Lights and Hot Date[edit source]

Hot Date was the first expansion pack I had, so I know it does not make all lights in The Sims unclickable. I know that ceiling lights aren't clickable, and that not all other lights are. It may be that lights included in Hot Date and later EPs behaved differently wrt to being clickable and when they turned on and off, I never looked into it closely enough to see if there was a definite pattern. Still, I do recall that there was variability in how lights behaved, even with Hot Date. Dharden (talk) 19:27, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

OK, I did a little checking, and edited to reflect the idea that Hot Date changed the Maxis lights (except the ones it didn't), and that custom lights may still use the old code and work in the old way. Dharden (talk) 16:08, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

Editing the patch notes[edit source]

I wouldn't really bother correcting the patch notes since that's what was actually written in the original patch notes at EA's site. This still happens to The Sims 3 patch notes too. But now that you've corrected them, I just want to thank you. :) Nikel Talk Vote! 07:11, July 30, 2013 (UTC)

That's kinda hard to believe, seeing how many typos and "sounds more like bug notes" those patch notes were. Ah well EAxis. You're welcome. K6ka (talk) 14:14, July 30, 2013 (UTC)

TS2 dorm fixes[edit source]

Thanks for noting those. I'd been using moveobjects to delete stuck tables, then re-buying them. Howver, I am a bit concerned about the DormieAssignmentFix, since the thread mentions no EP above Pets. I know dorm assignments are specific to University, so I wouldn't expect them to change in later EPs -- but we are talking about EA, so I'm not prepared to gamble on that, either. Dharden (talk) 14:51, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

OK, that you use it with all packs is good enough for me. I have a mod that lets me selectively disable free-will assignments on individual lots, but I leave them enabled in dorms. I can deal with dormies leaving assignments, but it annoys me when they forget about them and start new ones. BTW, I did d/l the Director's Cut for FT and noticed a mod called "snapdragonpets", which apparently makes Snapdragon Bouquets affect pets. You know anything about that? Dharden (talk) 19:54, November 17, 2013 (UTC)
It's just that I'd thought snapdragons affected pets. Dharden (talk) 20:59, November 17, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for Being Kind[edit source]

Thanks for being kind for saying that i dont need a acount to edit.I check out meerkat wiki, meerkat fanon wiki, CP wiki,CP pookie wiki.I prefer sims wiki though. I am soooo Desperate for a acount but yeah. Too young. But im very lucky to be in a fanon.

RE: Pollination Technician #9[edit source]

I've never had a Sim with ten body skills lose a fight against a Sim with zero before, only one body skill. But if it's happened to you...great! C.Syde65 (talk) 01:23, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

Rollback rights[edit source]

Hi, K6ka! I've nominated you for rollback rights. Please head over to the nomination page and respond the request to accept or decline it. Nikel Talk Vote! 15:35, December 14, 2013 (UTC)

Remove option on Hood Checker[edit source]

If I use this option, how could I check to see if it broke something while fixing the problems it found? It does warn that it's in testing, and asks about having a backup (something I do regularly), so I have to assume that that is possible. Dharden (talk) 18:55, December 16, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I know corruption can take a while to show. I suppose that'd be just as true if I let things ride as it would be if it broke C and D while fixing A and B. And, as you noted, pre-made neighborhoods are pre-broken anyway. Dharden (talk) 21:30, December 16, 2013 (UTC)

Carpool Drivers[edit source]

I get it now. You don't want me adding more information about David Thompson such as making him playable because he is one of those object NPCs. Once again I get it now. Even though, carpool drivers have names like townies and NPCs which are safe to make playable.C.Syde65 (talk) 01:26, December 21, 2013 (UTC)

I didn't mean to remove it. When I realized that the page already had a warning header, I deleted the old one and left the one I added. But no harm done. C.Syde65 (talk) 23:12, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

Circe Beaker[edit source]

Actually it isn't normal. Before I installed my expansion packs, I could click on a specific tile on the footpath. Circe was the only Sim I've encountered that will fail to walk off properly. I think we should keep this statement on her page. C.Syde65 (talk) 22:47, December 27, 2013 (UTC)

Yes it is true what I say. That Circe is the only one, the player is unable to direct to walk off the lot without re-appearing invisible. I played the base game for more than a year before installing my expansion packs. C.Syde65 (talk) 21:44, December 28, 2013 (UTC)

Revision[edit source]

How do you undo revisions? C.Syde65 (talk) 23:41, December 29, 2013 (UTC)

RE: New Information RE: The Sims 2[edit source]

Well, I'm feeling odd you'd tell me that, because I don't remember ever having extracted Sims via SimPE, or talking about similar topics. But it's an interesting info to hear nonetheless.

