While not included in the base game, vampires are included in The Sims 3: Late Night expansion pack as well as a theme pack for The Sims 3 iPhone. Before the Late Night expansion is released, using CAS, players can create a Sim with a pale skin, red eyes, and (with custom content) protruding teeth, for a vampire-looking Sim.

Vampires are social creatures of the night. They are inspired by the more popular interpretation of vampires of the late 90s and 2000s as opposed to the more classically-inspired vampires of The Sims 2. Their appearance is comprised of a paler, slightly glowing, layer over their normal skin tone (no set vampire skin tone), fangs and glowing eyes. They also have a small tribal looking tattoo on their necks..

A vampire's hunger motive is replaced with thirst. It works in the same way, but can only be filled by eating Plasma, the Sim-equivalent of blood. Vegetarian vampires are limited to the Plasma Fruit.

To feed from other Sims, the vampire needs to ask permission. A high relationship score helps, or the Master of Seduction Lifetime Reward. Other Sims reply with funny messages. Feeding off of a random Sim or eating a Plasma Fruit at least nice quality gives the vampire a +15 Moodlet, while feeding off of a Sim who is the vampire's prey or eating a perfect Plasma Fruit gives a +50 Moodlet.

All other Motives function like they do for normal Sims. Vampires also still need to sleep (which they prefer doing during the day). Unlike vampires in Nightlife, the Late Night vampires do not necessarily sleep in coffins, but a vampire bed is available which reportedly is "Quite haunting" (see above). They cost 2,500 Simoleons, but vampires can sleep on public ones such as those in the basement of Plasma 501. Vampires can also sleep in normal beds and when doing so, the letter 'V' will appear instead of the normal 'Z'. If the bed is of sufficient quality, the vampire will also recieve the "Slept Like the Dead" moodlet.

Sims near a vampire they do not know will suffer from a "Hunted" moodlet that takes away -10 Mood. Sims who are vampires get a moodlet at night that gives them +15 Mood and accelerated skill building.

Sims can become vampires by befriending with a vampire and then asking them to make them a vampire. Vampires are mostly found at The Plasma 501 , the vampire bar which is located in a huge skyscraper, right in the heart of the town. Sims can come in too but they need to bribe their way in, unless they have the celebrity status of at least 2.

If a vampire wishes to become a normal Sim again, they can go to the science lab, which provides an anti-vampirism potion, it costs 3,000 Simoleons.

The vampires bite in different places, on the the wrist of a friend and on the neck of a lover.

Vampires cannot drink Plasma from ex-vampires, children, ghosts, mummies, pregnant Sims or SimBots.

When a Sim is bitten after the interaction "Ask to Turn" or "Offer to Turn," the Sim will recieve the "Unusual Blemish" moodlet. After about 3 days the Sim will be engulfed in a spiraling cloud of red and black sparkles and become a vampire.

If a Sim who is both a celebrity and a vampire bites someone in public, the Paparazzi will find out and start a scandal about the bite. The Vampire Celebrity will get a new negative moodlet and will have to either go to City Hall and sue to get rid of the moodlet, which is not always successful and could end up making the Sim lose money from legal fees, or to buy off the Paparazzi for 3,000 Simoleons.

Drinking from a Sim will not turn them into a vampire; only if they accept "offer to turn" will it turn them into a vampire. SimBots and Mummies can not be Vampire hybrids.

If a Vampire sleeps in the Cursed Sarcophagus of the Kings 3 times, it will replace one of the Vampire's traits with the Evil trait.

While transforming into a Vampire (with the "Unusual Blemish" Moodlet) the Sim will be unable to travel overseas.

Vampire Children
Unlike vampirism in Nightlife, vampirism in Late Night is genetic, and will be inherited at a 100% rate for vampire couples, and a 50% for Vampire-Sim couples.

These children are vampires from birth and can not be cured until they are young adults. They age at a normal rate until they transition into young adults. Their appearance is that of a young adult vampire, their skin is pale and their eyes glow like that of a full grown vampire.

