A hotel is a hybrid of a community lot and residential lot that can only be found in vacation neighborhoods in The Sims: Vacation and The Sims 2 Bon Voyage.

The Sims Vacation

Hotels were first introduced in The Sims: Vacation in Vacation Island. Each area of Vacation Island has one hotel available, while the other two lots will be campgrounds and a bare bones lot. Hotels can be modified in build mode and buy mode when no Sims are on vacation in it. The three hotels available per area are Al Pine's Winter Wonderland in the snowy mountain area, Bear Essentials Lodge in the forested area, and Palazzo Palms Hotel in the beach area.

Reserving Rooms & Checking In

To check in a hotel, click on the desk found on the entrance of the hotel. Rooms cannot be reserved, though Sims have access to all rooms in the hotel. Unlike later games, other tourists will never check in and sleep at a hotel, so Sims will have the entire hotel to themselves. Sims can check out by clicking on the front desk at any time.

NPCs

Hotels will spawn a maid in addition to a janitor, the former of which will clean up any indoor areas of the lot, and the latter of which will only tend to the outdoors.

Activities

Activities in hotels differ in each area, somewhat staying similar. In the Winter area, Sims can have snowball fights, go on snow slides, and erect snowmen. In the Forest area, Sims can fish, have water balloon fights, and can try their hand at archery. While at the Beach area, the hotel contains a large swimming pool with slides, and it also contains special games that Sims can win prizes through. It's also found in other lots in all three areas.

The Sims 2: Bon Voyage

Hotels were included in The Sims 2: Bon Voyage and appear in all three vacation destinations included (Takemizu Village, Three Lakes, and Twikkii Island). It gives controllable Sims a place to rest and rejuvenate before going off to explore. Each exotic destination has its own premade hotels, although the player is allowed to make their own or edit the existing ones. Sims must check in to a hotel or campground in order to save on vacation and to visit other vacation lots.

NPCs

All hotels, with the exception of campgrounds, will spawn a bellhop and a housekeeper. The bellhop tends to the front desk and generally will only leave it to deliver room service. They otherwise cannot be interacted with. Housekeepers will clean the lot, repair broken objects, and tend to garden plants. Sims can converse and build relationships with them. Unlike The Sims: Vacation, housekeepers do not remain on the lot 24/7, and they will leave the lot at 8 p.m., and will not return until 10 a.m. the next morning. If the housekeeper has nothing to do, they will idle by the front desk.

It should be noted that housekeepers are generally buggy and may not correctly do all of their jobs. A mod by SimWardrobe has been made to make them more efficient.

Choosing a Hotel

Hotel prices range from § to §§§§§. The Campgrounds in Three Lakes are free. Sims may visit any hotel before and after checking in, and may even switch hotels during a vacation.

Reserving Rooms & Checking In

To reserve a room, click on the door to the suite. It will display the price for one night. Sims can reserve as many rooms as they like. When finished, click on the front desk to check in. Any rooms that have not been reserved will eventually be claimed by other tourists.

In Axe Wood Campgrounds, just click on any tent and click "check in". Sims can then sleep in any tent on the lot.

Room Service

If the hotel does not have a food stand or restaurant, Sims will have to order room service. This can be done over the phone. Depending on the size of the party it may be cheaper to order single plates, but group meals can also be ordered, the price of which is added to the hotel bill. Once an order is placed, the bellhop will arrive shortly at the suite of the Sim who requested it and deliver the meal. The menu is dependent on the time of day.

Checking Out

Players may check out and pay the bill by clicking on the front desk of the hotel. If the Sim doesn't have enough funds, the bill will be received in the mail when the Sim gets home. Sims can check out any time before noon without being billed for another night. The player can check the total bill using the phone, or by clicking on the front desk.

In the beginning of Vince's Story, If you click on the goal icon The Hotel is mentioned, Vince mentioned that he went to a 5 Star Hotel in SimCity so it may be a reference to The Sims 2 Bon Voyage (as The Sims 2 Bon Voyage is released after The Sims Life Stories).