Anyway, if you seem to have found the correct way to extract in-game Sims, aren't you going to revise Game Help:Extract In-Game Sim in SimsWiki? Just curious. Nikel Talk Vote! 03:59, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

You're right. For unknown reason, a lot of pages in that wiki are locked. I like that wiki since it explains technical details which sometimes won't fit anywhere in this wiki. On the other hand, that wiki is very poorly-organized. Nikel Talk Vote! 16:56, January 5, 2014 (UTC)

Newcomers[edit source]

Well, I understand that. But I don't quite understand how you are meant to direct newcomers to do things the right way. Sure, my comments were a bit more harsh than they should have been. Still we are trying to improve the Sims wiki. Once again I'm not quite sure what I'm meant to do (in the first sentence I wrote). I'm aware that you're not meant to write negative comments and I'm not usually known for doing that myself C.Syde65 (talk) 03:36, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

Yes about the newcomers. They haven't changed their positions at all. However they have got some of their facts right. But what does someone have to do put newcomers in the right direction. C.Syde65 (talk) 04:08, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

Request for admin rights[edit source]

Hi, K6ka! I've nominated you for admin rights. Please visit the request page to accept or decline the nomination. :) Oh, and my message sounds similar to the one I left for you for the rollback rights. Nikel Talk Vote! 06:21, January 24, 2014 (UTC)

Blank Personality tables[edit source]

Some users have dismissed blank personality tables as being useless. Are they useless, or was I right to add them in the first place? C.Syde65 (talk) 22:36, January 25, 2014 (UTC)

Changing first names in The Sims 2[edit source]

I would never have suspected that SimPE should not be used to change first names. Maybe there needs to be a list of things SimPE will let you do, but shouldn't be done. Dharden (talk) 02:54, February 4, 2014 (UTC)

Changes to warning template[edit source]

I've noticed that you have included additional text when using {{Warning}} on IP user talkpages. I've copied that text and added it to the warning itself. The additional text can be triggered by filling the template parameter <ip> with any non-blank text or string. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 01:39, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

Archives[edit source]

I would archive a lot of my messages, but I'm not sure how to do it. C.Syde65 (talk) 06:16, February 7, 2014 (UTC)

Pages / Rollbacking[edit source]

Man it would be great to make a page with rubbish on it. I know it sounds - and even I think it sounds - stupid. But it would be useful for testing the rollback tool. I recently became a rollback but I've never actually lived up to it. C.Syde65 (talk) 06:16, February 7, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Archiving your talk page[edit source]

I actually plan to archive my talk page once it reaches 50 discussions if that isn't a problem. And when it reaches 50 discussions, I wouldn't mind if you archived it for me. Joey.eyeball (talk) 05:18, February 18, 2014 (UTC)

Preceding unsigned comment[edit source]

On the battles page in the comments section there is an unsigned comment. I'm not really considering fixing it myself but still I'd want to know how to fix unsigned comments myself in future. C.Syde65 (talk) 05:45, February 18, 2014 (UTC)

Edit on the Sims FreePlay[edit source]

Hey, I thought you might want to know what this user "162.198.166.68" contributed on the page The Sims FreePlay.

Sims is also the stupidists game on earth and if you are reading this this is a HUGE waste of your time.

I've already rollbacked this bad faith edit, but I just wanted to let you know anyway. C.Syde65 (talk) 01:19, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

That's alright. Although I have warned a few editors about their contributions in the past, I wasn't entirely sure whether a simple warning would stop this editor. C.Syde65 (talk) 01:50, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Okay thanks. C.Syde65 (talk) 02:17, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Featured article and poll[edit source]

I'm usually the one that changes over the Featured Article and Main Page Poll at the beginning of each month. I've been incredibly busy lately so I haven't had the opportunity to do this, and I don't think I'll get a good chance to do it in the near term. Can you please take over for me in updating these features, or find another user who is able to do so?