When they become toddlers, they will learn from toddler toys at a higher rate, but learn talking, walking, and potty training at the regular rate. They will also bite their teddy bears while they play with them.

When they become children, they have the enhanced skill gain, but no other vampire powers. They also eat normal food, can eat garlic, and can spend days outside. They can eat plasma-packs from the fridge at this age as well. They keep this power-set through the teen life-state, and obtain the rest of their powers at the young adult stage.

When a teenager of vampiric parentage grows up into a young adult, the cloud of stars is red instead of multi-coloured.

If a young adult of vampiric parentage cures their vampirism at the Science Station, they retain their extra fast skill gaining ability, but lose all other powers. Other vampires are also unable to drink from these sims.

*Persuade - Vampires can persuade other Sims to perform certain tasks

Vampire Weaknesses
*Thirst - Instead of hunger. If the Madly Thirsty moodlet ticks down to 0, a haunting chord will play in the background, the vampire will hold their throat and eventually disintegrate into ash. Then the ghost appears black with a red pulsating light where the heart would be, and the Grim Reaper appears normally. The Sim will still be a vampire.
*Sunlight - Vampires can go out in the sunlight for a certain amount of time before getting the "Heating Up" moodlet, it will last for 3 hours, then the vampire passes out, then it changes to the "Burning Up" Moodlet. The Sim's Thirst will decrease at a very fast rate until the "Madly Thirsty" Moodlet hits zero and the Vampire perishes. This moodlet will last two days and will remain if the vampire continues to go outside. While in the sun, a sizzling sound is heard and the vampire smokes. There are ways to remove the "Burning Up" moodlet. One of them includes packages from spas like "Wilki's Fabulous Books and Bath".
*Garlic - It can make the vampire sick. Eating garlic or drinks with garlic will give a Vampire the Garlic Breath and nauseous moodlet and will cause them to pass out .
*Sim Food - Vampires can eat Sim food, but it will not satisfy their Thirst moodlet. Eating normal food will cause a Vampire to become nauseous. If a vampire eats normal food made with plasma fruit, such as plasma fruit pancakes, their thirst will fill and they won't become naseous.

Trivia
*It takes 48 hours to become a vampire.
*Vampire eyes don't have a standard color, unlike The Sims 2, they are actually brighter versions of the Sims eyes, for example: a sim with hazel or light brown eyes may get bright golden yellow eyes if turned into a vampire, whilist Sims with blue eyes will get almost silver like bright blue eyes. To get red eyes, set your sim in Create a sim to have red eyes, and turn them.
*Using the "cure" interaction of The Moodlet Manager (if successful) on a Sim who has begun the transformation to Vampire will cause that Sim to instantly become a Vampire.
*Vampires can also bite the Grim Reaper, though it won't turn him into a vampire. In fact, he won't even get the moodlet.
*Every time a Vampire is in the Sun and gets the Heating Up moodlet, a wish will appear for the vampire to enter in the shade. If a promise slot is left open the player can constantly gain lifetime happiness for that particular wish after the moodlet is gained.
* In The Sims 2: Nightlife, Vampires had no mirror image. In Late Night, Vampires reflect normally in mirrors, though the vampires in The Sims 2: Nightlife are inspired by classic folklore, one of which is a story about vampires not being able to reflect onto mirrors.
* NPC Vampires can be found in neighborhoods other than Bridgeport.
*Pre-made Vampires in Bridgeport all have black hair with dark red highlights. However, there are two exceptions, the Hemlock family and Flo-Flo Chique.
*Adult Vampires also move in "Speed 5" when they play tag with children.
*Most pre-made vampires tend to prefer Black over other colors, this eludes to them having more Goth preferences, though there are some exceptions.
*The aura around a Vampire's head when they read minds looks similar to an aura used in another EA game, Ghost Master. In that game, it appears around a ghost's head when it uses an ability to draw mortals closer to it.
*Vampire ghosts can turn living Sims into vampires
*Vampires won't get the Creepy Graveyard moodlet when visiting a graveyard.

