC)
It just occurred to me. Is the search bar case-sensitive? Nikel Talk Vote! 15:54, March 21, 2014 (UTC)
I've been trying to keep the number of unnecessary redirects low, but only for the unnecessary ones (like obvious misspelling of a Sim's name). That being said, there's no exact way to distinguish which is unnecessary and which isn't. I understand Wikipedia has a lot of redirects, and I believe it really needs a lot. But I guess we don't need to discuss this matter for too long? Unless you want to, that's fine. I guess there's no harm keeping this one redirect as it's already been made (before I deleted it). Nikel Talk Vote! 16:29, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

Pages in user spaces.

Hi K6ka! :D

I wondered, would it be alright for me to make a page in my user space? I'm asking, because at the bottom of my sims fanons, I add a collapsable table, that has the links to the rest of the members of the family. As you can see here, at the bottom. As the family grows, more members will need to be added to it. It would save a lot of time, if I could make a page like User:WayfinderOwl/GothFamily then treat it like a template, like some people do with the /sig user space pages. That way I could edit it once, and the info gets changed on all pages using that template, rather than editing each page to just add the same link.

WayfinderOwl (talk) 19:59, March 23, 2014 (UTC)

Cool. I will then. I had to ask, because I wasn't sure if it was against the rules. I did check, and didn't find anything. Best to ask, when it doubt. LOL, if I did have to edit every page to update the family table, I'd probably end up hating the Goths. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:21, March 23, 2014 (UTC)

Re:Userboxes

Oh, thanks K6ka! I wasn't sure what exactly to do. I'll add those to the template. I made a Gunther Goth and Cornelia Goth userboxes, because I really wanted them. Other people might want to add them too. For the category names, what do I put, like "Users who are a fan of ____" or "User/____"

I might actually make a userspace sandbox, because it is starting to look like it could come in handy. Sometimes when I'm trying to figure out how templates work, I tend work on it, save the coding on a file on my computer, leave it for a while and come back. Then I could leave them there as long as I want. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:06, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

I tried adding that code, just like you said, but it didn't add the category. I put them here, on my newly made sandbox, and I think I did something wrong with the code. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:35, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I knew I should have deleted that last message. 'Cause, I kinda figured it out, and just made the template here Template:Fan corneliagoth. I litterally clicked publish seconds before I saw your message. I got annoyed with not being able to figure it out, so I clicked edit on a template clicked edit, copied the codes and left without publishing. I'm still going to use the page you made. I've been meaning to make a to do list blog, but never got around to it. Now I can have a to-do list page. WayfinderOwl (talk) 21:32, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

That story of mine

In chat the other day, I promised that I would post the link to my story on your talk page. Here it is. Only four chapters have gone up so far, but it will be updated often, I hope. WayfinderOwl (talk) 23:22, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

User changing several pages

There is a user, 75.179.49.111, who has changed several pages on Sims that don't seem to be verified or even correct. I corrected on such change yesterday and the user changed it back as well at several others. I think an admin needs to get involved. Icemandeaf (talk) 22:19, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! Icemandeaf (talk) 04:47, April 4, 2014 (UTC)

Suggestion

I've just made this category, Category:Real people, and now I think it sounds very strange and not accurate. Maybe I should rename it to Category:Real life people or Category:Real-life people, or maybe Category:People in real life? What do you think? Nikel Talk Vote! 10:35, April 5, 2014 (UTC)

Disappearing Graves & Game Corruption (Sims 2)

I need to clarify something:  I know that deliberately deleting tombstones / urns causes shredded character files, which leads to game corruption. That's why I never do that.

So the game files I brought over from my old computer to my new computer originally contain all graves, but somehow, none of the graves were physically visible in my new computer.

I take it that since I didn't deliberately delete the graves, the character files are still exactly as the game left them. As in, Claudio Monty has complete character data, but Specter's victims have incomplete data. From what I see on the Claudio Monty, Game guide:Resurrecting tips & Game_guide:Avoiding_corruption pages, it should be safe to resurrect some pre-made sims: the ones which have complete character data.

But what I'm not sure about: If graves go invisible even when the player didn't deliberately delete them, is the character file necessarily shredded as if the player deliberately deleted them?

This neighborhood in question is the MATY-merged Pleasantview-Strangetown-Veronaville. As far as I know, I am careful not to do anything that is known to corrupt the game, and have not encountered any bugs / major warning signs in the 1.5 years since I transferred my game files.

AldoHyde 16:12, April 7, 2014 (UTC)

If you use SimPE, doesn't that help with bringing back deceased Sims, when transferring your game files over? C.Syde65 (talk) 01:30, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Contributers and editting fanons

Hey,

It's not my place to say anything directly to the WCs who do this, but there do seem to be few that are ignoring the property templates. I think it needs to be made clearer that other users aren't supposed do big edits to fanon pages they don't own. I have seen a few WCs edit fanon pages made by other users, and some have edited two of mine with out asking me with incorrect information, that I have had to undo. The biggest edit on mine was the one on this page, who made this trivia addition of information which isn't true, and I have not indicated of the sim being reference to this Dexter they mention, because I haven't even heard of this show. Maybe a note should be added to the template or something, that if a user or WC feels a big change should be made to the page, they should just mention it in the comments? WayfinderOwl (talk) 17:22, April 23, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, I will. I wasn't sure if I could do that. Incase I was doing something only admins and rollbackers can do. On some wikis I've been on-but never actually edited on, people who posted on a person's talkpage telling them that they were breaking the rules, they would in turn get warned for acting like a syspop (is that how you spell the word?) I wasn't sure if it was a universal wiki thing, or just those wikis. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:06, April 23, 2014 (UTC)
I'll remember that. (I have no idea why I thought it 'pop' instead of 'op', lol.) It will be good to know for future reference. Sometimes I see unneeded edits to canon pages, but I didn't know what the procedure is other than edit undoing before. At least I know now. WayfinderOwl (talk) 21:42, April 23, 2014 (UTC)