Here's the procedure I follow for updating these features:

Featured Article
  • Count up the votes on The Sims Wiki:Featured article
  • Visit the winning page and use the text there to create a 1-3 paragraph write-up describing the article topic in general. For a guide into what this looks like, see The Sims Wiki:Featured article/Past Articles
  • Update {{Featured Article}}, add the new write-up to the list of past articles (under March 2014) and remove the winning vote from the voting section.
  • Add {{Feat art}} to the bottom of the winning page. If the page has a {{Pagecover}}, also include a blurb in the 'subtitle' parameter of that template, stating that it is The Sims Wiki's Featured Article for March 2014.
Monthly Poll
  • Create a page for the previous month's poll. This page would be at The Sims Wiki:Polls/2014 February. Go to {{MainPagePoll}} and copy over the poll to the new page (be sure to include the <poll></poll>tags). You can see how this is done by checking out the polls listed on The Sims Wiki:Polls.
  • Total up the number of responses on the old poll, calculate a percentage of response to each option, and list out the responses and percentages underneath the poll on the new page. This page will be an archive.
  • Come up with a new poll question (ask around if you can't think of one - this is sometimes difficult to come up with) and a few poll answers. Under the poll, include a link to the archive page for the February poll, along with a blurb about which response received the most votes.

My apologies if this seems a bit daunting, but you are reliable and active so I trust that you can handle this situation. As I said, if you want you can contact someone else to take this over. This would only be for the month of March, I plan on being less busy in real life by then.

Thanks for any help you can provide. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 02:19, March 5, 2014 (UTC)

Archiving my talk page[edit source]

Thank you for archiving my talk page, I think that next time I could try to do it myself. Though if it is too hard for me then I know who to ask. Joey.eyeball (talk) 04:49, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

AWARDS

Your work and contributions here have been invaluable! You are the most prominent wikian I know, or at least to me. :) You deserve an award for your hard work, but I couldn't give any better award than the little present you gave to me. :/ Please hang it on your userpage if you want to. :p Nikel Talk Vote! 15:59, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Anyway, somehow I misspelled the title deliberately but for no reason. I don't know why. Nikel Talk Vote! 16:17, March 7, 2014 (UTC)

Unused thumbnails[edit source]

Hi, I saw your edit on Sef Darong's page and I just want to inform you that thumbnails that Sef or Gunther Gous use were originally available for males. I saw that in one trailer. Mate1234 (Chatterbox...) 16:21, March 16, 2014 (UTC)

Poll[edit source]

Although it is still a while away, could you maybe have the April poll about what intro video is best out of The Sims, The Sims 2, and The Sims 3. Still about 15 days away but could you keep that in mind until then? Thanks. Joey.eyeball (talk) 06:22, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

Sef Darong[edit source]

I'm pretty sure it's not the same pose as one of the eight female thumbnail poses, but it is very similar. Either way, the comment you wrote on the Sef Darong page definetely explained things better than the comment I wrote. C.Syde65 (talk) 09:46, March 17, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Great kisser[edit source]

I thought that, since trait names are always capitalized, I deleted the redirect so it will enforce usage of capitalization every time it's linked. Now that you mention it, I think it's a reckless move by me. :/ Do you think we should keep it and make redirects for all other traits? Nikel Talk Vote! 03:11, March 19, 2014 (UTC)

Yes. I honestly overlooked the search bar. Sometimes, some redirects are redundant and unnecessary, and I thought this is one of them. I guess I'm having a second thought now. Nikel Talk Vote! 12:04, March 19, 2014 (UTC)
It just occurred to me. Is the search bar case-sensitive? Nikel Talk Vote! 15:54, March 21, 2014 (UTC)
I've been trying to keep the number of unnecessary redirects low, but only for the unnecessary ones (like obvious misspelling of a Sim's name). That being said, there's no exact way to distinguish which is unnecessary and which isn't. I understand Wikipedia has a lot of redirects, and I believe it really needs a lot. But I guess we don't need to discuss this matter for too long? Unless you want to, that's fine. I guess there's no harm keeping this one redirect as it's already been made (before I deleted it). Nikel Talk Vote! 16:29, March 21, 2014 (UTC)

