Desiderata Valley

Main article: Desiderata Valley

Desiderata Valley is the new neighborhood shipped with The Sims 2: FreeTime. It mainly focuses on the residents' leisure activities and pastimes. All families are at moderate economic status; not too rich and not too poor. There are a number of community lots where Sims can do many activities, such as gallery, sport park, community kitchen, and so on.

New Features

Lifetime Aspiration[2]

Main article: Lifetime Aspiration

Sims now have a new bar between the daily aspiration bar and the Influence bar, the Lifetime Aspiration bar. This bar indicates how happy a Sim has been living throughout their life. Its accumulation depend on the daily aspiration bar. The longer the daily aspiration bar is kept high, the faster the lifetime aspiration bar accumulates. Sims who reach the maximum Lifetime Aspiration will be rewarded Perma-platinum mood.

Lifetime Aspiration Benefit

The higher the lifetime aspiration bar a Sim has, the more aspiration benefits he/she can spend. Sims who spend their aspiration benefit will be given special personal abilities and advantages. For example, slower needs decay, faster making friends, smooth talking, higher salary, etc.

Secondary Aspiration

The secondary aspiration unlocks Sims' possibilities for new wants and fears that are beyond their primary aspiration. Sims can choose their secondary aspiration from their Aspiration Benefit.

Hobby Enthusiasm

The new simology includes hobby enthusiasm for each Sim. Sims who do activities in certain hobby will build enthusiasm that makes them more keen on their hobbies. There are 10 types of hobbies: Cuisine, Film and Literature, Games, Tinkering, Science, Arts and Crafts, Fitness, Nature, Sports, Music and Dance. Each Sim has a predestined hobby. Sims will build enthusiasm faster on the hobby they are predestined.

Best Friends Forever[2]

BFF is a new friendship level. A Sim who is best friends long enough will develop BFF. A BFF will have a slower daily relationship decay, and will never fall out of friends, even though they are furious with each others. BFFs also have benefits, such as far away greet and inside jokes interaction.

NPC Aging

Sims who have townie friends no longer remain the same age forever. Whenever Sim grows up, they can choose 3 of any townies they know to grow up together. With this feature, childhood friends can grow older, and teen girlfriend can be married when they're old enough.

Contest

Sims who have built enough enthusiasm will be eager to compete on competitions. This new feature allows Sims to do group activities to participate in cooking contest, dance contest, and gaming contest.

Genie

Main article: Genie

The new life state introduced in the Expansion Pack is Genie. Genie can grant 3 wishes to Sims who wish. Sims cannot become a Genie, nor a Genie is playable. A family whose members have high enthusiasms will have higher chance to be delivered a Genie lamp by Gypsy Matchmaker.

Features

  • Once Sims build up their skills, they can sell their arts and crafts or enter them into competitions for dance, food, and video game contests.
  • There will be a new Lifetime Aspiration bar, which fills when a major goal in a Sim's life is fulfilled (e.g., marriage). Goals depend on the Sim's aspiration. Points earned from these goals can be spent on benefits, such as the ability to not get fired, slower motive decay, and even the ability to have a secondary aspiration. Some benefits also depend on the Sim's aspiration.
  • New group activities let Sims spend time with family and friends. There are new special activities for kids and toddlers.
  • Hobbies can have unexpected moments, especially for Sims with low skill levels. Beginner Sims might sew a bear with one eye, make a lopsided jar on the pottery wheel, or even get poison ivy while hiking.
  • The new life state (and creature NPC) is a genie, however, it isn't selectable. It is delivered in a lamp by a gypsy, which randomly appears, and grants three wishes to its 'master'.
  • Sims will now be able to become 'BFFs' with any Sim. The option to tell an 'inside joke' will become available under Entertain if they're BFFs with someone.
  • If a Sim becomes good friends with a townie, when they grow up the player can have the townie grow up as well. This option only allows up to 3 townies to age simultaneously.
  • FreeTime adds two new talent badges - Pottery and Sewing. However, these and the Open for Business badges were glitched, making gaining new levels very hard.
  • Two pre-made, fully furnished houses are included in the Lots and Houses bin (Players with Nightlife or a download which allows cars without Nightlife should note that one, the "Bohemian Bungalow," does not have room for a driveway).

Additionally, there is an NPC named Mr. Humble that will show up for every family. He drops off a gift which happens to be a new computer with a preview of The Sims 3, which was in development when FreeTime was released (The Sims 3 was released in June of 2009).
