Pleasantview
|
Pleasantview is one of the three pre-made neighborhoods that ships with The Sims 2. In theory, it is the neighborhood from the original The Sims game 25 years later. It is also mentioned that Gunther Goth founded Pleasantview, then known as Sunset Valley.
There are a total of 23 lots in Pleasantview, and there are another 11 houses in the Lots and Houses Bin. Out of these 23 houses, there are at least three mansions. Three homes are trailers, and may or may not be part of a trailer park. (The game does not treat them as part of a trailer park, but players can.) Several more houses make up a series of condos. Finally, one house is an old shack in the woods. The houses in the housing bin can add further variety, offering a hacienda, a tudor, a bungalow, and even a farmhouse. Furthermore, there are six pre-made families already living in the neighborhood, and two more in the Family Bin. For the families that start out moved-in, the median amount of family funds is around 1000 simoleons. Even a family with no significant income will generally have enough to pay one or two rounds of bills.
It is likely that the name "Pleasantview" refers to the town called Pleasantville in the 1998 film Pleasantville. The towns' names are very similar, and two of the pre-made Sims in Pleasantview are named Mary-Sue and Jennifer; while in the movie, one of the main characters is named Jennifer, possibly associated with Jennifer Burb, and she took the name "Mary Sue" after being transported to Pleasantville. Also, some of the other pre-made Sims in the Pleasantview storyline are named Skip, Don, and Betty, which are some of the other main characters in the movie, though it's possible that both the game and the movie use these names because they are rather common names or nicknames. Pleasantview could also refer to a city in California called Pleasanton due to the water, which could be the Sacramento River.
Pleasantview has many different districts and areas. When placing the water at the bottom of the screen, and viewing it as the water being the South, then: On the upper-left corner, there are some trailers. (The area is often interpreted as being a trailer park, but that's not necessarily the case.) Above the trailers is a wooded area with an isolated shack. In the upper-right corner, there is an area mostly made up of condos, and often called "The Condo Area" or "The Condo District". Around the western Main Street Area is the main commercial area, where the pre-made community lots can be found. Central and eastern Pleasantview contain large suburban houses. The only large house in western Pleasantview is the Pleasants' home. The south, by the water, is Wright Way, which contains the very large and fancy neighborhood (made up of only two unoccupied houses), though some include the Goths and Pleasants in this area.
It is believed that Pleasantview is the town in The Sims as they share streets with the same name, (another theory is that Pleasantview is off to the side, making the streets a continuation of the original) and was possibly Sunset Valley in The Sims 3.

The Sims 2
Families
- Broke family: Brandi, and her children Dustin, Beau, and her unborn son make up the Broke household. She is the daughter of Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie. She's trying to take care of her children on her own after her husband's death. The oldest boy, Dustin, is a troubled teen, doing badly in school, and is in the Criminal career as a Street Hawker. He is dating Angela Pleasant and wants that first kiss. At the start of the game, Dustin and Angela are going steady. Beau has not leaned any of his toddler skills..
- Burb family: John and Jennifer, and their daughter Lucy moved from the city into "quiet, peaceful" Pleasantview. John is the son of Brad Burb and Tiffany Burb. John wants more kids but Jennifer wants to focus on work. They are also the only family with no problems or disasters, past or present.
- Caliente family: Fraternal twin sisters Dina and Nina. They moved into town the day before Bella disappeared, and many rumors say they caused her disappearance. Dina Caliente is dating Mortimer Goth, but only for the money. Both sisters are involved with Don Lothario, and Nina is in love with him, but neither one knows that he's dating the other, much less that he's also dating his maid Kaylynn Langerak, and is engaged to Cassandra Goth. They are one of the newcomers stirring up trouble.
- Dreamer family: Darren and his son Dirk. Darren Dreamer is raising Dirk on his own ever since his wife, Darleen, died. Darren is secretly in love with Cassandra Goth, but she's engaged to Don Lothario and only likes him as a friend. He wants to be a painter, but he isn't doing so well and bills are piling up. Dirk is dating Lilith Pleasant.
- 3 Goth family: Mortimer, his daughter Cassandra and son Alexander are trying to recover from Bella's disappearance. Mortimer is dating Dina Caliente, but she only wants his money. Cassandra is engaged to Don Lothario and is eager to start a family, but Don only wants her father's money.
- Lothario family: Don, the local womanizer, is going around trying to date as many girls as he can find. At the moment, he has at least 4 girlfriends: Dina, Nina, Kaylynn, Cassandra, and possibly Bella (Bella would be the 5th). Judging by his bio, he may be one of the newcomers stirring up trouble.
- Oldie family : Herb and Coral. Not much is known about their past, other than that they adopted Mary-Sue as a toddler and have been married for at least 48 years.
- Pleasant family : Daniel Pleasant and Mary-Sue, and their twin daughters Angela and Lilith. Daniel is having an affair with the maid Kaylynn without Mary-Sue, his workaholic wife, knowing. Meanwhile, Angela and Lilith are always fighting and can't seem to get along with each other.
The Burbs and Oldies can initially be found in the family bin.