Pages in user spaces.[edit source]

Hi K6ka! :D

I wondered, would it be alright for me to make a page in my user space? I'm asking, because at the bottom of my sims fanons, I add a collapsable table, that has the links to the rest of the members of the family. As you can see here, at the bottom. As the family grows, more members will need to be added to it. It would save a lot of time, if I could make a page like User:WayfinderOwl/GothFamily then treat it like a template, like some people do with the /sig user space pages. That way I could edit it once, and the info gets changed on all pages using that template, rather than editing each page to just add the same link.

WayfinderOwl (talk) 19:59, March 23, 2014 (UTC)

Cool. I will then. I had to ask, because I wasn't sure if it was against the rules. I did check, and didn't find anything. Best to ask, when it doubt. LOL, if I did have to edit every page to update the family table, I'd probably end up hating the Goths. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:21, March 23, 2014 (UTC)

Re:Userboxes[edit source]

Oh, thanks K6ka! I wasn't sure what exactly to do. I'll add those to the template. I made a Gunther Goth and Cornelia Goth userboxes, because I really wanted them. Other people might want to add them too. For the category names, what do I put, like "Users who are a fan of ____" or "User/____"

I might actually make a userspace sandbox, because it is starting to look like it could come in handy. Sometimes when I'm trying to figure out how templates work, I tend work on it, save the coding on a file on my computer, leave it for a while and come back. Then I could leave them there as long as I want. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:06, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

I tried adding that code, just like you said, but it didn't add the category. I put them here, on my newly made sandbox, and I think I did something wrong with the code. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:35, March 27, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I knew I should have deleted that last message. 'Cause, I kinda figured it out, and just made the template here Template:Fan corneliagoth. I litterally clicked publish seconds before I saw your message. I got annoyed with not being able to figure it out, so I clicked edit on a template clicked edit, copied the codes and left without publishing. I'm still going to use the page you made. I've been meaning to make a to do list blog, but never got around to it. Now I can have a to-do list page. WayfinderOwl (talk) 21:32, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

That story of mine[edit source]

In chat the other day, I promised that I would post the link to my story on your talk page. Here it is. Only four chapters have gone up so far, but it will be updated often, I hope. WayfinderOwl (talk) 23:22, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

User changing several pages[edit source]

There is a user, 75.179.49.111, who has changed several pages on Sims that don't seem to be verified or even correct. I corrected on such change yesterday and the user changed it back as well at several others. I think an admin needs to get involved. Icemandeaf (talk) 22:19, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! Icemandeaf (talk) 04:47, April 4, 2014 (UTC)

Suggestion[edit source]

I've just made this category, Category:Real people, and now I think it sounds very strange and not accurate. Maybe I should rename it to Category:Real life people or Category:Real-life people, or maybe Category:People in real life? What do you think? Nikel Talk Vote! 10:35, April 5, 2014 (UTC)

Disappearing Graves & Game Corruption (Sims 2)[edit source]

I need to clarify something:  I know that deliberately deleting tombstones / urns causes shredded character files, which leads to game corruption. That's why I never do that.

So the game files I brought over from my old computer to my new computer originally contain all graves, but somehow, none of the graves were physically visible in my new computer.

I take it that since I didn't deliberately delete the graves, the character files are still exactly as the game left them. As in, Claudio Monty has complete character data, but Specter's victims have incomplete data. From what I see on the Claudio Monty, Game guide:Resurrecting tips & Game_guide:Avoiding_corruption pages, it should be safe to resurrect some pre-made sims: the ones which have complete character data.

But what I'm not sure about: If graves go invisible even when the player didn't deliberately delete them, is the character file necessarily shredded as if the player deliberately deleted them?

This neighborhood in question is the MATY-merged Pleasantview-Strangetown-Veronaville. As far as I know, I am careful not to do anything that is known to corrupt the game, and have not encountered any bugs / major warning signs in the 1.5 years since I transferred my game files.

