Mixology (The Sims 3)

A mixologist at work.

Mixology is a new skill introduced in The Sims 3: Late Night. It functions somewhat similarly to Nectar Making[1]. Like bouncers, mixologists are randomly chosen at start of game and vary from day to day but they have been seen doing the same job. The mixologists have been seen around town, and most of them are homeless.

Challenges

Master of Mood
Only Sims that have made at least 200 Mood drinks can really be considered a Master of Mood. Their Mood Drinks are stronger and of a higher quality.
Poseidon
To become a deity of the liquid world, one must mix 500 total drinks in their lifetime. Sims with this much experience will never mix a bad drink again!
Cool Creator
Cool Creators are those Mixologists who have gone above and beyond their duties and have mixed 25 unique drinks. As a result of their vast experience, their custom drinks will be high quality.
Master Mixologist
It's one thing to just mix yummy beverages, but to actually serve them to customers takes a certain kind of bravery. Master Mixologists have served 60 or more drinks to other Sims. Their familiarity with working the bar means they earn more money while Moonlighting and have a better relationship with the bar's patrons.
Professor of Drinks
A Professor of Drinks has learned at least 42 Custom drink recipes from the different bars around town! A Sim with this kind of knowledge can serve special Custom drinks!

Abilities

  • Mix drinks at a bar.
  • Name drink creations[1]
  • Skill books will be available for reading [2][3]
  • Sims can get disoriented and in some cases vomit from having too many drinks[4].
  • There will be a minimum of 55 drinks (which is a mastery)[5]

Drinks

Drink effects

  • Better improvement on Fun.
  • Some may cause sims to become ill.
  • Better romantic interactions.[7]
  • Increase skill learning ability for four hours.
  • Improves mood.
  • One of a Sim's traits could be replaced with the Insane, Daredevil, or Party Animal traits. This drink effect lasts for 5 hours and will only occur if your Sim has had one of the three Crazy Drinks (see chart above).
  • Sorrow Annihilators lessen the effects of certain negative moodlets.
  • Energy drinks can improve Energy need.

Learning Mixology

See also: Tutorial:Easy Mixology

Sims will learn how to make drinks by going to different bars or nightclubs and drinking the drinks. Depending on their skill level, they will be able to learn the drinks from bars in one sitting or more than one glass of juice. They can also buy skill books from the bookstore to learn and improve the skill, as well as learning how to make the mood drinks.

Facts

  • At regular bars, Mixologists/Bartenders may trip and fall. But at popular, high-rated bars, Bartenders will flip and light drinks on fire.
  • Drinks are non-alcoholic (but oddly the effects of some drinks do refer to drunkness, such as the crazy drinks) and are different types of juice. Sims can become sick from drinking too much, and they may vomit.
  • Drink prices can vary, and may be affected by location and a Sim's celebrity status.
  • Drink prices increase based on the skill level of the mixologist. If a Sim is a master of mixology and moonlights as a mixologist, prices can be up to doubled.
  • Despite what effects they may have, Bar Drinks are always available to Teens and Pregnant Sims.

Trivia

  • One of the drink names, Spline Reticulator, is an easter egg in many Maxis games. It is regularly featured on loading screens or generating terrain going all the way back to Sim City 2000.
  • Mixologists in different bars wear specific uniforms. [confirmation needed]

To learn the four special gym drinks, it's best to have a Sim from your household order the drinks until your Mixologist Sim learns them.
