Cooking is a skill in The Sims 4. The cooking skill unlocks new food recipes and is the required skill for advancing in the Culinary career. This skill has 2 branches: homestyle (regular) and gourmet (advanced). With the Get to Work expansion pack, Sims can also learn baking. Reaching Cooking Level 10 is the requirement for Tungsten Chef Achievement, while Connoisseurus Rex requires Level 10 Gourmet Cooking.

Learning

Sims can cook, watch the cooking show on TV, or read a skill book about cooking, and they will automatically advance to level 1 of the skill. As Sims continue to raise their skill, they will unlock new recipes and tricks.

Abilities

Homestyle Abilities

At level 2: Combo Add trick move.

At level 3: Unlocks the interaction Talk about Cooking with other Sims.

At level 5:

• Unlocks the Gourmet Cooking Skill.
• Grants the "Competent Cook" moodlet while cooking.

At level 6: Additional trick moves.

At level 8: can flavorize the stove.

At level 9:

• Unlocks the interaction Give Cooking Tips to other Sims.
• Can send cupcakes to local Bakery for simoleons.

Gourmet Abilities

At level 3: Unlocks the Fancy Spices trick move.

At level 4: Food grants "Delicious Dish" moodlet.

At level 8: Unlocks the ability to Research Advanced Cooking Techniques on a Computer.

At level 9: Unlocks the interaction Share Cooking Secrets with other Sims.

At level 10: Unlocks the ability to Garnish dishes to make them better quality.

All experimental foods require the Dine Out game pack. The premade restaurant, Chez Llama, serves all the experimental dishes when it is placed in game. The experimental appetizers are: Honeyed World Fruit Charcuterie, Glacier Infused Iceberg Lettuce, Cured Meat Crisps on Reclaimed Forest Wood, Spherized Fruit Gel in Foam Nest, and Savory Bacon Love Petals. Tips

• Sims can unlock 4 additional food recipes when entering the energized, playful, flirty, or angry emotions.
• When completing the "Master Chef" aspiration, Sims create high quality food that never spoils.
• When Sims are ready for some of the regular meals (not quick meals) from fridge, they can use the "Cook" (select any serving), "Serve" (party size serving), or "Have" (single serving) options.
• Having high quality ingredients from gardening increases the quality of the food.
• Fresh ingredients from the Sim's inventory will be highlighted green in the recipe panel.
• The cost to prepare food decreases when a Sim uses their own ingredients.