AldoHyde 16:12, April 7, 2014 (UTC)

If you use SimPE, doesn't that help with bringing back deceased Sims, when transferring your game files over? C.Syde65 (talk) 01:30, April 8, 2014 (UTC)

Wiki Contributers and editting fanons[edit source]

Hey,

It's not my place to say anything directly to the WCs who do this, but there do seem to be few that are ignoring the property templates. I think it needs to be made clearer that other users aren't supposed do big edits to fanon pages they don't own. I have seen a few WCs edit fanon pages made by other users, and some have edited two of mine with out asking me with incorrect information, that I have had to undo. The biggest edit on mine was the one on this page, who made this trivia addition of information which isn't true, and I have not indicated of the sim being reference to this Dexter they mention, because I haven't even heard of this show. Maybe a note should be added to the template or something, that if a user or WC feels a big change should be made to the page, they should just mention it in the comments? WayfinderOwl (talk) 17:22, April 23, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, I will. I wasn't sure if I could do that. Incase I was doing something only admins and rollbackers can do. On some wikis I've been on-but never actually edited on, people who posted on a person's talkpage telling them that they were breaking the rules, they would in turn get warned for acting like a syspop (is that how you spell the word?) I wasn't sure if it was a universal wiki thing, or just those wikis. WayfinderOwl (talk) 20:06, April 23, 2014 (UTC)
I'll remember that. (I have no idea why I thought it 'pop' instead of 'op', lol.) It will be good to know for future reference. Sometimes I see unneeded edits to canon pages, but I didn't know what the procedure is other than edit undoing before. At least I know now. WayfinderOwl (talk) 21:42, April 23, 2014 (UTC)

Safely transferring saved game data[edit source]

According to Nikel, you might be able to answer this question for me as you normally seem to know this technical stuff better. You can view the original question and answers that made me write this message on this page.

Here is my plan to safely be able to transfer my saved game files over to another computer. On my current computer I have Nightlife, Open for Business, Apartment Life, Celebration! Stuff, Fashion Stuff, Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff and Home Stuff.

Will I safely be able to transfer my saved game files over if I do this?

  • Install Sims 2
  • Install Nightlife
  • Install Open for Business
  • Install Apartment Life
  • Install Celebration! Stuff
  • Install H&M Fashion Stuff
  • Install Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff
  • Install IKEA Home Stuff
  • Overwrite neighbourhoods package files with the one from my current computer.
  • Install University
  • Install Pets
  • Install Seasons
  • Install Bon Voyage
  • Install Free Time
  • Install Family Fun Stuff
  • Launch Apartment Life

Again you probably won't understand what I'm trying to ask you without looking at my questions on the Expansion Packs talk page. C.Syde (talk | contribs) 22:06, May 1, 2014 (UTC)

So does that mean I should follow the instructions I wrote for myself, or do my instructions need to be re-written? C.Syde (talk | contribs) 02:53, May 2, 2014 (UTC)

Again, I should mention that I don't currently have University, Family Fun Stuff, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage and Free Time installed on my current computer. Are you suggesting that I should re-install my expansion and stuff packs in release order and then copy my saved game files over (even though my saved game files lack any content from the five expansion packs and one stuff pack I mentioned)?

The reason why I'm asking is that I've previously had problems with expansion packs where you install some expansion packs, and then you install one of the previous expansion packs. The game may be unable to properly show the content from the expansion pack in question (such as furniture, Witch Doctor mask, hairstyles and clothes etc). 65.78.158.183[edit source]

I think the thing to do with 65.78.158.183 (talk · contribs · editcount · block · modify rights · logs · block log) is block first, then undo the vandalism. It seems pretty clear that whoever-this-is has no intention of making constructive edits. Dharden (talk) 01:40, May 6, 2014 (UTC)

I see where you're coming from, but I figure they've had their warnings. Dharden (talk) 01:59, May 6, 2014 (UTC)

Abandoned Fanons[edit source]

