The Sims 3 allows teens, young adults, adults and elders to take a part-time job in such positions as Bookstore Clerk, Grocery Store Clerk, Spa Receptionist, Spa Specialist, and Mausoleum Clerk. This is useful for Sims attending School as it does not interfere with their school schedule. Older Sims can take part-time jobs too, though. They pay less per hour, but have fewer hours overall, thus not being as time-consuming as a full-time job.