Vampires are a new game mechanic added to The Sims 2: Nightlife, which introduces vampires as both playable and non-playable creatures into The Sims 2 series. Vampires were also introduced into The Sims 3 series in The Sims 3: Late Night expansion pack.

The Sims

A Sim "vampiress" and "vampire"

Vampires do not really play a role in The Sims, not even in Makin' Magic. The only character who is presumed to be an actual vampire is Vicki Vampiress, an NPC who operates the "All Things Draconic" cart in Magic Town.

Sims cannot become vampires, but a magical adult Sim who successfully uses the "Beauty or Beast" charm can temporarily take on the appearance of a vampire. This is purely cosmetic, and the Sim remains a normal Sim in all respects.

The Urbz: Sims in the City (handheld)

Vampires are one of the story elements in The Urbz: Sims in the City for GBA and DS. After the player's Urb washes up at the Bayou, Crawdad Clem and Bayou Boo suspect that they are a vampire, and the player must answer questions to prove that they aren't. Later, when the player's Urb has to go in the Dark Tree, a Grand Vampire appears, but the player scares them off with a glowing rod. When Bayou Boo shows the player's Urb the secret passage to return back to Miniopolis, he gets captured on the way. He later appears in Mission 5, where it is revealed that he has been turned into a vampire and is chained up in the secret passage. The player then must pick the lock of the chain and speak to Mambo Loa about vampirism. She tells the player that the cure for vampirism is a heavy chocolate dish. The player then makes a Chocolate Bunny, and feeds it to Bayou Boo, which cures his vampirism.

The Sims 2

Sim being bitten by vampire.

Becoming a Vampire

  • Vampirism is introduced with Nightlife.
  • Vampirism is transferred via the bite neck interaction.
  • If a Sim is bitten by the Grand Vampire or a pre-bitten Sim, he or she joins the world of the undead as well. Initially. Sims are bitten only if they have a high relationship with a Grand Vampire; however, once one Sim is bitten by a Grand Vampire, any Sim that comes into contact with any Grand Vampire has a risk of being bitten, whether or not they are a playable Sim and regardless of the relationship with the Grand Vampire. Non-Grand Vampire Sims still require a high relationship in order to successfully bite another Sim. Other Sims can also Influence a vampire to bite another Sim, though it will likely only be successful if it is a Grand Vampire that is influenced to do so.
A Sim being hypnotized by a vampire
  • Grand Vampires appear downtown at night. Their names are preceded by either the Count or Contessa title depending on the gender. They are easily distinguishable from the crowd by their pale- to gray-tinted skin, period clothing, and unmistakable 'bleh'. They also have their arms covering their fangs, and will often be sneakily stalking around. Mods can be found to make vampires look like normal Sims, (ie. without the Grey skin, red eyes, etc) but they will lose their fangs. The mods can be found at www.modthesims.info .
  • Vampires can only use the interaction "Bite Neck" to change other Sims into vampires, and it will not kill the Sim. However, there are mods to add new interactions such as "Deadly Neck Bite" (this kills the Sim), "Embrace" (this is just the "Bite Neck" interaction-it changes Sims into vampires), "Bite Neck" (this satisfies the vampire's hunger without killing the Sim), and "Turn Into Ghoul" (this makes the affected Sim very influenceable. Influencing them will not take anything off a Sim's Influence meter, but Sims need Influence points to affect the Ghoul). You can find these mods on www.modthesims.info .