I was going through the policies, just to remind myself of them. I still wasn't sure about the duration of time between page creater's last edit and when it is considered abandoned. That was never exactly made clear. How much time has to pass, before a fanon is marked abandoned? WayfinderOwl (talk) 21:26, May 7, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, makes sense. I thought I'd ask, because I'm going to be really busy for a couple of months later this year, and didn't want my fanons to be abandoned or deleted in my absense. I'll have to mark them as complete when that happens then. WayfinderOwl (talk) 21:34, May 7, 2014 (UTC)

Stub Articles/Fanon(?)[edit source]

Hello k6, I saw some new pages created by Helloforgoodbyes 4 days ago (sorry for not updating for you or the admins) and I'm just wondering that are they pre-made Sims in Roaring Heights? And they have a little information about them and I think these are stubs. The links are here: [1], [2], [3]. ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) 10:21, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

Ok then, I though it's a fanon, I'll edit the Morgans but only adding a template. ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) 11:02, May 14, 2014 (UTC)

Checking up[edit source]

Hi K6ka! :) How have you been doing? I've been so busy these days, and I think I couldn't catch up with things in the wiki until tomorrow evening. I just wanted to check up with things here. Is there anything happening recently? With the recent CAS trailer of The Sims 4, I thought we might be flooded with information especially in Bella Goth and Mortimer Goth, but I don't know. I haven't checked. I hope things are doing well here! See you tomorrow, hopefully! Nikel Talk Vote! 16:48, May 15, 2014 (UTC)

Alright, thanks for the news! I always kept telling myself to be skeptical about The Sims 4 but the CAS video made me excited for no reason! I was disappointed in a lot of things, and I knew a CAS video isn't enough to make up for it, but I just got excited... geez. Anyway, good luck for the training again! Career2 Parameter for Sims Infobox?[edit source]

How does the "career2" parameter for the Sims Infobox work? I noticed it on the {{Sim}} template, but when I tried to do something with it, nothing seemed to happen. Icemandeaf (talk) 21:38, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

Hmm... Is it possible that it doesn't carry over to {{Sim2}}? Because I tried several variations of using both career and career2, and nothing in career2 would show no matter what I did for career.
I just looked into it and sure enough it isn't there. Interesting. Icemandeaf (talk) 21:56, May 19, 2014 (UTC)
So if I had a retied sim who had a part time job, it wouldn't be possible to put both? Icemandeaf (talk) 22:04, May 19, 2014 (UTC)
Oh, I think I see what you mean. It looks like career is for Sims 2 careers and career2 is for Sims 3. Icemandeaf (talk) 22:08, May 19, 2014 (UTC)
Sure thing. Thanks for the help. Icemandeaf (talk) 22:23, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

Spam filter[edit source]

FWIW The filter was working for me before the changes you made; it was preventing me from editing with that string. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 00:02, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

I just tested it again; the filter works the same as before now, except that it exempts sysops, so I had to demote myself in order to test it. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 00:07, June 9, 2014 (UTC)
In this case, it wouldn't have mattered, since the filter isn't set to block users that trigger it, only disallow the edit. - LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 00:29, June 9, 2014 (UTC)
No, they're completely different flags. You can be a bureaucrat without being a sysop. Non-sysop bureaucrats have access to User Rights management but can't do normal sysop tasks (delete, block, etc) and aren't treated as sysops by MediaWiki. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 00:34, June 9, 2014 (UTC)
For further information... bureaucrat flags apparently allow me to block/unblock users (presumably so I can unblock myself if necessary) but I can't delete or protect pages. So, it seems that most (but not all) sysop rights are exclusive to that flag and not shared with bureaucrats unless they also hold the sysop flag. - LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 00:41, June 9, 2014 (UTC)
That page is deliberately simplified. While technically a bureaucrat needs sysop flags to act as a sysop, in actual practice bureaucrats almost always have sysop flags anyways, so they practically are equivalent to a regular sysop when it comes to performing administrative tasks. Explaining the relationship between sysop and bureaucrat is complicated and confusing, so that page is written to gloss over the issue a little, since the point we're trying to reinforce is that sysops and bureaucrats are equal to each other when it comes to acting as admins. - LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 00:55, June 9, 2014 (UTC)

Deleting work[edit source]

