Gym is type of lot in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. It is also a lot assignment in The Sims 3.

As a lot assignment pools provide the Fit Atmosphere moodlet
This moodlet would provide a boost to Athletic skill building, but it is badly programmed meaning it actually penalises Sims on the lot, and they gain Athletic skill much slower than outside of gyms. It is recommended not to use a gym for skilling up.