Features

  • When a Sim turns into a vampire they receive the characteristics of sharp teeth, red eyes and pale skin. Aliens and Evil-aligned Witches turn turquoise, while Zombies turn dark blue. Servos also can become vampires, with a red eye, fangs and a small bat shaped tattoo on their head.
  • When a vampire is dressed in everyday, they are adorned in a Victorian-aged suit and cloak. They walk to their destinations with their forearm covering their face, with the cloak draped over their arm, catering to the traditional interpretation. However, when a vampire is not clothed in everyday, they still walk with their arm covering their features. The cloak is no longer there, but merely their arm is covering their face. Some attribute this to be an EA glitch.
  • Once bitten, the newly created vampire can bite other Sims, provided they have a high enough relation with the target Sim.
  • Vampires can transform into bats and fly around, which allows them to fly over low obstacles such as kitchen counters and is a fast alternative to walking for Sims too lazy to run. Vampires can also "stalk" from place to place.
    A bat
  • Vampire Sims gain the Irritate > Bleh! interaction which lowers the Bladder need of target non-vampire Sim and can be used regardless of relationship.
  • Teenage Vampires can get a scholarship to go to college.
  • Vampires will sizzle and smoke while exposed to the daylight, and their motives drop very quickly, eventually leading to the vampire's demise. Motives will also slowly decay indoors, or more quickly if they're near a window. A vampire Sim must sleep in his/her coffin or meditate during the day to prevent their needs from dropping.
    • For this reason, vampires are contactable at night, but cannot be contacted during the day without drama.
A maid sneaking on a vampire coffin.
  • The motives of a vampire Sim do not decay at all during the night. This is meant to give them plenty of opportunity to party Downtown all night. They still lose needs when doing some activities.
  • Another additional feature is that vampire Sims are immortal and will never grow older than the day they were bitten, with the exception of the transition from Teen to Young Adult to Adult.
  • Even if Hunger reaches 0, vampires will not die of starvation.
  • Vampires have no reflection in a mirror. If one is used, the vampire will react and their comfort bar will drop. Disturbingly, while vampires are invisible in mirrors, their wedding rings are not.
  • Occasionally vampires will hiss or "bleh" if no other action is currently underway.
  • Vampires can also become werewolves. When they become one, they will look like vampires in the day and werewolves with fur at night. They can bite and savage as well as fly and stalk.
  • Vampires can also become PlantSims which changes their skin color from blue to green. This does NOT cancel out their weakness to sunlight, and even in a coffin, the sunlight need will still go down. Installing sun lamps over the coffin will replenish the need, however.
  • Sometimes if a vampire is doing no action, they will tend to try to bite another Sim in the family which it has a good relation with. This may sometimes be annoying if you only want one vampire in the family.
  • There is a glitch in which sometimes the fangs are not inside the vampire's mouth. Instead, they will be hovering over its head blinking red and blue.
  • In The Sims 2, Vampirism is not genetic. Vampires can reproduce, but will have normal-Sim children.
    • Technically, the vampire skin is a whole-body tattoo. For the purposes of chemistry, vampires are considered to have full face make-up, as well as vampirism.

Curing Vampirism

If at any time the Sim grows tired of the vampire life, Vampirism can be cured with Vamprocillin-D which is bought from the Gypsy Matchmaker. Vamprocillin-D can also be made by witches. Other Sims can Influence vampire Sims to drink Vamprocillin-D, provided they have the potion in their inventory (this could be accomplished by giving it to them as a gift). Once cured, the Sim will be returned to normal; they will be able to go out in the day but will lose all the perks of being a creature of the night.

Wanting and Fearing Vampirism

Sims will not necessarily have wants or fears related to vampirism, but if they do, all Sims except Knowledge and Pleasure Sims will fear it. Knowledge Sims will want it, and once bitten will fear curing it.

Controlling/avoiding Vampirism

Vampires will not bite autonomously until a playable Sim has been turned into one. Since that requires some positive action on the part of the player, whether or not to have vampires (other than the Grand Vampires) is effectively a matter of player's choice.

Jfade has a set of mods which can be used to control vampires' biting. One keeps vampires from biting NPCs. This can be useful, as once Grand Vampires start biting autonomously, they may attempt to bite Mrs. Crumplebottom, which can lead to game corruption. Another only allows them to bite on residential lots, while the third disables biting altogether.

This section describes features that are only available in The Sims 3: Late Night.

While not included in the base game, vampires are included in The Sims 3: Late Night expansion pack as well as a theme pack for The Sims 3 iPhone. Before the Late Night expansion was released, using CAS, players could create a Sim with a pale skin, red eyes, and (with Custom Content) protruding teeth, for a vampire-looking Sim.