Hi k6, Can you please delete the Template:Userbox Slovakia, Category:Users/COUNTRY and Category:Users/Slovakia. I noticed that I didn't wrote the COUNTRY into Slovakia. When I changed it, all of the users with Slovakia userboxes were not appear in the Category:Users/Slovakia and instead they're appeared in the Category:Users/COUNTRY. I'll remake it again if you can delete those three. ~~.ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) | (my mistakes) 10:21, June 12, 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, I can only define this strange. Wait, can an admin rename the category? ~~.ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) | (my mistakes) 10:50, June 12, 2014 (UTC)
Okay. Then I guess we leave them for now. And also, I think it is impossible, in my thoughts, to rename a category page, since there is no "Rename" option and it says "Permission error" when I tried it. :| ~~.ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) | (my mistakes) 11:04, June 12, 2014 (UTC)
Guess I'm impatient. I check the Category:User/Slovakia and it appeared a user. (blame my brain) ~~.ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) | (my mistakes) 11:07, June 12, 2014 (UTC)

Which NPCs are safe to play as[edit source]

I noticed that you moved the DJs back to the category for NPCs that are considered to be dangerous. But there's a DJ that I've been using for ages and nothing bad has happened.

I converted one of the DJs - Amin Graham into a Townie for my game, and so far, the game has treated him as a regular townie - no signs of coruption.

Clearly my information and experience contradicts yours, so I remain unconvinced. Exactly how do you know - or rather what makes you suspect that DJs aren't safe to be made playable? C.Syde (talk | contribs) 01:32, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

Ah yes, I get it now. Some players seem to believe that DJs aren't safe because they can't be made playable without cheats. I think once they have been made playable, the game just sees them as Sims, or townies if the player moves them into the townie bin.

I certainly haven't experienced any problems with DJs. C.Syde (talk | contribs) 01:38, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

I forgot to say that the reason I removed them rather than shifting them was because I didn't see the list of townies and NPCs that are safe to make playable. C.Syde (talk | contribs) 01:41, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

True, and it's possible to meet the Social Worker without cheats! C.Syde (talk | contribs) 01:54, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

Have break dancers and human statues been added to the list. Because if not, then I'll be thinking of adding them. C.Syde (talk | contribs) 02:06, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

Changing the page layout[edit source]

Hey k6, I've been thinking that we shouldn't change the page layout that we decided. Because if we add some more of it, it would end up like this. I check too to add the TS3 toilet page layout, but it was still the same as I show. I think that each articles have limitations in this. ~~.ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) | (my mistakes) 13:07, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

Apologies for butting in (and for not being able to catch up with things due to my absence), but... is that what would happen if a page uses too many infobox templates? If so, then it's a real mess. Also, is this a new discussion or continuation of an old discussion? I want to know the original one.
I... really don't think we need to list every single chair that exists in the game. I mean, look at this! Each chair has no significance to each other, so what's really the point of listing them all? I think we should find an alternative for this. I certainly don't want chairs to have their own separate page for each game. What will even be written there? Nikel Talk Vote! 15:26, June 20, 2014 (UTC)
ETA: This has been a recurring joke question every time a new series / EP / set is released: "Will The Sims 4 / this EP / this set have chairs?" Nikel Talk Vote! 15:28, June 20, 2014 (UTC)
Well, I'm thinking that maybe we could just find the thumbnail of each chair and add it to the page using <gallery> tag, but then again, I feel like it's really pointless... Certain items in the series are just too insignificant to be singled out. Nikel Talk Vote! 15:32, June 20, 2014 (UTC)
Ok then. I thought tabview and tabber are a help too. ~~.ThePeculiarMe | (talk to me) | (my mistakes) 22:05, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

RE: A notice[edit source]

Okay I guess I was being tricked into becoming a little too sympathetic. It was actually very convincing that she's not an outright vandal - I'm not sure what to believe but I do agree that she does not deserve to come back. I'm not sure how she'll manage but if the admins keep her away, then at least they should find a better solution or contact wiki staff to ensure that she doesn't come back. Otherwise she'll just continually create sockpuppets.