A vampire feeding from the wrist of a Sim.

Vampires are social creatures of the night. They are inspired by the more popular interpretation of vampires of the late 90s and 2000s as opposed to the more classically-inspired vampires of The Sims 2[1]. They have certain powers which sets them aside from normal Sims, but they also have certain disadvantages. Vampires are not immortal, unlike The Sims 2, though they tend to live longer than normal Sims (about 100 days for a young adult on the normal setting)[2]

Their appearance is comprised of a paler, slightly glowing, layer over their normal skin tone (no set vampire skin tone), fangs and glowing eyes. They also have a small tribal looking tattoo on their necks.[3].

A vampire's hunger motive is replaced with thirst. It works in the same way, but can only be filled by eating Plasma, the Sim-equivalent of blood. Plasma comes from feeding on Sims, the Plasma Fruit or Plasma packs[4]. In order to feed from a Sim, the vampire must ask permission and generally have good relations with the Sim[5]. A desperate vampire can even go to the local Hospital or nearest shopping center and choose to raid and receive Plasma but should watch out as they might get caught[6]. Vegetarian vampires are limited to the Plasma Fruit[6].

To feed from other Sims, the vampire needs to ask permission. A high relationship score helps, or the Master of Seduction Lifetime Reward. Other Sims reply with funny messages[2].

Unlike vampires in Nightlife, the Late Night vampires do not necessarily sleep in coffins, but a vampire bed is available which reportedly is "Quite haunting" (see above)[5].They cost 2,500 Simoleons, but vampires can sleep on public ones such as those in the basement of Plasma 501. Sims can become vampires by befriending with a vampire and then asking them to make them a vampire[4]. If a Sim asks a vampire to bite them before they become friends, the vampire will refuse. It will take two to three days until a Sim becomes a vampire[7].

Vampires are mostly found at The Plasma 501 [8], the vampire bar which is located in a huge skyscraper, right in the heart of the town. Sims can come in too but they need to bribe their way in, unless they have the celebrity status of at least 2[6].

If a vampire wishes to become a normal Sim again, they can go to the science lab, which provides an anti-vampirism potion, it costs 3,000 Simoleons.[6]

The vampires bite in different places, on the the wrist of a friend and on the neck of a lover.

Vampires cannot drink Plasma from ex-vampires, children, ghosts, mummies, pregnant Sims or SimBots.[1]

When a Sim is bitten after the interaction "Ask to Turn" or "Offer to Turn," the Sim will recieve the "Unusual Blemish" moodlet. After about 3 days the Sim will be engulfed in a spiraling cloud of red and black sparkles and become a vampire.

Vampire Powers

  • Enhanced motives [9]
  • Hunt - Gives Sims a thermal aura around them[10] which reveals which Sim has the best plasma[9]. This also gives them a tag in the map view[3]. When a Vampire has a target, they will get a wish to drink from that Sim.
    Vampire Hunting
  • Make Sim think of you - Makes a target Sim think of the vampire[10], which makes them like him/her more[3]. This is also greyed out for a certain amount of time after used.
  • Read mind - Reveals a trait of target Sim,[10][9] their career, star sign, relationship status, or favorites[2]. This is also greyed out for a certain amount of time after used.
  • Super speed and endurance - Can dash from one point to another in few seconds with little effort[8]. Vampires move at "Speed 5"[2], at this speed a motion blur can be seen around the Vampire.
  • Super strength - While working out, vampires will not get fatigued and can break space rocks with ease.
  • Learn skills faster - Vampires can learn skills faster, but only at night. If a Vampire gets the Speedy Learner Lifetime reward, however, it does not make this accelerated skill gain any faster during night time, it only aids during the day.[6]
  • Persuade - Vampires can persuade other Sims to perform certain tasks[2]

Vampire Weaknesses

  • Thirst - Instead of hunger[4].
  • Sunlight - Vampires can go out in the sunlight for a certain amount of time before getting the "Heating Up" moodlet, it will last for 3 hours, then the vampire passes out, then it changes to the "Burning Up" Moodlet. One of them includes packages from spas like "Wilki's Fabulous Books and Bath".[3][6]
  • Garlic - It can make the vampire sick[2]. Eating garlic or drinks with garlic will give a Vampire the Garlic Breath and nauseous moodlet and will cause them to pass out [2].
  • Sim Food - Vampires can eat Sim food, but it will not satisfy their Thirst moodlet.[3] Eating normal food will cause a Vampire to become nauseous. If a vampire eats normal food made with plasma fruit, such as plasma fruit pancakes, their thirst will fill and they won't become naseous.

Trivia

  • It takes 48 hours to become a vampire.
  • Vampire eyes don't have a standard color, unlike The Sims 2, they are actually brighter versions of the Sims eyes, for example: a sim with hazel or light brown eyes may get bright golden yellow eyes if turned into a vampire, whilist Sims with blue eyes will get almost silver like bright blue eyes. To get red eyes, set your sim in Create a sim to have red eyes, and turn them.
  • Using the "cure" interaction of The Moodlet Manager (if successful) on a Sim who has begun the transformation to Vampire will cause that Sim to instantly become a Vampire.[4]
  • Vampires can also bite the Grim Reaper, though it won't turn him into a vampire. In fact, he won't even get the moodlet.
  • Every time a Vampire is in the Sun and gets the Heating Up moodlet, a wish will appear for the vampire to enter in the shade. If a promise slot is left open the player can constantly gain lifetime happiness for that particular wish after the moodlet is gained.
  • In The Sims 2: Nightlife, Vampires had no mirror image. In Late Night, Vampires reflect normally in mirrors, though the vampires in The Sims 2: Nightlife are inspired by classic folklore, one of which is a story about vampires not being able to reflect onto mirrors.
  • NPC Vampires can be found in neighborhoods other than Bridgeport.
  • Pre-made Vampires in Bridgeport all have black hair with dark red highlights. However, there are two exceptions, the Hemlock family and Flo-Flo Chique.
  • Adult Vampires also move in "Speed 5" when they play tag with children.
  • Most pre-made vampires tend to prefer Black over other colors, this eludes to them having more Goth preferences, though there are some exceptions.
  • The aura around a Vampire's head when they read minds looks similar to an aura used in another EA game, Ghost Master. In that game, it appears around a ghost's head when it uses an ability to draw mortals closer to it.
  • Vampire ghosts can turn living Sims into vampires
  • Vampires won't get the Creepy Graveyard moodlet when visiting a graveyard.

Vampires in The Sims 3 look relatively normal. Players can pick them out in a crowd usually by their bright eyes or possibly by the spiky tattoo on their neck which Sims receive after becoming vampires though it is possible that this tattoo could also be selected in the sim creator,[confirmation needed] so be wary of user-created sims. A regular Sim, unless they are brave, will get the Hunted moodlet whenever a vampire who they are not friends with is around.

Once a Sim has met a vampire, they will show up in their relationships with a red box around their pictures. The player's Sim can "Ask to Turn" the vampire, in which they will hold out their arm and the vampire will bite them. If they have a high or romantic relationship with the vampire they will bite them on the neck instead. If a playable Sim is a vampire, then the player can offer to turn any Sim, but if the Sim refuses the human Sim will get the "Freaked Out" moodlet. If there are too many other Sims around, or if the player's Sim doesn't have a high enough relationship level with the vampire, they may be rejected from receiving "the gift."

After the bite they will have a moodlet describing a mosquito or spider bite. They will then turn into a vampire after 2 days. Although vampires can travel, if a Sim who is becoming a vampire tries to travel it says they tried to board a plane, but the flight attendant noticed the blemish and called security.

Vampirism can be cured by buying a cure from the science laboratory which costs 3000 Simoleons. After being cured, the vampire will lose its vampire form and its vampire powers and become a normal Sim.