Also I have no idea why she even bothers coming here, when she has her own fanon Sims wiki. I've taken a look at her website but as far as I'm concerned, it isn't in very good shape. It's hard to know whether ILS5 is - a user who is desperate for another chance and deserves to return to the Sims wiki, or a user who is deliberately making unconstructive edits (and should have seen her indefinite block coming). -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 20:24, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

Image from Teen[edit source]

I'm not sure how it should be handled, but the same WC just removed the same image from the teen page that was taken down and placed back yesterday. I realize that the person who put it back asked you about it, but because the WC was not involved in that discussion I wonder if this is going to become a warring. Maybe it will just resolve itself, but I suspect that this should be watched out for. Thoughts? Icemandeaf (talk) 18:42, June 21, 2014 (UTC)

Just to make sure, you wouldn't advise reverting because it might provoke an edit war? That was my thought as well, which is why I wanted to ask you. So since you already contacted the IP, I guess we'll just wait and hope for the best. Icemandeaf (talk) 19:05, June 21, 2014 (UTC)

Opposing my nomination[edit source]

  • If this is what it feels like to be opposed then it’s not so bad. To be honest I’m actually pleased that you haven’t supported my nomination, because it indicates where I’m going wrong. I'd rather be opposed for a good reason than be supported for "nothing". And it's better than simply leaving the discussion page empty.
  • While most people normally take time over their edits, I am always in a rush because I feel that I have a mountain of things to do and I just want to get them all done. As a result I often forget to add several bits of information, so then I have to go back and type in the information that slips out of my mind - by which time other editors may already have noticed.
  • I often tend to do what many consider to be "A rough job which needs to be polished". I remember making an edit on a page, and another editor came along and tried to improve the grammar of my edit - but in doing so they re-wrote the opposite to what I had intended.
  • I have made many mistakes, most of which I am unlikely to repeat - but then there's always a new generation of mistakes, in addition to those mistakes that had no one else pointed them out to me, I would never have noticed.
  • Also when others try to explain things to me, I'm in too much of a hurry to actually take the time to consider and understand what they've said. This explains why I often misinterpret advice - such as "taking a step back and think a little bit deeper about what you're doing". Instead I might think of it as "wasting my time thinking about this when I could be jumping ahead to something else".
  • Naturally I'm often under the impression that nothing is wrong which is why I express my confidence and experience whilst failing to notice any advice. Instead I might see it as discouragement.
  • I can't see myself making any severe mistakes with those administrative tools but with those other mistakes, it doesn't look good. And of course a person can't always predict what they might or might do wrong. Recently I saw a nomination for administration-ship and thought "why has no one nominated me"? The answer was soon to be there waiting.
  • I'm unlikely to repeat those mistakes "blanking a page" or "making false assumptions regarding a certain user and their sockpuppets". And before I understood the concept of archiving a talk page, I removed some messages in order to show myself in a better light. Or back then I just didn’t want my talk page flooded. But that still doesn't mean that the 'charges' have been cleared...yet.
  • Now that I'm aware of these mistakes, I'm sure I can learn from them, and spend more time on things rather than jumping ahead. With that, I'll develop into a much better editor at a remarkably quick pace - being a quick learner.

I have left similar comments on LiR and Lab's talk pages, while most of the above has been written as a response to your particular message about whether I was ready to become an admin. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:13, June 25, 2014 (UTC)

A couple of things[edit source]

I noticed that you were doing some block notice test pages under your user name. I have always wondered if the borders should be rounded like everything else seems to be, so I looked at the coding. I noticed there were some coding for rounding just like the family templates did. I think that the newer browsers are no longer supporting -moz-border-radius and -webkit-border-radius, but using border-radius. I didn't edit your test pages to add that code because it is under your user page, but I thought you might want to be aware of that because there are more and more newer browsers viewing the wiki now.

The other thing I wanted to ask was related to blocking. (Thanks for the link to the information about it because it really helped me understand it more, though it might still be a while before it all sinks in.) What is the typical length of blocking? I noticed you gave 1 week to an IP last week, and then the IP repeated vandalism, and you gave a 2 week block. What is it after that? And are all first blocks 1 week? Or is there some things that merit a different length? - Icemandeaf (talk) 16:15, June 26, 2014 (UTC)
